  1. I'm sure Mehrunes Dagon is very displeased with this decision, but it made me happy. I missed the old one.

And for me too. Hadn't had a single "error opening the page" or "error 500...".

Perhaps that's because a considerable amount of members have already begun using the old one at www2.loverslab.com?

Microsoft's Windows 10 operating system may uninstall programs -- desktop programs that is -- from the computer after installation of the big Fall update that the company released earlier this month.

According to reports on the Internet, Speccy is not the only program affected by this. Others report that programs like CPU-Z, AMD Catalyst Control Center or CPUID were removed as well during the upgrade.

You should get the Windows 10 "operating system", if you want Microsoft (and possibly others) to "operate your system". Simple as that.

The former of which is defeating the purpose of a "game"

A game, or certain things in it, may be fun for the reviewer, but what is fun is subjective. One can hate the thing you thought enjoyable. Therefore a rating should not be based on the amount of fun one had with a game. This is precisely what I said.

and the latter of which is blatantly false.

No, it's not. One can immediately form an objective opinion about, let's say, whether or not a graphics card is faster than the other, without needing to see some benchmark results. Would you go and tell that he was wrong and it was a "subjective" opinion, even though everybody else agreed that the card seemed faster? I can give you more examples like this, but you seem to stuck on the "personal belief" part of the dictionary definition of opinion. Think about why you go to a doctor and ask his "opinion" about your illness, instead of asking a random person.

  4. Not sure how to ask about this problem I'm having, but my female character is unable to equip any piece of armor/clothing that uses the slot 52 (the schlong slot). All body armors in the game that normally occupy only the slot 32, now occupy the slot 52 as well. I think it's this mod's doing, but shouldn't that affect only male characters that have a schlong? In any case, is there any way to prevent this?

  5. @zippy57, DocClox: I'm not going to answer in detail as the thread will soon be gone, all I'm going to say is this; you can tell whether or not a review is biased or unfair by comparing the opinion presented in it with factual information, therefore a review is only fair and convincing when it's objective. I'm not sure why we are arguing about this, I thought it was pretty obvious.

Ask a hundred different people what makes a movie or a game better quality and you'll get 100 different answers. What makes something "better" in a qualitative assessment is entirely subjective.

If you ask people "what is better", they will tell you "what they like" instead, which is subjective, of course. That's the reason why we need to refer to professional reviewers with informed and objective reviews, instead of asking a random person. If those people review things like a random person with subjective views on the product, their opinion is not worthier than anyone else's.

I'd say music is one of the most subjective things to review, yet you can read lengthy pieces about albums analyzing them in detail, comparing them to other stuff from the artist or to others. Perfectly objective reviews, even though I don't like the artist at all.

If it is your opinion, it is subjective. It doesn't matter how informed your opinion is, it remains your opinion, and that makes it subjective.

No. An opinion can be perfectly objective (i.e. based on real facts and not influenced by personal beliefs or feelings).

You'd better inform Merriam-Webster. They didn't get the memo, since they still define "review" as "a report that gives someone's opinion about the quality of a book, performance, product, etc."

There's a difference between "just an opinion" and an informed opinion supported with facts. Otherwise, "This game is shit! 1/10" would be a review.

"Eight player co-op is better than two player co-op" is a subjective statement.

No, it isn't, if you can explain why it is better.

    1 hour ago, zippy57 said:

An objective version would be "this game supports eight player co-op, which is six more than two." Which doesn't tell you a darn thing. Does it even still work right? Did those extra six players come at the cost of a lower framerate? Can I still see the screen with eight players stuck on it? Does having eight players completely screw up game balance?

You say that a review is subjective, yet you ask for the "facts" about that feature. All of these questions need be answered in a review if you're going to call something an improvement.

    1 hour ago, zippy57 said:

You can only determine whether something is objectively better than something else in a purely quantitative comparison.

Not really. Being informed about what makes a better quality product allows you to determine which one is better. Purely quantitative comparison may not even tell you which one is better. A product made of cheap plastic vs higher quality plastic for instance, a handmade violin made by a master or a cheap one, or a tomato that tastes like a tomato etc.

    1 hour ago, zippy57 said:

In the case of a video game, or a movie, or whatever where there are other aspects than just numbers, it is impossible to be objective and actually convey anything of note. You want a review based entirely on facts with no subjectivity whatsoever? Here you go.

No, it is perfectly possible to be objective in a review, if you support your opinions with facts. You can compare books based on the complexity and depth of the story, characters and so on quite objectively, same with movies.

    1 hour ago, zippy57 said:

But you need a professional to tell you eight is greater than two?

    No.

Would you buy a product based on a "review" like this? "I really enjoy using it. It works great! 5/5". Or would you rather read a more detailed one telling you about the capabilities and limitations (i.e. facts) about it?

I disagree. If I read a film review, I want to know if I'll have fun watching the film. Over time I get to know which reviewers are close enough to my tastes that I can trust their opinion and which ones like different sorts of films to me.

For my money, that's how it should be in a games review. I want to know if the reviewer had a good time. I want their honest opinion. They may choose to analyse the literary roots of the work, put it into perspective against the earlier offerings in the series, or just talk about how big the boobs are on the female characters - I don't care. At the end of the day I want to know if they played 20 hours solid and wanted to play more, or if they played for an hour and were bored silly the entire time. I don't care if it's subjective, as long as it's an honest opinion.

Honest opinions of others having similar tastes may be useful when all you care about is whether or not you'll be having fun with a game or movie, but then you don't need professionals to tell you that.

Everything in a review is subjective. The only objective things about a game are its name and platform. Even whether or not something is a "significant improvement" is entirely subjective. And  how is a review supposed to compare gameplay from one game to another if they're not allowed to judge whether or not that gameplay is any good? Whether or not a game is fun to play or frustratingly difficult to play is pretty darn important.

A review is an analysis of a product based on facts, when it's all subjective, it's not a review but just an opinion. There are many things in a game that can be assessed objectively by their capabilities and limitations, I'm sure you already know that. A "significant improvement" is only significant when it's real and undeniable, whether or not that improvement has any importance for you is irrelevant. To give you an example, if a previous game only had two player co-op mode and this new game has eight, that's a significant improvement. Gameplay consists of many different elements and as I said, all of them can be compared based on facts, rather than personal opinions. I'm not saying that a review should be completely devoid of any subjectivity, nothing wrong with writing about things you enjoyed, or found difficult, what I'm saying is that you should not rate a game based on the amount of fun you had with it. What is fun and enjoyable differs from person to person and people enjoy playing games for completely different reasons.

  9. Whether or not a game is fun to play should not be a factor when rating/reviewing a game, especially in professional reviews, as that is very subjective. Same is true for books and movies. Millions of teenage kids might rate a Disney movie 10/10 because they enjoyed it immensely, but that doesn't make it a masterpiece of a movie. Neither does its sales figures, as you can imagine.

Professional reviewers should put a game into a perspective instead, by taking into account all contemporary and previously created games, not just in a specific genre, but in all the others as well, and discuss whether or not this game has any significant improvements over those in terms of features, gameplay and technology. "It's an enjoyable game" is not a *professional* opinion.

  10. Could not post anything for a day due to a non existing Javascript library file and then kept getting 500 the whole day today and now everything is painfully slow.

Could someone create some sort of an emergency assembly point please, so we can stay in touch and learn about what's going on with the site while it's inaccessible? Preferably on Reddit. Or direct me to an existing one if there is.

That's the one by Froki's shack in the Rift, I think he lives there with his son.

Correct, but the kid is Froki's grandson. I think he's the kid you run into (Hamming) while trying to escape Helgen in the vanilla start, but I may be wrong.

I don't recall that place in your screenshot. Probably, some place that I haven't visited for a long time.

By the way, which mod(s) are you using for your "submissive" playthrough?

  12. Of course they don't care. They can easily sell millions of copies of games with less and less features each time, with the same engine, with no innovations. Just hype it nicely and sell it to millions who don't even have any expectations from games, aside from better graphics and a new crappy story.

  13. Whenever you hear a voice inside your head telling you to upgrade to the latest version in order to solve the problems you are having, just ignore it. That never works. You'll almost always get new problems that you're not yet familiar with, in addition to the old ones.

  14. I think I vaguely remember that place. Is it somewhere between the Bloodlet Throne, Fort Neugard and Southfringe Sanctum? Or somewhere close. That map icon to the North should be Fort Neugard. (Edit: Looks like I was correct, Googled it to double check. You should've looked away from that book. :D)

Just because I am powerful, (the most powerful person in Skyrim, actually) doesn't mean I cannot be submissive.

In fact the more powerful, the better it feels when reduced to a drooling helpless slave. :P

Don't I know it! "Oh, I submit, I am too weak, please don't kill me!" and then one night... vampire feeding frenzy... yum... :D

PS. Yes, it was the blood vessel. There are a couple of places with a throne like that.

    Yay for us vampire players.

We should band together and destroy Dawnguard once and for all. They are interfering with my submissive play. :P

    Correct.

  16. When I click on the "Sign in" button on the bottom of any page in order to reply a thread, my browser starts to download some seamingly random file from LL. Does anybody else have this problem?

For instance, on one of the FO4 threads the file was DLC-Honoka_NEW_nude_mod(something).7z
