One of my friends girlfriends used considers herself a gamer because of farmville.

I remember there was this report recently that said women are now the biggest gamer demographic. I thought it was a little suspicious, then I found out they consider a "gamer" anyone who plays candy crush or that kim kardashian "game". That was just depressing.

What I don't get about Gamergate is if the movement is concerned about games journalism ethics then why bother with Anita Sarkeesian or Zoe Quinn at all? And why run Jenn Frank out of games journalism?

You're under the assumption that this is really about ethics in gaming journalism like they keep saying?

Opened up my bbc news app and bang first thing i see is gamergate (why cant the news be more happy instead of breaking news more bad stuff happens).

Think of it this way, the reason the news is so dark is because things are going so well these days. We have less crime and war and poverty and hunger today than at any point in history, so the news covers all the bad shit happening because it's more unusual and shocking than it used to be. Sorry if this is a little (way) off topic, I just feel like people should know that the world isn't as depressing as it seems sometimes.

Wasn't like that on the one I used, it was just a tablet in PC form, I don't think I ever did figure out how to shut it down.

I've only used Windows 8 once while I was working on someone else's computer, it was a complete mess of course, but it didn't seem any faster to me than my Windows 7 system. Even if it is a little faster, it takes you so much longer to find everything that it would at least balance out.

This Gamergate thing, I never heard of it until I saw this thread.

Like, how bout a...fish type? A laser type? Glass type? Robot type? Sausage type? The sausage type would be weak to fire, but strong against bug, cause everyone knows the best way to kill a bug is by smacking it with a sausage. I got this all figured out, they should totally hire me.

I've noticed gamergaters only have 3 arguments for why this totally isn't about sexism: no true scottsman, a feminist conspiracy, and it's just a coincidence that all examples of rampant gaming journalism corruption in the past were pretty much ignored until a woman could be blamed. All are pretty weak debate tactics in general. If the simplest explanation is that this IS about sexism, and all arguments to the contrary rely on convoluted conspiracy or coincidences, then...well you know what they say about the simplest explanation right?

There's a reason why the Southern Poverty Law Center, the renown experts on hate groups, have officially declared gamergate a hate group. Blame it on the "trolls" all you like, but if that's the case, the trolls won, gamergate IS the trolls now, a handful of reasonable people within doesn't make up for that. I kinda feel sorry for the reasonable people, it's like joining Al-Queda thinking it's a community service organization, then having to make excuses for why they're totally not terrorists, and all those suicide bombers are not true Al-Quedans, and they are just trolls trying to make them look bad

As for mine, it should be pretty obvious who it is, and there's nothing to explain really, I just like it.

I got some death threats when my mod was shown on youtube, more people saying I should kill myself and such, but either way I didn't really care, and I did a lot less to piss people off than Zoe and Anita did. A friend of mine got online death threats for saying something bad about some fuckin sports team once, but because she's a woman she also got rape threats. She didn't take any of it serious either though. My point is, it's not hard to get internet death threats, so I find it extremely hard to believe they didn't get any and they made this all up. That's exactly what the shitty pricks behind all this want you to believe anyway.

edit: and just for the record, I can't stand Anita Sarkeesian, she's the feminist equivalent of Jack Thompson, a talking head with a pretty ugly persona who wants to cause trouble for people she doesn't give two shits about. 

The difference is, other than Jack Thompson being arguably worse and more ignorant and hateful, is that Jack Thompson doesn't get death threats, as far as I've ever heard. I've never heard anyone threaten to shoot up a school over Jack Thompson, then for other people to immediately pass off the threats as Thompson's own doing. I don't hear endless complaining about Jack Thompson all day, despite trying to blame videogames for every problem in the world. Can you think of any other difference between Thompson and Sarkeesian? Something more physical perhaps?

I also seem to vaguely remember some controversy surrounding that Kane and Lunch game, where someone was fired for giving it a bad review...or they were bribed to give it good reviews, something like that, I don't really remember, all I know is it was easily a much bigger violation of gaming journalism integrity than whatever the fuck Zoe Quinn was accused of doing. But it got about 2% of the attention this whole issue got and everyone forgot about it rather quickly, obviously because there was no vagina to blame it all on. Just one of the many many reasons I've been pretty much tuning out all the anus brains who have been bitching about Quinn but want everyone to believe this is just about gaming journalism and blah blah whatever, nobody believes you idiots, shut up and go fuck your anime body pillows.

And as for Sarkeesian, I just really really don't care. I agree that what she's doing is ridiculous and pointless, but why should anyone really care? What effect is it gonna have on anything? Until I hear about how what she's doing is somehow halting the production of Fallout 4, I just really couldn't care less.

Yeah, shit like that has been getting super annoying. I didn't like the gamergate douchebros any more than any other decent human being would, but what a lot of pretentious hipsters have been shouting down from up on their high horses over this whole issue is that gamers are all woman-hating basement-dwelling parasites. Not specifically the 4chan turds or whoever started this shit, just gamers in general. That's like saying everyone who watches movies is an asshole. Video games don't appeal to a specific type of person, it's just a form of media like music or TV. Calling "gamers" anything is slightly more ridiculous than stereotyping any race, country, religion, or even gender, because all of those are more likely to have more things in common than "gamers", who make up people of all ages and nationalities.

So basically, people who bitch about gamers sound as insufferable and transparent to me as the people who never miss an opportunity to announce that they don't own a TV, they just want to feel superior to everyone, and it's pretty pathetic.

So, this is weird. For the past week or so, I've had this Foo Fighters song stuck in my head constantly, I don't know which one, but it's a pretty popular one. It's weird cause I don't listen to em, I mean I like em and all, who doesn't? Just not quite enough to collect and listen to their music. Anyway, then 2 days ago, I woke up and suddenly couldn't remember the song to save my balls. All day I was trying to think of it, but instead all I could think of was all their other songs. I went to sleep still trying to think of it. Then the next day, as soon as I woke up, the first thought in my head as soon as I gained consciousness was that song!
