@Absurd If COD wasn't released every single year by alternating companies, I'd say it would still be a good genre. There are examples on both sides of the fence of this type of game I guess, I was thinking of Halo&Bungie, Mass Effect, or StarCraft.
@ Rest of Post:
Someone please PLEASE name me another game/company that is doing better than Skyrim/Oblivion in this field. I'm taking modern games, past 5 or so years. From what I have been seeing from these posts is that people are comparing TES games with themselves and not with their competitors. I haven't seen a post that says, this game has this concept and Bethesda couldn't even do that!
Hell, is there even another open world RPG that can be fully modded? Assassins Creed/GTA4 are open world games but not RPGs. Witcher/Witcher2 I heard were very good (haven't played yet though I should), but still haven't achieved the popularity of Skyrim. Dragon Age: Origins was very RPG-like, but the company distanced themselves from the D&D gameplay in the hack&slash sequel of DA2. Mass Effect was a solid RPG but had a very linear plot, and consisted of levels rather than an open world.
Divinity 2: The dragon knight saga for example (http://www.divinity2-saga.com/index.php?rub=home) , alot more polished action rpg then skyrim in my opinion, with actual dragon fighting system, where you turn yourself into a dragon with plenty of air combat.
Altough the world isnt so open as skyrims, its still pretty big and this game is also running on gamebryo engine and isnt riddled with bugs like skyrim.
If the game would have been more open and moddable it could have easyly topped skyrim in any way.

I don't post anything on their forums, I just download stuff. They seem to not like opinions. If your opinion differs, then it can be problematic , so I avoid it altogether. I don't suggest going to their chat room and a ban may result from talking with them or other members about anything.
Yeah i seen that happen, i went there once, said hi but noone replied, luckly i just walked away...the day after i see a thread about someone being banned because of the chat...someone asked for help in the chat and got in to an argument with them..and bam banned lol...yep they dont like different opinions.

@WaxenFigure
I dont know why but your mod is the only one im unable to download, it always gets stuck at 4%, i been trying to download it for 3 days now, im starting to grow gray hair

Even if you make a new update it is still stucked, i wonder why is this happening.
I'm not sure why you can't download it. It's hosted on the LL system and not in a third party hosting service if that helps you chase down the problem.
Thank you, well i made a topic in the technical problems section, somedays ago, but noone answered...but its strange because i have no
problem with other atachments in skyrim section, just with yours..really wierd.
Well going to google more about this problem i guess, thanks again.

All of the tes games had their flaws, everyone who played them knows that, the bitching here is mostly about bethesdas direction leaning towards console kiddies, everything is simplified for them...ofc if we would hate the game we would have just moved away, we are bitching because we are dissapointed, wich is one of the things some fanboys dont get.
Its dissapointing to see bethesda slowly taking the rpg aspects out with each release and turning it to an action game for low attention spanners.
You can simply play the game for what it is and it is fun for a while, but its hard to ignore it, especially when you consider how great the game would be if they wouldnt be so damn lazy, going for cash grab.
What good is a whole world space, if the only thing you do is hiking and pushing action button from lvl 1 to 80 (or w/e the max lvl i, never got past lvl 25), where is the depth thats supposed to be a core pillar to make the world believable...skyrim is really just good for testing mods.

One word: mods. I actually honestly have forgotten what the skyrim UI looks like without SkyUI. As well as what skyrim itself looks like without ENB and company.
At least for single player games, there's a community dedicated enough to fix everything (within the realm of possibility, and sometimes even beyond (*SE, Deadly Reflex, Oblivion stutter remover, etc))
Indeed modding community is dedicated, but only for so long until they start to get bored fixing the same issues over and over in their next games.
I think bethesdas vision of a moddable game is that you can put in new armors, because those are the only mods the game doesnt have a problem with...im very interested what new engine they going to get on their next game, but i have a feeling even that wont help.

Not really horrible, i had fun on my first play, wich was arround 30+ hours, but the game is awfully shallow in everything...from combat to magic to quests...everything feels it lacks big time..simply put, the game is rushed.

I wanted a mod like this too, it adds greatly to the immersion...would be awesome if someone made also animations for being hurt...like in new vegas, when your character got badly wounded the running changed to crippled animation, although it looked like a retarded running horse, it was a nice addition to immersion and survival.
Battle fatigue and injuries
Yeah but this mod just adds stat changes, i was talking more about damage visuals and animations...im scared to install this mod because of so many stat changes, it will fark up my game..like it happened so many times with similar mods.
I would rather see a simpler mod that doesnt go to such in depth injury system, looks more of a chore then fun.

Well my problem is, certain mod downloads give me some odd error about that the file i was downloading couldnt be read from the source, usually my download gets stuck at certain % and afterwards comes the error.
This isnt happening on all downloads though, but i have no clue what the cause is, it started to happen like 2-3 weeks ago.
I tried different browser too, but same happens everywhere, i wonder could this be related to my internet connection?
Edit: hmm upon further testing i have this problem only with attachments, link to other sites work.

Havent tried the mod, i guess ill check it out, thank you for the tip.
I was refering to the vanila skyrim though, im aware there are mods, but usually dodging should be a part of the core combat and this shows how skyrims ceators dont care.
As for the combat, have you tried the TK combat mod, works well for me. http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/29137
Edit: idk if its just me, but the site is makin some odd magic to my text after the update :x0 -
True, it feels awfully clunky especially when compared to a game like Dragon's Dogma which handles combat and companion AI extremely well.
In Dragon's Dogma you climb a monster and hack at it's body parts, in Skyrim you stand in front of a dragon and frantically hit the mouse button. Honestly if it weren't for mods I wouldn't bother with Skyrim much at all.
Oh yeah dragons dogma has some really awesome combat, you can clearly see the makers were taking great care to make it fun, while in skyrim the combat is for the sake of being there and same is with magic.
When i first saw skyrim, i was imagining a more interactive approach to combat....especially the dragons...not one of such level as dragons dogma, but not mindless button mashing, turns out they didnt bothered.
The funniest thing about this is... we are in 2013 now and bethesda still didnt even discovered dodging, a simple addition to a combat system, but addition that makes it more engaging, so when they finally discover it and add to the combat system, that will be proly in 2016 for their next game...so by the time their games get their combat system on the level of todays games, i will be an old hook.

On the UI, I remember before Skyrim came out I said on other forums that the UI looked like total garbage in the previews.
Of course I got yelled at for "being negative". Lo and behold, I was 100% right. What a nasty, clunky mess it was. Thankfully SkyUI came along fairly rapidly and fixed that problem.
One thing that really bugs me about Skyrim is: No spell cast key. No yes, using the hands to cast is nice, but what if I want to use a two handed sword and a heal spell? I have to switch between them like an idiot, whereas in the other games I can use both hands for a weapon and cast a spell at the same time.
You would get yelled for that even now, there is so many blind fanboys everywhere.
The whole combat/magic "system" just feels outdated and lacks any sort of vision or direction, its that kind of a combat you would expect to see in games from the 90's.
Its basicaly the core of a combat system, that you have in any action game, but they didnt bothered to expand it further,
like normally action games do...thats why no matter if im lvl 1 or lvl 100 i still feel like im playing Gustav the farmer swinging his pickaxe,
because there is no sense of progression in combat...you have a few clunky attacks and lame magic and thats it....
for a game that's supposed to give you hundreds of hours, its lameness par excelence.
I think this is one of the main reasons why i cant play this game for more then 30min, because i know that no matter where i get, i dont feel any progression and since skyrim is all about combat...
No depth whatsoever.
That vid from Absurd perfectly demonstrates at what audience they aiming.

I dont really believe that' date=' if pc wouldnt be a good business they wouldnt have bothered with it at all.
They might say consoles are the main cash cow now, but because of the mods, their games are so overhyped, that people jump on anything they put out, so they must get good money from pc gamers also.
[/quote']
i think you didnt get what i was trying to say.
while "making the game" (scripting, planning, texturing, whatever...) bethesda had a very specific design, based 100% on consoles. look oblivion for example, it was a pain in the ass to navigate trough the UI on the xbox360 and without a mouse. what im trying to say, is that they gave us the console-game design exactly as it was to the pc and, at the same time, gave us the CK so we could make a personal pc conversion.
the best example is: SKYUI.
they knew pc gamers/mod community would do great job with mods, sooo... why bother doing X when mod community will do for it for us, free of charge?
also they got a very nice business/arrangement with STEAM. thats why steamworkshop exists. didnt you see it? its clear as water.
Oh sorry about that then, i misunderstood and thats exactly how i feel about it too...they wouldnt bother with pc at all if there wouldnt be something they would gain from it, as i said before.
Modders fix their game and it hypes the game in the process, wich in return sells their future games all the more...good strategy indeed.
I dont mind such strategy, what bothers me is the halfassed lazy work they put out...well nothing we can do about it really...therefore im just waiting for some other game studio that would take this seriously.

Heh, murdering, whole holocausts in the name of religion, peace, whatever, were done long before anyone even knew what a video game is...but its dem evilz video gamez!!
Dont want to offend anyone, but i always have a good laugh at these US politicians, whos usefulness was long gone before they even got to their place.
Nice world we men created, really.

As a console player:
It's funny to see you guys complain' date=' with all your mods and actual hotkeys.

Thats because mods dont fix whats already broken in the core.

Yeah i been seriously missing that spell in skyrim, you stand on some big mountain and think how awesome would be to levitate, or make some slowdown falling (the feather spell?).

Well they are dumbing their games down now, its clear that this is going only downhill from now on.
Just, in gods sake, dont let the kids use too much brain cells and instead hand everything to them, who would want a journal to read quest descriptions anyway, just point the way and let them press right/left mouse button for dem kills!
When you make puzzles, just in gods sake, dont let them work too hard to find the answer, better yet, make only one kind of a puzzle door with dat awesome dragon claw so even a retard can open it, we wouldnt want to frustrate the cod crowd now, wouldnt we!
Well pretty much agree with eveything you said, but we are just going in circles now...everything has been said regardless of this.
Im just waiting for some serious game studio.

Well its all back to a medieval religious conditioning of sex is un-pure' date=' logically I dont believe god cares either way so long as its not harming any one but I was educated in a fanatical christian school and that religious conditioning is very hard to break.
Now days I follow a more spiritual divine faith path than an strict religious doctrine.
I think part of the problem is when I download a mod I heavily test its so I dont end up wasting time or cheating on my main char, so when I download these kind or mods the game becomes purely about getting my character through sexual situations. the same thing happens whenever I address any non lore friendly content, it breaks the role-play value for me.
When I play rpg's I dont play in the sense of watching the character progressing through the world, I play in the sense of I am the character so I kind of jump into the characters mindset, thats what I love is role-playing all combat ect is secondary for me. So when excessively testing mods I always break the immersion and therefore my game enjoyment is reduced to nothing.
I usually end up over testing the sex mods though because I want to see how robust the scripts are ect and sex mods take a lot of coding.
I kind of gave up trying to find a proper study there are too many theories and everyone says something different.
usually the only reason I go for the sex mods is because I get an idea stuck in my head that requires a sex component, like vampires posing as courtesans, brood-mothers of demonic creatures, or role playing a succubus character (Im vain and succubi are supposed to be the models of the demonic realms lol).

Yeah christianity and all that stuff makes people like that, pretty much all of the prejudice comes from there.
On the other side, despite growing up in such enviroment, you seem to be an openminded person, wich is something i can only applaud, its not easy to stay that way, while hearing all that brainwashing.
But, yeah, as you said it has still a heavy inpact on ones view of these things...all i can say is, stay true to your feelings, if you feel its not right then simply stop, or you can simply overcome that feeling by even more openmindness.
If god would be pissed at us everytime we touch ourselfs or play a sex mod, this planet would become empty in no time lol.

I can see how well Oblivion mods would apply to real life too.
"I CAST MY RAPE SPELL!!"
*STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM....!
"Hi officer' date=' why don't we have sex instead of you arresting me?"
"...."
*spends the day in a jail cell*

If adult games/mods would have an inpact on people, that they would run arround and rape everything, it would have happened long time ago.
The problem here is, we are hearing all the time about how bad sex is and we should hide it, its filthy...you have tons of movies where blood flows like a waterfall and noone is concerned about it, but put a nipple on the screen and suddenly everyone runs for pitches and forks.
Sexuality is part of us and by supressing it, like we do, we only make it manifest itself in worser forms...like child abuse, rape etc.
Remember, shit like rape and other stuff was happening long before any games existed.
Im more concerned about what they put on tv then what they put in games.

Sounds like combat rape, where npcs gave up on raping someone...but the cave bear one sounds hilarious xD
