Frankly I don't see much point in whining. I am entirely sure most of you, just like me, will have a hard time remembering what any of Bethesda's Creation Engine vanilla games look like. If you do, you'll admit that they aren't that good. I mean literally every single one of those. For me, i don't even know what vanilla Fallout 3 and New Vegas actually look like. I moved to those after getting acquainted with the whole mods thing in Oblivion and in Skyrim (actually played vanilla versions of those; Oblivion was fun at first for me without mods, it was a while before a learned about mods, but with Skyrim I think I played vanilla for like 5 hours before installing a bunch of mods, since I was not amused). I never even launched Fallout3 and New Vegas without mods installed. Knowing what tedious experience vanilla Oblivion and Skyrim were I went straight to Nexus and downloaded a couple dozen mods people recommended.
Bethesda doesn't make genius games. They make decent ones which are good for a play through. In fact, thats enough for them. They don't need to make anything extraordinary. They allowed people who want that to do it for themselves. FO4 is another one of those games. Just another basic sandbox for people to fiddle with. They tweaked a bit the engine, threw together some kind of setting and a plot of sorts, added some useless junk for commercial appeal and thats it - a a new game. The rest is up to modders.
So my point is, if i have to grade FO4, as a person who played Bethesda games with mods for almost 10 years now and who can hardly remember the vanilla experience, i give it a 4 on 1 to 10 scale; as a casual gamer - 8. This, i think, is what many people might be forgetting here.
