A little warning to mod creators of non adult mods....
Ceit replied to LordNecris's topic in General Discussion
I don't think so at all. It is easy to modify the skyrim exe file to delete the steam dependency. All this stuff would be available on torrents and other websites. My bet is that mods like skyUI will soon find that other people will make similar mods available for for free and compatible with everything or that people will just copy their work and upload it elsewhere for people to download. Similar things have gone down in other gaming communities but in the end I believe the trouble all started with "Donations". As soon as the corporations saw that people would pay for mods using their assets and framework they had no choice but to protect their products. A lot of the comments from people here are very immature and ignorant of how business works. As soon as people started donating money then the writing was on the wall. The truth is that people believe they own their mods and they are incorrect. These gaming companies provide jobs. And because of that the laws and politicians who create the laws will always side with companies that provide jobs. Jobs is the most important thing in life. Without them we all suffer. Gaming is one of the industries that all States, cities want. They are fighting for gaming companies to open offices in their cities because of the jobs. Bethesda is a company and they need to make money. All the mods made for their game are owned by Bethesda and if you don't believe then I think you will have a rude awakening in the next few years. The letter from Steam's lawyers to the modder who got burned is proof and also just look at Skyrim and Fallout 3 and you will see all sorts of models that were all taken from mods that were made available for mass download on the nexus. As the law stands, and if you read and understand what you agreed to when you downloaded the games onto your computer, is that the gaming company owns everything. If you make a model for their game and offer it online for mass download on the nexus or even here at LL then you have given up ownership rights. If you want to argue that then get a lawyer and I hope you have a lot of money because you will have to argue it in Europe and the world court where international copy right cases in this theatre are held and decided. As far as the future is concerned; if you don't like what is happening THEN SHUT UP AND STOP BUYING GAMES FROM STEAM because that is the only way to get big business to listen. I have heard that there are petitions going around and they are going to need MILLIONS of signatures for it to have any effect. Still, it is interesting to see what will happen. Already many big mod authors are opting in, and my prediction is that many more will too. As it stands now I only see this getting bigger unless the modding community gets organized. As far as Darkprick is concerned; I was laughing as he was setting himself up as the white night but in his posts you can read between the lines that he is only upset that he is unable to get in on the action because Valve and Bethesda were taking 75% and that left nothing for anybody else to offer competition. The fact is, DARKPRICK SUPPORTS THIS BUSINESS MODEL. He would sell everybody out in a second if they called him today and offered him a seat at the table. -

Real-time update - I was just contacted by Valve's lawyer. He stated that they will not remove the content unless "legally compelled to do so", and that they will make the file visible only to currently paid users. I am beside myself with anger right now as they try to tell me what I can do with my own content. The copyright situation with Art of the Catch is shades of grey, but in Arissa 2.0's case, it's black and white; that's 100% mine and Griefmyst's work, and I should be able to dictate its distribution if I so choose. Unbelievable. LMAO This is what happens when you get in bed with a corporation. Still I think we can all expect that the CS will not be free in the future and that the era of free modding will be forever changed. -
I gotcha, no worries but going back and reading her last post I don't think she took it as minor as you're describing it now... but ya, it's all good here So where can we find Ewi's mods now. I wasn't a big fan of most of them but he did release a vault 22 (i think that is the number... the one with all the plants) that looked really sweet. His mods have to be popping up somewhere... maybe an Asian board? It seems to me a minor thing to ban someone for...

I don't think Kimy is pinning that all on the Nexus alone? Come on, the topic of this thread is about the Nexus and not all other forums. This generation is sometimes referred to the "Like Generation" and child psychologists are dealing with children and adolescences who show serious depression when they don't get enough "Likes" on facebook and other internet places. Imo all these "Like" and "Endorse" buttons should be removed. It's silly and mostly just a popularity contest. Anyone can just look at the Nexus Image share and you'll see the same group of people in the top 20 all the time. Very rarely will an unknown break in the top 20 and often there are better pics that are ignored. If a person becomes socially accepted and joins in the "Image Share Mafia" then very soon they start to receive more endorsements because the other image share users expect that they will get their endorsements returned. It is absolutely ridiculous. 4 years ago or so over at tesadventures we purposely uploaded terrible and ugly pics and swarmed the image share with endorsements to get them in the top ten because we could. The regulars at the image shares, even before they post an image automatically start with 10-15 endorsements. I say scrap they whole system

and there are other people who are just having fun with a little joke. Maybe next time you should follow your own advice eh? -
Ya I love greasemonkey. I personally don't write javascript but since I am involved in beta testing for mozilla I have access to many other beta testers personal scripts for it. Once I started with greasemonkey the entire internet change for me. I stll run all the other add-ons because I have tested years ago and I see no reason to get rid of them. I love requestpolicy. I like it more than noscript but it is not being update any more (last I heard) and other add-ons have progressed to almost make it obsolete at this point. I'll have to sign in to my mozilla account and check my notes. However since I don't have the time to beta test add-ons any more I just have stuck with the set up I have been using for the past 5 years. Here is some of what I currently use on this browser (Cyberfox) I am currently using now but on my work laptop I use more and my other computer I use less as it is set up for music and video; ad block plus***recommended greasemonkey***must have ad blocker for gmail***recommende all in one side bar*** must have avast web rep - or WOT better privacy***used this for years, must have certificate patrol *** awesome! cipher fox*** awesome! cookie controller- don't use anymore because I just block all 3rd party cookies and block the rest through ghostery dnssec validator***awesome! download statusbar dr web anti virus link checker***must have ghostery***must have https finder***recommended https everywhere***must have java console***recommended java quick starter no script***must have nosquint perspectives***awesome! requestpolicy***as we both agree this is awesome! wot lastpass paid subscription <SNIP>

Ya you are right it is not new; I copied this post from another site and I am just sharing the info with you. FYI I did write that original post around 4 moths ago. I never noticed their request to turn off ad blockers before that. However when I saw the ad to purchase a membership to get rid of their ad I just want to say "FUCK YOU ASSHOLES" because that is how I feel every time I am forced to use their service. I am a long time member over at the add block plus forums so all the information I posted is not new unless you never heard it before eh? Still this information is more about the power of Greasemonkey and what it does and can do. As far as having other add-ons that are redundant, that is just a smart thing to do. It is why I run a virus scan, malware bytes scan, spybot scan every moth and scan all my links with dr. web, and virus total and then scan all files once I download them and again once I extract the information from them. These type of "Best Practices" and redundancies are what smart people do. I recommend that everyone practice these type of redundancies.

Is this what this website has come to, Harry Potter fan threads. What's next, Justine Beaver sing alongs? -
Well I treat every incursion into the nexus as if I am a member of seal team 6. Go in, download mod and get the fuck out as fast as possible. I don't even upvote on the image share any more. So have you guys noticed the recent change in policy over at the Nexus and other websites regarding Add blocking software like AddBlock and AddBlock Plus? If you use that add on then you will have noticed that the Nexus now recognizes that you are blocking their advertisements. They actually place an advertisement of their own that asks you to turn the add blocker off with some sappy story that they need the money. Regardless they are interfering with the space on your screen and in truth it is an advertisement to buy a membership. For this reason as a long time beta tester for Firefox Nightly 64bit and Waterfox browsers I will tell you how to get rid of it and enjoy a full screen without annoying advertisements. You need to have add block plus http://addons.mozill...n/adblock-plus/ install Greasemonkey (for firefox) or tampermonkey (chrome) http://addons.mozill...n/greasemonkey/ Then go to http://github.com/re...-adblock-killer Go to step 3... and install the the 5 scripts in greasemonkey / tampermonkey They should auto install but if they don't you can even copy and paste them in. it is pretty simple to get it to work. That's it! No more annoying adds by the nexus to buy their memberships. And it also blocks other websites from doing the same. Remember that this is not 100%. The five scripts that Greasemonkey is running use the most common methods that websites use to see who is using an add blocker. Most of these administrators really don't know how to do this correctly so they never change their operations. This is the reason why Greasemonkey works. There are some webmasters who change their scripts often (monthly/weekly) so to as avoid what Greasemonkey is doing. The Nexusmods is not one of those websites. Besides, new scripts can and are always being written. By they way, these scripts will auto update through greasemonkey depending on your security options. I have mine set to inform me of updates but not install until I accept the update. But then again I use 15 security add-ons on my browser. I don't suggest you use this on every website and forum. Some forums you may want to support and click on a few ads then you can easily play around with the option settings or manually turn it on and off as you like. However Java Script remains the biggest security risk on the internet (FBI report) and malicious code can easily be hidden is video and audio advertisements. Gaming and Porn sites remain big targets for hackers. Puts a big bullseye on this site but I kinda think that most of these hackers are members here

Although you keep trying to say that LL was and is not the place to come to after you have been banned I have to call you on that because I have been coming to wolflore and LL since Oblivion was released and a large amount of members have found this place after being banned or after having theeir friends banned. You may not like that or like what that may imply but I myself heard of these places after my friends were treated so poorly by the nexus. And yes you are correct that many posters in that old thread were kids who deserved to be banned and yes it was also fun to call them out. LL, as you have mentioned has gone through different, for lack of a better word fazes since Ashal opened it up to host LoversPK after the change in management over at Wolflore. It was a really nice, almost unknown community back then but I think we would agree that somewhere in the later half of Oblivion's success and as the Nexus banned more and more people LL grew in popularity and usage. Still back then it was very underground so to speak however since the release of Skyrim LL is a completely different place. I am not saying it is better or worse but different. I would also put out there that I would bet that at least 1/4 of the members today that have joined LL since the release of Skyrim are below the age of 18. As far as my last point I stand by it. The Nexus makes a lot of money from ads. LL is, whether you want to admit it or not, recognized as an adult gaming community. It is also recognized as a community that supports rape culture. This is why Ashal has always had difficulty getting advertisers (that combined with the child race mods) and it has only been in recent years that LL has had consistent advertising. My point was and is that the Nexus has a good thing going and they want to keep their image a little cleaner than LLs. I think this is a very fair statement. I also remember years ago when Ashal first asked people to remove all the child races because he was having difficulty finding advertisers. After a month or two he retracted that rule and allowed the child races back. Mostly because people complained and left. They eventually came back though after the new rules were changed back. I also remember the long letter he wrote to the community saying that he would never try to change the community again. Well I don't hold him to that. Things change. Change is a part of life and the community is not the same today as it was back then. I am sure that Ashal has spent a lot of his own money keeping this place afloat especially in the early years. I for one have always appreciated Ashal and the LL community he and others created. I believe that LL's success has always been because of Ashal's open mindedness and acceptance of different lifestyles and that LL has always been a safe place for people in the "lifestyle" to come and chat about gaming and sex. People whether they were gay, lesbian, bdsm or other fetishism could and still can come here and openly be who they are or want to be. This is LL's greatest strength and it is what separates LL from the Nexus. LL's core community vibe has always been strong whereas the Nexus has no real community left any more.

I am pleased you brought that up Halstrom; the pinned banning thread is absolutely the dumbest thing I have ever seen in any legitimate forum. Also their practice of bullying members that have been banned or given a warning like; 5 moderators showing up on your forum page or actually starting arguments and other moderators joining in and obviously supporting their co-moderators. They are really pathetic and I believe that these moderators are miserable in the real lives and come on line and take out their frustrations on unsuspecting children. Recently they have posted a Job Position Opening for Community Advisor or something like that and the first thing I thought was that they have obviously realized, they have no real community any more. 6 years ago I would enter the Chat Room and there would be 50-70 people in there at all times. Modders would have their own rooms to talk to their fans. The forums were filled with threads!!!! Now everybody is afraid to do anything there because if a certain undead character woke up and someone pissed in his cornflakes... well watch out. I also know for a fact (it has happened to 3 confirmed people) that they will go into you PMs and read them. If they find something that they don't like or disagree they will ban you. Especially if they don't like you. My 2 cents on why they don't allow LL to be mentioned is because of money. It is geared towards teenagers and families and they don't want to be associated with porn. If they start hosting mods like sexout and Lovers then people would be link and talking about LL and then their whole image thing they have going is out the window. They make money from advertising which Ashal knows from experience, you don't want to mess with that. These type of sites are expensive to run. If anything I believe the Nexus will very soon become unusable with adblockers and people will have to turn them off to access the website. I am waiting for someone to start a kickstarter already to challenge them. I have an extra 3k to invest

Hahaha... It can't be better than Google because it is Google! All ixquick is doing is using the Google through it's own servers thereby protecting your privacy. Basically you are telling it what to search for and it using google to search for it and it then passes the results to you. The difference is that you don't get the top search results and paid search ads that place certain results on top. That can be good or bad depending on what you are searching for. If you are a privacy person then continue using it but as soon as you click on a link or even copy the address your own service provider records where you are going anyway. All you are doing is preventing Google from paying people who use add-sense. Google still monitors ixquick's search enquiries. The end result for you the user is that you won't be bombarded with advertising based off of your own internet searches.
