  1. Just my ten cents: If it has sex, people will play it. You also may as well slap up a Patreon, because everyone else is. Then once the Patreon gets going, quit your day job and laugh at all the nerd males who keep giving you free money for a game you'll likely never complete. Be sure to procrastinate on the game's development to rake in more Patreon money, because once the project is complete, people will stop donating.

The story doesn't necessarily need to make sense. To put it in perspective, the best adult mod imo for Crusader Kings II -- a historical simulator grounded in reality -- is Dew's Dark World, and that has fucking werewolves, vampires, futanari's, and Harley from Batman for good measure. Just do whatever makes you happy, because believe me, if you're working on a project you're not happy with, you WILL burn out.

  2. I'm certainly looking forward to it, but the problem is I'm not sure what I'm looking forward to getting! The Kickstarter never went into strong specifics regarding the gameplay. Since it's almost multi-player exclusively, what will the developers do to keep the gameplay fresh? The camp councilors can kill Freddy, but what are some methods to this? What can the camp councilors do to keep them occupied as Freddy systematically hunts them? What's stopping the councilors from simply huddling and crouching into the corner of an indoor room?

Even this gameplay video they showed a week ago doesn't address my concerns.

There's too many questions, and not enough answers, which is why I feel this game will fail. It will be like Evolve, but perhaps a lot more repetitive (as if Evolve wasn't repetitive enough!)

I've had similar issues in the earlier starts, with Norman portraits in particular. Works fine in 1066, but if I culture swap (such as Norse to Norman), bam.

I'm having a harder time duplicating this issue, because I believe it requires someone of the Norse culture to settle in Normandy, where they get the option to convert to the Norman culture, so I don't have the time to try that yet, lol. Norman is a westerngfx culture, so in the Old Age, it should use the Early Western Clothing pack. This fix was corrected in a somewhat recent version of Dark World, so hopefully this issue no longer applies. If you still have the issue, ensure you have the Early Western Clothing pack DLC enabled. If you don't have that DLC, and refuse to buy it, go into Dark World's interface folder and delete portraits_western_early.gfx

Similar to my last post, the reason Norman works for you in 1066 is because it's bypassing your culprit -- the Early Clothing Pack DLC. If Norman isn't working, even in 1066, then that's another issue entirely I'll have to figure out. Perhaps culture swaps don't work with my static portraits, although I don't see why they wouldn't.

OK I have all the DLC's, 2.4.5 patch. If your culture is bedouin the custom portraits dont work. As far as I know there are no Bedouin culture packs. There are persian and african though. But the custom portraits work for those.

I just checked this.  First I started in 1066 with an existing Bedouin ruler (male, of course, due to Iqta).  I triggered the event, and a female vampire with the appropriate custom portrait showed up.  I then started again with a custom female Bedouin ruler in the Old Gods start.  When I triggered the event, this time I got a male vampire with no custom portrait.  So whatever's going on probably has to do with either female rulers or the male custom portraits.

I've found and duplicated the issue. This is due to an incompatibility with the "Early Eastern Clothing Pack" DLC, modifying all Muslim gfx portraits in the Old Age. What's happening is you have the Early Eastern Clothing pack enabled, but Dew doesn't have Dark World supporting the Early Eastern Clothing pack DLC yet. The reason this isn't an issue for the year 1066 is because the Early Eastern Clothing pack only applies to the Old Age, so by starting at a later year, you're bypassing that problematic DLC.

    Two fixes:
1.) Either disable your Early Eastern Clothing Pack DLC.
2.) Use my hot-fix for Early Eastern Clothing Pack users -- insert this file into Dark World's interface folder. I'll update Dew on this fix for the main mod (note: If any of you don't own the Early Eastern Clothing Pack, do NOT use this file!):

The whole mechanism around these projects is such that only the latest 'donations' matter and all earlier ones are immediately forgotten. This system pretty much guarantees that I will not back anything for more than 5€/month unless the project is something truly life changing AND makes a good progress all the time.

Very good point. The only problem is we can't tell whether our donations will be late in the project's cycle or early, because only $1/month donators get access to the activity feed. With that in mind, is there anyone who subbed to this Patreon for $1/month who can, just once, forward us the current "activity feed?" I'd like to get a general ETA of when this project is approaching release. Even if the author doesn't hint at a release, based on the activity feed, is anyone willing to make an educated guess? The Patreon doesn't mention which version he's currently working on. I'd be willing to donate, but only as a late donator. Someone tell him he gets my money once I get my ETA!

I managed to get it working, took a couple of hours, but for my first modding experience, it wasn't so bad.  Now I just need to maintain my version whenever yours comes out. :P And it will be for personal use only, I don't want to just steal your thunder, mine is only a couple hours ofmodifications, nowhere near the amount of work you have put into it. Thanks again for the great mod. :)

I'm really shocked Dark World can even remotely work on Game of Thrones. With all the events, portrait property slots, new cultures, and new religions and such, it's a miracle. Not that I don't believe you, but just be sure to test the hell out of that thing before getting too enamored with your save file :D.

  8. I think we've learned a valuable lesson... Create an adult project on Patreon and watch the money flow. Interesting RPG Maker was chosen so there's no lawsuit. If it was any other game, there would be.

I don't understand though. How is this guy making more per month than the Lovers Lab Patreon!

    ----------

Edit: I just finished the demo. I really enjoyed it, despite the number of typo's. The guy's natural language is English, so I understood it all, but some of the typo's are laughable (at one point, he even misspells the protagonist's name). I'm hoping there's more decisions to be made throughout the game, because as far as I could tell, there was only one. There's also no game over rape, other than one scene from the protagonist's ex-boyfriend that always plays -- it'd be nice to see specific game over rape scenes involving the characters who beat the protagonist.

Since donating gets you the game, I'm going to wait until it's a high version #. I don't want to donate this soon and be coughing up $100's over the course of this game's life-cycle. Does anyone know how long this game has been in development? His first post on Patreon was on June 8th, and the demo already feels solid. If he gets done in early 2016, donating might be worth it to me.

so if i delete blinded_eyes.dds file of CK2plus the portraits in dark world will work?

It definitely works, but I think CKII+ may be what's causing my portraits to not work.

What I'm actually saying is the blinded_eyes graphic won't work with Dark World. If you try applying "add_trait blinded" to a character, you won't see that graphic. They'll still receive the trait, but they won't have their eyes cut out. This is a necessary evil to get my portraits to work (and I hate the blinded graphic, anyways).

As for CKII+ not causing Dark World's portraits to work, I came across something interesting: I tested fresh installs of both the recent Dark World and CKII+, and I'm surprised to find CKII+ had no conflicts with Dark World. I tested everything across various cultures. This surprised me because CKII+ had added a new custom blinded graphic in an earlier version, yet I'm looking through the newest version of CKII+ on Steam Workshop, yet the portrait_properties file references no such blinded graphic! This means CKII+ should no longer conflict with Dark World's portraits, because CKII+ is using default property slots in the portrait_properties file! I think somehow, the CKII+ author fucked up and forgot his blinded graphic, or he removed it intentionally.

Delete CKII+, then make sure you're re-updated to the latest CKII+ from Steam Workshop and get back with me. Furthermore, make sure you have all the portrait packs, and the Western clothing pack.

Edit: Even if CKII+ did have its custom blinded graphic, the two mods shouldn't conflict. This is because p10 blinded takes advantage of portraits 43-63, which Dew hasn't implemented yet. He's only used portraits 1-25. CKII+ is not why your portraits aren't working.

CKII+ doesn't work with many other portrait mods (definitely not mine), because CKII+ uses the blinded_eyes property slot by adding a blind tiara, in place of the dark cut-out eyes. I was testing a compatibility patch, which I got working, but I've been so busy transitioning my portraits to the Game of Thrones mod, helping Dew on DW, playing Fallout 4, etc. so I'll revisit the compatibility patches later.

  11. I can't remember if this is merely an issue with the new forum, or an issue carried over from the old one, but when I uploaded a mod to the miscellaneous section, it dropped it into the "adult gaming" section. Why not have an option to drop a mod into the "general gaming" section? The only thing I can think of is Lover's Lab would prefer to only host sexually related content (I suppose that is the point to this forum!), but it seems odd having a section discussing non-sexual mods without an option to upload non-sexual mods.

One work-around to this is hosting my files on a file-sharing service, such as Media Fire, then simply create a topic in general gaming with links to the files; however, that bypasses Lover's Lab file hosting, which is something they seem to value and endorse.

I also tried moving my topic to general gaming, but obviously I don't have the forum permissions for that. The only option for my topic is to delete it.

So what's the best approach? I don't see anything in the guidelines section on this.

I really appreciate that offer, but I would recommend not sweating it.

I am going to slap in an edit that prevents them from showing up in the ruler designer. They're intended for NPC's primarily, and some represent traits that aren't eligible via the Ruler Designer, so I was thinking it would be best to just remove them. :)

Besides, I'm probably going to pull all the traits into one file, just to help reduce the save issue that was mentioned a few pages back. When I do this, is when I'd be adding the no ruler designer flag.

Good idea, and that would cut down on some of the questions you're getting about Ruler Designer content and reduce the clutter for those who do use Ruler Designer. To remove the selected traits from Ruler Designer, set each trait from customizer = yes to customizer = no, or maybe just delete the lines.

I've been almost adding one or two in every update lately, and I've no plans on stopping. Folks can live without the blind effect appearing on their characters in the mod.

Okay, if you ever need more than 83 portraits, get back with me and I can disable the scars slot too, lol. I was reluctant to take that out though, because scars are a lot more common with dueling events, and such, but it's still rare enough to maybe ignore.

Those show up in there because ReMeDy constructed his custom image mod where folks could select an image during creation if they wanted to. I don't intend for that with Dark World, but if you really want to select one, there isn't anything stopping you. The only drawback - you need to know what each one looks like in advance I believe as the actual image doesn't show up until the game starts, and right now, Dark World is only using something like 23-24 of the potential slots.

If you're interested, I can add the portrait images into the trait icons so the player knows which character portrait they're picking. It'd be similar to what I did in my anime pack image below, but I can't edit the names of the portraits though, as that would break your code. I'll also leave the descriptions blank -- I wouldn't know who your mod's characters are to be able to describe them.

Problem is when you add more portraits, trait icons is just one more thing you'll need to add to, so I wouldn't worry about it if sounds like a nuisance. The use of Ruler Designer is outside the scope of your mod, anyways.

Question for Dew: How many custom portraits do you plan on having in your final mod? If it's less than 63, I can send you files fixing the blinded gfx on portraits. If so, I need to know that the current release's files are the most up to date, otherwise I'd be spending time editing obsolete files. If that sounds like something you're interested in, let me know.

Still won't change the fact though reddots, boils, and the purple vignette won't work, but I suppose freeing up blinded is better than nothing.

It's finally out of beta. It took them a few years, but I blame Paradox for that with failing to update the many bugs introduced by Horse Lords.

Now that it's out, I'm going to work on a sub-mod to add character portraits from the show. Unlike my other portraits mod, it won't require console commands, as all the portraits will be automatically assigned to each character upon starting a new game. I've also released a music pack from the Game of Thrones soundtrack, but that's up to Lover's Lab if they want to keep that content, or not.

  17. I like how everything in this mod can be opted into. Nothing is forced upon the players. Don't want futas? Fine. Don't want immortality? No problem. Don't want Lilith visiting you? Okay.

The only question I have is if the Vampires and/or Werewolves are optional or not. For example, I'm not sure if accepting Vampire Hunters into your court means you're taking part in the Vampire content, or you accepting them means you don't want them in your game (I'm assuming the former is more likely).

  18. i finally got around to figuring this bug out.   The DLC Early Western clothing pack, breaks the custom portraits among the western rulers during the start dates for charlemagne and the old gods. the portaits show like a regular portrait with red dots all over their faces, disabling this dlc box seems to fix all problems.

I have a fix for the Early Western Clothing Pack incompatibility. Drag the attached file's contents into Dark World's interface folder. I collaborated with Dew on this, so we're on the same page.

    Edit:

ok some of the pics work some of them don't and end up with there numbers on them like 84 and thous above 10 form what ive seen that is so far it dose not work in old gods our Charlemagne witch is a pain

Yes, some portraits stop displaying content at about portrait 10. The remaining portraits counting up to 84 are placeholder images, displaying black silhouetted characters. Dew mentioned adding more characters, so what's left is a template for him.

Charlemagne and the Old Gods DLC are perfectly compatible with Dark World, but because Charlemagne and the Old Gods occur early in the timeline, they're sharing content from the Early Western Clothing Pack DLC, which is conflicting with Dark World's portraits. Attach the following file's contents and you should be fine.

NOTE: ANYONE WHO DOES NOT HAVE THE EARLY WESTERN CLOTHING PACK DLC, DO NOT USE THESE FILES! Your affected characters will be naked!

  19. Ok, I may of looked over it at some point, but where it says portrait 1, 2 3 ect in the traits is there a custom portrait pack to go with these? or are they just for other peoples use if they want to add their own image's?

Are you referring to the black heart icons in both the ruler designer and in each custom character's traits row? If so, no, there is no pack for the trait icons. I created a Dark World portrait trait pack just for the hell of it, but it would have to be updated as Dew releases more custom characters (which he will), so I'd rather not release it.

If you're referring to portraits past the 15 mark, those are reserved for when Dew releases more portraits. My portrait pack can support up to 84 portraits, but for the sake of simplicity, he's leaving the portrait slots he's not using so he can add to them later.

I found this funny -- I worked as a whore and my husband, of all people, ended up visiting me! I guess if he's going to put up with my indecency, he decided he needs to take the initiative! My succubus attractive modifier is so good, basically I can do whatever I want and all the men put up with it.

Heh, nice. Elaborating more on who's visiting you is something I'd like to squeeze in at some point.

Can you get pregnant from the person visiting you? If so, yea that would be cool to know who it is in advance, but I also suppose that's the price you pay for being a whore is not getting to choose your clients (depending on the kind of brothel you want).

Edit: It looks like you can know who the man or woman will be in advance, based on the portrait next to each decision. This is great, because if you can get pregnant by a man, I suppose you could opt for the woman to avoid any of the male's bad traits.

  22. I just now ran your mod for the first time. I'm using the svn version, and the only thing that jumps out at me that's making me cringe is... Change "ligit" to "legit", lol. I think I'm fine with any random decision or pop-up text typo's, because I don't have to stare at them, but that typo is clear at the top on the government policy screen, so I see it a lot.

Also, is the svn version a cheat mod, in a sense? I noticed changing policies is instantaneous, I can change inheritance laws w/ just 0 years of reign. and I can instantly declare independence into a sexual nation with no strings attached. I feel like there needs to be more rules set on these, but to each his own. Also, is my character supposed to start with a heterosexual trait, because my character has no sexuality trait, whereas all other NPC's have one.
