I like blue, and even with that small reduction to the brightness, I think it looks a lot better. I'd still say make it just a bit more muted, but I know your against that.
So.

Sorry for the nit picking.

But I think it would look better if the colors were more muted. The bottom bars looked fine when they were in greyscale, though of course other variants are possible. I'm just not a huge fan of the electric blue popping out so much at me, in both of the bars. :\

Generally the way I will layout my hud if given the choice (like in Second Life for instance) is: anything I want to be able to constantly keep my eye on goes to the top; anything I want to glance at and check will go on the bottom. That's just what's most comfortable for me anyways. As for left or right... no idea, hah... though yeah... for some reason left sounds better... it just does!
Edit: I do like the hud though. And here's why those bars should be to the left: the gun is on the right. Simple as that.
Easy to miss when the hud isn't actually shown on top of gameplay.Edit: One more note about positioning things in either the top or the bottom. The thing is, although putting something at the top makes it easier to consistently keep your eye on it, it also makes it have a higher profile in your view; it's harder to not see. If it's placed on the bottom, when a player wants to zone out, it's easier to forget that hud bar exists.

Shocking footage of people being filmed when they didn't think anyone was recording.

However, I do want to see developers to actually make the distinction between male and female in regards to the gaming world. The problem I see with gaming today is that there is no distinction if you're a brawny male with a steel six pack or a woman that is graceful and beautiful. That's irritates me since I want games to be pushing the boundaries in a sense.
TL:DR, rarely I play females.
Not to get into an argument. The last thing I want to do is have a debate. Besides, I suck at them, hah.
So, with all the goodwill in the world, I say:I deal enough in the real world, with all of the issues gender gives me. I have enough rage, and hate, and anger that boils inside of me when the world looks at me and says "you're X, so you're Y" and I shudder and shake and scream "NO!" from the very bottom of my soul. I am so very glad that games do not have any real distinctions between male and female. So very, very glad.

Soon to play the Battlefield 4 beta... installing origin right now... and googling stuff about "does origin scan your computer?"

Star Command, from the humble bundle. I swear... it's freaking awesome. I have decided: The best Star Trek games are games that aren't actually Star Trek. If the game was actually "The Federation" instead of "Star Command," had "The Enterprise" instead of your own ship, had stuff like Vulcans instead of "Midorians" and all of that... it would be bad. It wouldn't feel right. It would be "well this isn't really how Star Trek should be..." Yet as a game apart from Star Trek, yet heavily influenced by it, it becomes glorious, as a silly, lighthearted reference to it, to simply enjoy and have fun with. And it is indeed, very fun.

Ok going to give the HuD stuff another shot today, since I'm home early. I don't know why I keep feeling compelled to mess with it, just feel like I can do better I guess. But yeah hopefully i can tweak/make something alright so I can just be done with it and move on lol.
edit
Hey how opposed are you guys to the blood on the screen effects that games like CoD do? If I used that then I could cut out the healthbar on the screen to free up more room for other things.
Heh, that's opening up a huge debate with no right answer. Health bar, screen effect; either works for me. Though in game like this... hmm. I think I'd have to say health bar. Though I am particularly fond of battlefield 3's "Small health bar in the corner + screen effect" method, I know it's not for all games. It's less about what is better, just about what "fits" more.

Maybe 1?

Thank for the command.

I can't remember if this is the official thing it stands for, but I always remembered it by "Toggle Light-Bright"

MORE STAR TREK QUOTES YAY
"Sir, the Federation does have enemies! We must seek them out!""Oh, yes. That's how it starts. But the road from legitimate suspicion to rampant paranoia is very much shorter than we think. Something is wrong here, Mr. Worf; I don't like what we have become!" - Worf and Picard"You know, there are some words I've known since I was a schoolboy: 'With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censured...the first thought forbidden...the first freedom denied--chains us all irrevocably.' Those words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie, as wisdom...and warning. The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged. I fear that today--" - PicardPicard is so damn awesome.

Just throwing in my quick two cents I suppose, hah. I could go into more detail, but have been a bit drained lately, hah.
1: The hud. It look great actually. I can't tell right now, but I might like for it to be a bit smaller. Maybe have a scaling option?
2: On the player history choices, and yes, I know I could have said something about this a long time ago, hah. But, in my opinion, when it comes to player creation choices, the best option is to keep things as general as possible. I remember another very different game I once critiqued. You could choose different starting clothes, but rather than just "Clothing 1" it was "I am a total slut!" gives you certain clothes, "I've had sex once or twice" gave you certain ones, and "I'm a virgin" gave you a certain set. The point being, is when I wanted to create my character, I might have had the idea of a virgin that dressed like she wasn't, but that option wasn't there for me. Keep things general, and never make them more specific than you have to. But then again, that's just my opinion!
And sorry it's not more detailed. DRAINED.

Apparently France Banned child pageants. Fuck yeah.
http://www.reddit.com/r/reactiongifs/comments/1mn1j7/me_and_a_friends_reaction_when_we_read_that/
For those who don't understand: the motto of France is "Liberté, égalité, fraternité" (liberty, equality, fraternity).
This isn't about liberty, it's about equality. This law was passed as part of a package on gender equality, which among other things includes equal opportunities for boys and girls in education as well as incentives for fathers to take advantage of France's maternity/paternity leaves. There is no blanket ban on pageants, the ban is on girls-only pageants that judge participants on physical beauty, the rationale being that such pageants condition girls from a young age to tie their self-worth to their attractiveness.Child pageants now require governmental authorization and breaking this law can cost the pageant organizer up to 30k € and 2 years in jail.France is pretty cool.

Another great Star Trek: TNG quote. One that sadly, hits far too close to home.
"I think, when one has been angry for a very long time, one gets used to it. And it becomes comfortable like... like old leather. And finally... it becomes so familiar that one can't remember feeling any other way."- Jean-Luc Picard

I was thinking about buying XCOM: Enemy Unknown.
Unfortunately I was too dumb to pick it up during Summer Sale and I haven't played a stategy game since Warcraft 3 so the question is: "Will I, a complete strategy noob, get enough enjoyment out of it to justify the 40 bucks?"
There is actually an upcoming, large expansion for it. Although I personally can quite enthusiastically recommend the game, I might also recommend to hold off on a purchase. Unless you are wanting it right now, wait to see what deals might come out when they release the expansion. No promises that there actually will be any though. But hey, never know. They might throw the basic, non-expansion one on a humble bundle or something to promote it. Who knows.

Though I believe, based on what I've been thinking, what I've been hearing, and given how close the poll is, a blending of both is probably going to be needed. But I'm going to wait and see how the poll goes first, before I go jumping the gun on anything.
I see what you did there.

How do you guys leave those snazzy one liners in your profile? UGH! i'm too lazy to find this out on my own. As for Emily's point on us all living in a fantasy i guess i have to agree, i don't think reality is a cruel thing so much as i feel people as individuals can imagine a better way of doing things as suppose to what we can accomplish as a whole.
If your talking about the green text when on the top right when you hover over a user's name, that's the latest post in their profile feed. To get one for yourself, just click on "profile feed" in your user profile, and leave a message there. That should work.

Hmmm, honestly, I liked the first, "basic" infected vision most. But I don't mind the other versions, but I was a little concerned about the effects "needlessly" obscuring vision. Glad to see you worked on a slightly different version. Like always, ultimately up to you.
Now... not really as an antagonist, but just to kind of offer a counter point to the weapons, hah.
If you don't mind. You said elemental weapons were added for the sake of variety, and added that it was requested to have a large amount of weapons. Also, from your blog, I've seen you group weapons, unfortunately in my opinion, into specific types of functionality, rather than simply individual weapons. Let me explain. They way I see it, there are two approaches to weapon variety: classic and modern. The way you seem to be approaching it is from a classic standpoint, where I honestly am a fan of modern, when it comes to sandbox games, multiplayer games, etc. In purely singleplayer, linear, and rpg-like games, I certainly accept the classic standpoint.
Classic approach: There are different weapons that all have a different functionality. No two weapons are the same. Whether it's the very classic mode of "basic gun," "lightning gun," "gun that shoots mines," "explosive gun," etc, or the more "modern" version of "fast firing smg," "heavy hand cannon," "sniper," etc. I suppose the easiest comparison to your game would be the L4D series. Each gun in that game is unique, and serves it's own, special purpose, no gun is like it. Even the different assault rifles are all very distinctly different. Seeing your blog post, listing the different types of weapons, make me think you might be going this route.
Modern approach: You've seen it. Call of Duty, Battlefield, and the example picture I posted a while back, most easily compared to a sandbox game like this, is the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series. No way in hell is every gun so easily distinguishable. Hell, a lot of the guns are very similar. But for the most part, each of the guns have their own different feel, and slight variations, allowing players to pick and choose.
The difference I see between the two is that the classic approach can work very well for making a very polished, "strict" sense of gunplay. Each sort of weapon has a very specific type of use it's supposed to see, a different playstyle it supports. That's fine. The problem I have with it, is that it can feel a bit restrictive, limited, and even punishing. So very often in these classic styled games, I find myself liking very few of the weapons. Which is very annoying, when it's actually a type of weapon that I wanted. But since it's the classic type, there is only that one fast firing weapon, that one hand cannon, and if you don't like the weapon they assigned to that category, tough luck. When it comes to the modern approach, it just feels to me like there is more freedom. There is a lot more picking and choosing, and a lot more comparing different weapons, wondering just which one to use. It's amazing how different a feel different weapons can have, just by some small stat changes like fire rate and recoil.
Heh, this is just my take on the whole situation. Do with it as you please. I hope it makes a little bit of sense.

I normally don't like Plato/Socrates but... wow...
"When someone has been pregnant with these in his soul from early youth, while he is still a virgin, and, having arrived at the proper age, desires to beget and give birth, he too will certainly go about seeking the beauty in which he would beget; for he will never beget in anything ugly. Since he is pregnant, then, he is much more drawn to bodies that are beautiful than to those that are ugly; and if he also has the luck to find a soul that is beautiful and noble and well-formed, he is even more drawn to this combination; such a man makes him instantly teem with ideas and arguments about virtue - the qualities a virtuous man should have and the customary activities in which he should engage; and so he tries to educate him. In my view, you see, when he makes contact with someone beautiful and keeps company with him, he conceives and gives birth to what he has been carrying inside him for ages. And whether they are together or apart, he remembers that beauty. And in common with him he nurtures the newborn; such people, therefor, have much more to share than do the parents of human children, and have a firmer bond of friendship, because the children in whom they have a share are more beautiful and more immortal."
- Diotima, from Plato's Symposium.
I suppose it's not exactly something that speaks to everyone... but when I read it... wow.

Edit: This is not related to the above but it's just so adorable and cute and awesome.

Generally the last thing that crosses my mind when I'm making a character is "What sort of ass do I want to ogle." It's usually something along the lines of "What sort of story am I going to play this time? Who am I going to be? Who are they? What's their story? What do they look like?" And yes, side objectives like "What sort of 'fun' am I in the mood for right now?" when it comes to adult games and oblivion.
I dunno. I know I shouldn't, people have the right to do what they want, for what reasons they want, but I guess the roleplayer in me always just gets pissed off whenever people say "I play as a girl because that's what ass I want to stare at, lol." I get the phrase, but fuck, it is not applicable at all. What game do you stare at the character's ass as you are playing? Hell, in a lot of games now days, with the over the shoulder cam, the view is only from the waist up. But I get it, "Who's shoulders do you think I want to stare at?" doesn't really have the same ring to it.
I also don't pick female characters because "I enjoy the female aesthetic." Both genders look fine to me, regardless of my orientation. Do I make a character that I like to look at? Sure. But do other males really have that hard of a time enjoying looking at a male character? Especially one that could simply be a representation/incarnation of their own self? Of course, I never get the whole "Ew I saw another mans face in the porn, that completely ruined it for me" complaint either.
Long story short, I play as both. Gender is just one part of the characters that I play. As for the reasons? Plenty. A part of me wants to be female. Games can be a way to exercise it. And also... why not? I play as a male. I play as a female. I'm not a mage, a warrior, and assassin, a spy, a general, a rectangle, I am not many things, yet I still play as them. Why is playing as a different gender any different? It's not really, at least not for me.
Like always, if you are different, and hold views opposing to mine, that is your right that I can always, completely respect.

Hey guys no updates this weekend, got a rather nasty cold atm, and I'm hoping if I take it easy and rest up that I can get past it by Sunday/Monday. We'll see though lol.
Health issues suck.
I currently know all too well. Hope you manage to get over it soon enough. Edit: Oh, and on the game. I certainly wasn't expecting elemental ammo to be popping up... guess this is going to be a bit more sci-fi/future tech than I was envisioning. Ah well. I still look forward to seeing how it all works, hah. It's in no way inherently a bad thing.
