Skyrim devouring 4 GB of RAM (memory module, not memory card, completely different things) when a bunch of mods (depending on what kind of mods, but I guess you've been 'retexturing', 'improving lighting', etc) have been added to it, is fairly normal. As far as upgrading your RAM goes, that'll depend on your laptop. There is a maximum supported limit for it, and it should be specified in the manual. However, do you *really* need the RAM? Are you certain it is being completely used up to the point of paging kicking in? You could see about shutting down as many background applications as possible before delving into your modded Skyrim.
