"ACK! It's not dead!"

Considering the fact that the owner of that van (6th down) would get hounded continuously starting 1.5 seconds after he drove off the paint lot if that were in the U.S.... It's definitely a cultural thing. I'd love to be there during said event just to see the reactions of my "fellow" Americans to such things. "Oh, no, this offends my sensibilities! It must be stopped immediately!!!" Welcome to Japan. Don't like it? Leave. "But, but, but" Byyeee! Sure wish we'd do the same here. Oh well.

Sidenote: Be careful with Newegg. They often have the best prices, but read the return policy very carefully. I get the impression that they're fine with replacement of a faulty product, but not with return and refund. Also some places are well known for giving you refurbished products as a replacement for a faulty new product, even though you played full "new" price in the first place. Sneaky, sneaky. Places like Amazon will take a product back and refund you the money within the grace period, and they're not that much more expensive. Sometimes that extra money's well spent.

Well, I got a 2TB that worked just fine for somewhere between 6 months to a year, and then suddenly decided it wasn't happy and started wanting to run checks on a weekly basis. I got used to them, and then it totally crapped and erased everything on one of those checks. 1.5 TB gone in a flash. My 240GB main drive has been working flawlessly for... well, since I got the thing, so I'm guessing at 10 years plus? It and the case are pretty much the only components I salvaged from my old rig when I built this one a year ago. Makes me think smaller is better for longevity. Both are the old tech (hard disk), rather than solid state. I do have a solid state, but haven't been running it long enough to recommend anything. Friends have said: disk for storage, solid state to run things (faster). Your OS and other essential always running stuff would ideally go on a solid state, even if it's a small one, just for that purpose.

I understand where you're going, and have heard of such German law, but I take issue with your example. When I was a medic (of sorts, EMT-B for the Americans, no drugs), one of the things they covered was the trend toward explicitly NOT removing helmets from a patient. The reasoning had to do with maintaining cervical spine alignment. For those not medically inclined, the basic concept was the same as: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". As long as the patient has an airway, is breathing, and has good circulation (isn't bleeding, heart is pumping effectively), don't mess with the situation. We were reminded time and again that we on the street do not have x-ray vision and thus have no idea what's going on inside other than what we could ascertain from signs and symptoms. It may look bad, but so long as the ABCs are okay and you can transport with the helmet in place, don't remove it, as that's just making changes that might make the situation worse, for no defined gain. Disclaimer: That training was at least five years ago, protocols may have changed yet again, and probably have. Take the above with a salt lick.

Wait, what? The fuck? Sooo, are they at some point going to get around to making He-Man She-Woman? Just to be totally politically correct, you know. Sigh. Back OT, yeah, the new joker definitely lives up to his name. A complete joke.

The idea that the bystanders were afraid of what might happen and thought of movies as a probability, not just a possibility, is entirely likely. Another factor to consider is that fear of fire is one of the most basic fears of most humans, a bit like fear of water. No telling what might have happened had someone or several someones done something, anything. It all depends on the individual situation. Break a window to get to the guy and provide oxygen to the fire that it didn't have: POOF! Instant inferno (this would require an airtight, or mostly so, vehicle to begin with; highly unlikely). Or, break the glass and nothing happens, or not break the glass and the guy can't get out and dies anyway. Unfortunately, in the end, most people go for self preservation over helping others in obvious need of said help. Of course, do the wrong thing for the right reasons through ignorance and end up causing harm... in today's world that would likely lead to a lawsuit. Just another reason not to get involved. Piss poor situation all around.

Re: Silencers, I can't say from personal experience, but it makes sense to me some of the things I've been told. Chief among these is: You can quiet the round by making it subsonic (it's passing of the sound barrier of a supersonic bullet that makes the loud "CRACK!" that you associate with most gunfire) and filtering the escaping gasses through baffles in the silencer mechanism (usually looks like a big barrel on the end of the rifle/handgun), but you'll still have the much louder sound coming from the cycling of the bolt mechanism which loads the next round into the chamber. During Vietnam, the US Navy developed the Mk 22 "Hush puppy" specifically to silence guard dogs. Despite the fact that the SEALs ran far more often into guard geese, they did have the capability to lock the slide on the Mk 22 making it very quiet indeed, yet in effect a single shot weapon until you unlocked and cycled the slide. The Hush puppy had "wipes" which were the baffle "walls" inside the silencer. Think disk with a hole in the middle for the bullet to pass through. They didn't last to terribly long, and had to be replaced after not to many shots as the heat of the passing bullets tended to break down the compound they were made of, thus allowing more gasses to escape faster and make the weapon louder. http://www.guns.com/2013/02/04/mk-22-hush-puppy-pistol/

How does this work? If it's downloadable from the site, that must mean that the code is ready. But the fact that it is, yet isn't "released" yet, implies that the release is just about being stingy and saying "you can't play this until we say you can, even though it is, in fact, ready now." So where am I thinking incorrectly here, as my previous understanding thereof was as is stated in the second paragraph: I must be mistaken when I think "It's a game that I pay for, but you somehow remain in full control of. As such, the game relies completely on your server to run, yet also requires a segment (usually large) of my hard drive space in order for me to run it. So best I can guess is this: Game is loaded onto my hard drive like any other but there's some segment or "kernel" that it absolutely, positively, won't run without... and that kernel is kept on not my computer, but your server, therefore giving you full control of the situation. And oh-by-the-way, I never have, and never will agree with this idiotic idea of selling someone something, but keeping full control of when, where, and how they use it. What a stupid idea (but it works, muhahahaha!!!)" Is the above idea incorrect? If so, how, exactly, does this idiocy called "Steam" work? Addendum in lieu of a new post: In case anyone wonders, it was ridiculous. All than anticipation and I don't think I have 20 hours on the game yet. Pretty silly. I guess I've finally aged out of GTA.

GornGrimm, I understand your confusion. My tenancy to get convoluted is at it again. Sorry about that! RedFlyingMonkey, actually I do know, as they make it quite clear: I, the end user, own nothing. Period. As per pre-orders, I'm not usually one for that either, but with this one it's gone through about six different consoles and finally gotten to PC... in a form that the reviews all seem to be calling "the definitive version of the game". (Grand Theft Auto) (Unlike GTA IV which they all but admit they did a horrible job on... so, yeah. If it all goes belly up, I have only myself to blame for buying in.) Given my disappointment with GTA IV after San Andreas, I was seriously thinking against GTA V, but my interest in getting back to an open world environment like GTA:SA had that was completely lacking in IV won out. We shall see if I've wasted my money I get what I hope I'm getting.

Had a guy killed doing that here. As usual, the media instantly latched onto "shall they be prosecuted for hitting him?" Fortunately, uncommon sense won out and the driver who hit and killed a black guy wearing black, walking down the middle of the road on a dark night without a light, was not charged.

Cultural aspects that seem to include such things as vending machines for worn (as in one time only) panties (probably by said girls), as it's considered an aphrodisiac, or so I've heard. Just a different way of looking at the world I guess. I don't know how Japan is these days, but if it's at all like some other cultures where females are considered undesirable as an offspring to have, and then they wonder why it is that they don't have any women around, I can see why the young virgin schoolgirl fantasy exists. It's just that. A complete fantasy. "Soiled by man"? Sheesh. Must not have much of an opinion of men!

What Mod Is This? - Non-Adult Skyrim edition
AKM replied to DoctaSax's topic in Skyrim Non Adult Mods
This one doesn't allow you to equip anything (spells, potions, etc.) while in combat. I like that aspect, except it also doesn't allow you to pick up a fallen friend/foe's weapon while in combat, which I've heard done. The absolute worst part is that on top of that, it doesn't allow you to change weapons in combat. I like my bow, but should I run out of arrows, (or worse, have the bow break on me), I have to run because as I'm in combat, I can't just reach to my side and pull that no longer so handy sword out of the scabbard, or pull that shield off my back. It's driving me nuts. Load Order: Any idea what mod it might be that's doing this? @ Epic_Score, at least it's not a tank-engine! -
There's another avenue that most probably haven't considered. Some people order a customized PC from manufacturers, then cancel their order at some later date, prior to delivery. Sometimes said PC is well into or even finished the manufacturing process prior to order cancellation. For some reason they can't sell these things at their usual prices, so they go to the "discount" pile, often right beside those with minor imperfections (case scratches, the like), that they couldn't sell as "officially new", but are otherwise perfectly fine. If you're willing to A. Compromise (you already have, it seems.) and B. Wait for something as close as possible to what you really wanted to come along, You can often get a really good PC damn near at cost. Price out the individual parts, and you'll likely be a believer. I know I am. I was in the process of doing exactly what you're doing and build it myself, until I realized that I could get someone's discard that was almost exactly what I wanted, at just slightly over the cost of the parts, and someone else would build it, too! Pretty good deal, if you're willing to do some site camping, as the really good ones go quickly. Also, you still have to do your research so that you know exactly what you want, and get exactly what you think you're getting. I'm looking at Dell outlet. Not a super fan of Dell, but the computer before this one was such, and I never had problems with it that I can remember. Here's the page for what I'm looking at. Modify the settings to the left of the screen for whatever you're looking for, and remember that just because it isn't there today, doesn't mean it won't be tomorrow. My friend waited/camped for two months to get his deal. And what a deal he got. http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh&brandid=2202&fid=5991

First off, here's the Sexlab Index you were looking for: http://www.loverslab.com/topic/19588-sexlab-index/ Secondly, a tip for modding: Don't just save your game often; save you Data folder often as well (or even just backup your whole Skyrim directory if you have the HD space). I haven't followed my own advice much here, however I do have a basics modded Data "start" folder so I don't have to go all the way back to square one if something happens. Keep in mind that most of these mods are fairly customizable, usually in the Mod Configuration Menu (MCM). I do get the impression that MCM menus have to be implemented by the mod author, and some don't have them, even though it would come in handy. This menu is in the main menu: Press 'Esc', and down the left side of the screen, there are a number of settings (save, load, etc)... about half way down is the MCM, if it's loaded. You mentioned, specifically, not liking the blindfold effect. That's modifiable. There's a second effect for the blindfold that apparently does let you see enough to navigate in first person. I've never tried it myself. Like a previous poster, I got tired of the original and simply disabled blindfolds in the MCM settings. With my current settings, for example, anyone who captures my character will never equip blindfolds, unless from her inventory. I could disable that, too, but I just make a point of never carrying blindfolds. (Why use player inventory? Because if I have them use inventory restraints, the program isn't making more every time the character gets a device equipped, and thus swamping the game world with items that aren't needed for my less than optimal CPU to keep track of.) Your best bet is to be very clear on what a particular mod does, load it, load the game, find or do whatever the mod does and test it. Once you know it's installed and working (correctly), exit the game (maybe even make a new save) and load the next mod. I've had a number of problems with loading several mods at once and then having an issue, with no idea which of the newly loaded mods was causing it. There are two programs I highly recommend. 1. FNIS - Fores New Idles in Skyrim - Sorts scripts as best I can tell. Most of these mods run scripts; this program makes sure they play as well as possible together and/or actually makes them available to the program to run in the first place. Pretty much required by a lot of mods. 2. LOOT - Load Order Optimization Tool - Things further down in the load order can overwrite things higher up in the load order (I think). I messed around with Oblivion without this, got it for Skyrim, and am never doing without it again. Manual load ordering is a big hassle, and I've yet to have issues that I can track to the load orders LOOT decides on. Some mods (based on posts above) that I'm sure you'll want: 1. Death Alternative (DAYMOYL) (or other "No more reload on death" mod) - Basically, when killed, it actually knocks out your character and starts one of a number of possible scenarios. This is also critical to a number of the player slavery mods. This one is also very customizable through the MCM. Great for game continuity rather than "Damn! - reload... Damn! - reload..." It's another to get you to stop and think before engaging that pack of (insert dangerous enemy here), rather than just running in and flailing away with fingers crossed. There's also an MCM in DA (I think) that will get rid of that silly ragdoll on death effect. [EDIT: I think I was thinking ragdoll on sex completion. Meh. Either way, I find ragdoll extremely silly in a very not good way.] Oh, and welcome to LL!
