  1. Vyrthur, just as he initiates combat, shouts "What treachery is this?" You have got to be kidding me. I get the devs wanted him to shout something as battle commenced, but someone needs to look a bit beyond stock phrases, or possibly take a gander at a dictionary. There was no goddamn treachery here.

Now, I am going to step back and make the assumption that I just misheard him. I don't have combat subtitles on, so I didn't read it, so it's entirely possible I just misheard it.

So... what did he shout? "Treachery" kind of sounds like "mockery" but that makes even less sense. Pagentry? Was he misusing the Dunmer insult "fetcher" perhaps? "What Fetchery is this?" indicating that he's surprised at the sheer amount of... uh, of fetchery around... nah. Fletchery? Nope. Archery? Hmm... we were there for the bow, after all, but it still doesn't make any damned sense. When we killed Harkon it would have made sense for him to shout about archery... maybe.

Okay, I must have misheard even worse. Nothing to do with _____tchery or anything that sounds like that. So what the hell did he say? "What _____ is this?" Stupidity? I can get behind that. Hostility? Nah, he's not that much of a dumbass either. Since we're looking for a single word that would reasonably make sense in the context, and since this is in English for my game, we're talking probably about no more than 20,000 possible words or so, right? I'd hate to go through them all trying to figure out which is the right one to go into the slot here.

Does anyone have combat subtitles on when fighting him? What does he say there?

    p.s.

I've noticed that I am more and more frequently breaking the fourth wall - this is turning into a person writing about a game rather than a person writing about his life. I think I'll try to stop doing that.

  2. aww, but why? You MUST update cos reasons! and stuff.

And thanks for the pic of a naked spideregg filled Serena. I didn't like my dinner that much anyway :-\

Well, okay, just for you, here's an update:

Serana and I walk through the portal together.

    How's that? :)

The reason for the anticipated lack of updates is, work is picking up.

Of course, I do often tend to overestimate things like that. Who knows, I might put six chapters up tomorrow.

    Um... nope...

But still, there may be something between now and the Solstice. ;)

  3.

I haven't gotten around to playing Dawnguard (or Dragonborn for that matter) yet. So I don't know about the whole vampire kerfaffle (apart from being randomly attacked every time I go into a town). So I shall follow your progress and see if it is sorta kinda worth it. For now I am staying firmly planted in Skyrim sans Volkihar(deeharhar)

And there are some true gems of sentences in this post. Thanks for the laughter (out loud, even)

    - Moo.

Get the mod Amorous Adventures, if you haven't. It adds a lot to the Serana experience. Fox's work is all around amazing.

I haven't added that to my load order, but I've been meaning to try it out for a while now.

  4. EDIT: Yep, I think that's it... take a look at these two .NIF files, and compare them.

Um, since I can't post pictures on a blog post, I'll go ahead and PM you with the comparison... but it looks like you just need to change the NiStringExtraData string from WeaponSword to WeaponBack. There might also be something you have to do to trigger the right animations, but I don't know.

  5. True, even though chastity is sort of diametrically opposed to what the Young Mephalians stand for. Casual sex is more the order of the day. :)

But I suppose Mephala wouldn't necessarily be averse to the idea of having slaves, so maybe a collar instead?

  6. Thank you for this... when I get a bit of free time, I'll check it out.

By now you should know how to use Blender to project a tattoo into a model and save as a texture scaled to the model's UV mesh. By doing this you can

  7. I hope Mace gets hold of the herbal medication he needs.

    (insert dead pun here)

I think they made a mistake with Arvak, his lack of skin and saddle means when you ride him you appear to be floating a couple of inches off his back, which is so angular anyway it would render it impossible.

The place is depressing but I like the Soul Cairn colour-scheme, it's reminiscent of quite a lot of british quiz shows at the moment. There might be something in that, something about dead-eyed daytime-tv audiences.

It's weird... Blackreach has a similar (but not exact) color scheme, a bit more heavy on the blue but no less dark, and yet I find the Soul Cairn to be much more oppressive. Depressing, actually. But you know, the first time I ever entered the Soul Cairn I absolutely loved it. Lasted a couple of hours before I started feeling blah about the place.

Maybe it's not the color scheme at all... maybe it's that I feel obsessively compelled to hunt down Jiub's pages, the Reaper Gem Fragments, the three spell tomes, and all the other little tidbits, and after a while it gets irritating. I ended up installing a mod that put map markers on all of Jiub's pages (along with one that puts map markers on the Dragon Priest masks and the Jewels of Barenziah).

Arvak missing a saddle is just dying for some sort of "riding a horse boner" joke.

  8. Enlarge your penis with this one weird trick! These 15 pictures of nude women will drive you wild! 10 people you love to hate! This 30 year old man paid off his credit card debt while eating this weird fruit and losing fat in just ten days or your money back on leaked photos of the most iconic photobombs that are hilarious in three months of celebrity mortgages you just won't believe!

Hmm... I don't think I've ever realized how much what I'm reading influences what I'm writing.

I've been going on a P.G. Wodehouse binge of late, and apparently some of that has crept in.

Be careful - there's some David Gemmell in my library. If Mace suddenly develops the personality of an elderly warrior past his prime yet determined to fight one last battle against long odds to bring down an evil power, you'll know what I've been doing lately.

  9. Why the hell is Dexion wearing a blindfold? If you're blind, you don't need one. I get that the developers wanted a visual cue to hand the player as to his recently acquired disability, but there's already a set of eye colors in the game that are pearly white, and can make the fellow look blind anyway. A blindfold is unnecessary and unrealistic. Just change the color form - or hell, make a duplicate NPC and swap them out - instead of tying a bit of cloth 'round his head.

Is it unnecessary and unrealistic, though? I admit I have seen blind people walking about wearing sunglasses, so I suppose there may in fact be some reason for it, what do I know? But it just seems silly.
