    A chill wind follows you in as you stumble your way back into Breezehome. Your robes scorched around the edges from the dragon's fiery breath. A familiar face follows you inside and shuts the door behind her.

    You walk to your seat besides the hearthfire and you carefully start to remove your robes. The sound of footsteps racing towards you echo through the quiet night and you pause as she hugs you from behind.

    Alex seemed like a busy man. I had read on the forums that he'd only recently joined the group that was organizing the slave-market. So it didn't strike me as surprising that he was the one doing most of the running around. Eventually he had brought over two dozen slaves. Thirteen of whom I ended up sharing the holding pen with. On one trip, Alex had helped me put my armbinder back on. I was grateful for this as it raised my immersion a bit, but it also had a 'fun' side-effect.     Guards are easily persuaded to look the other way. Irileth isn't a mere guard... Irileth is the House Carl of Dragonsreach Keep, the personal bodyguard and right hand of the Jarl. I don't know it it is her Dunmer origin, but she is the kind of woman that prefers introductions at swordarm's length... With a sword drawn... A very sharp sword... While she held her immaculate blade perfectly aligned with my throat she asked me who I was. Had it been anyone else I would have asked; "Don't you know who I am?", but I like my head attached to my body... Truthfully, even Paarthurnax's first appearance hadn't shaken me quite like Irileth... Who ever thought of restricting entry to Dragonsreach certainly put the right person in charge of enforcing it. When I mentioned my name Irileth sheathed her blade. "So you are the one that lifted the Jarl's spirit. I welcome you to Dragonsreach Keep, but be warned stranger... Assassins do not end up in the dungeon... They end op on a pyre with a sword wound through their heart."

    So... Dinner for two with Balgruuf, the Jarl. While I hadn't eaten this well in... Forever... I found myself distracted. The conversation was pleasant, or as near as you can get with the civil war weighing down the mood rather heavily. Pleasantries aside...
    Before me sat a different man than I had met yesterday, but even with the renewed spark in his eyes I felt sadness in his voice.
    "When did you lose her?" I asked, a bit harsh and a bit upfront, but I always found people liked to open up to me.
    He looked hurt. "Why would you ask?" He replied.
    "Because, you have the same look in your eyes as my uncle after my aunt died."
    Balgruuf sat motionless for a moment and sighed. "Four-hundred and twenty-nine days ago. Neither by sword nor assassin's blade. Her heart just stopped. The only consolation is that she didn't suffer."

    "So Four-hundred and twenty-nine days to the day... And let me guess, you have yet to find someone patch the hole in your heart."
    "When you spoke courage and wisdom you moved me." He replied
    "I'm sorry my Jarl, but my heart belongs to another." I told him and stood up from the table. He might have though I was leaving, but I surprised him when I dropped my skirt and unveiled my chastity belt... My guardian...

    Dear Diary,



    Forget the Daedra... They are not plotting against me as much as the divines themselves... Mara in particular these past few days... It started with 'Hello', as it always does. Adrianne Avenicci is a feisty Imperial woman. She is married to Ulfberth War-Bear and this is where I started to suspect Mara having a jab at recruiting me for her cause... As the Goddess of love, she is probably incensed with me for keeping Hadmir on a leash this long... Lady, I love him in my own way! Anyway...

    Adrianne and Ulfbreth seemed to have little fire between them the day I walked in to Warmaiden's. Sure, they were intent on selling me their wares, but by the setting of the sun they went their separate ways until nightfall was but a memory. They might still sleep in the same bed, but I didn't really feel the love in the air.

    I spent most of the first day tending the smelter and brewing a batch of Corundum metal, a tedious task at best. I can now shovel charcoal like the heroes of old though... The next day, Yesterday, Adrianne had set up a batch of steel composite, which apparently turned out very nice by the end of the day. It earned me the 'patience' award from her and I felt she was warming to me... It might have been the smelter messing with my head though.

    Adrianne invited me to her house when the day drew to a close. Ulfbreth was nowhere to be found. I guessed she just enjoyed my company, so we spent the evening talking... Childhoods, current events, aspirations, hearts desires... She wanted to become a swordsmith for as long as she could stand on her feet. Her father was apparently the Steward to Whiterun, an important and prestigious position.

    Ulfbreth returned before midnight and I said my goodbyes for the night. Adrianne seemed a bit sad at me leaving, but I didn't think much of it at the time. Ulfbreth looked... Well... Not exactly drunk, but Nords tend to weather brew well...



    When I returned to the inn, I sat down at Hulda's bar beside a Nord man with long, fair hair and a man with short hair. Both looked surprised when I ordered three tankards of Nord Mead. Hulda placed them in front of me first, but I waved two towards the pair sitting beside me.
    "Two for the pair of long faces, just one for me Hulda." I said and collapsed on the counter.
    "Why you..." The short haired mountain of a man said, but he was silenced by his companion.
    "Hrongar, there is no need to be offended. This young lady is right. We are bringing down the mood somewhat." He gestured towards the rest of the inn. Everyone was unusually quiet for a normal evening. Even that lecher of bard seemed out of songs at that moment.

    "So, what brings you to Whiterun stranger?" The long haired man asked.
    I told him I was traveling back home, to Hjaalmarch Hold. When he asked where I had been I told him I had been on a pilgrimage to High Hrothgar. I wasn't far off to be honest...
    "Ah, the seven thousand steps. I have also made that journey. High Hrothgar was like another world back then, probably even more so now. Did you know the Dragonborn discovered his gift here in Whiterun?"
    "The Dragonborn? You knew him?"

    "I know the Dragonborn, yes. You speak of him as if you know more of his fate though."
    "I heard he defeated Alduin and that he hasn't returned to the Greybeards yet."
    The man raised his eyebrow. "And where have you heard that? If I may ask."
    "I spoke to the Greybeards..."
    "Did you now? Then they have started teaching the way of the voice again? Do they accept students again?"
    "I don't know. They did say these troubled times require wisdom..." I said and raised my tankard and shouted "Here is to the wise! Here is to the brave! To Skyrim!"

    Words are the fuel. They fuel the spirit of man... All those present at the inn simultaneously raised their drink to Skyrim at my shout...
    "Your words could inspire a battalion, nay, a legion... Yes, Skyrim will endure. Thank you, friend, for raising our spirits. I would be honored if you would join us for dinner tomorrow evening."
    "Sure thing. I'm probably going to be spent after another day at the smeltery, so don't expect great feats of inspiration, alright?" I said and extended my hand.
    "The name is Thermis. Nice to make your acquaintance."

    The man accepted my hand and shook it with a fair grip. "The pleasure is all mine, Thermis, My name is Balgruuf the Greater. I am the Jarl of Whiterun Hold."
    So there I was... exchanging pleasantries with the Jarl... Though I suspected I'd trump his surprise by quite a margin the following day...



    To my surprise, Adrianne didn't have me tend the smeltery today. Instead, she told me to help her around the house for the day. Ulfberth was busy sharpening a dozen swords... It felt like a set up from the moment I set foot in the shop, but curious... Adrianne contrieved a reason for me to follow her upstairs... Gods what is it with all the lonely hearts! Ulfberth, man the fuck up!

    I guess she was relieved when I grabbed her from behind and pressed her against the wall. Under her shallow breath she stammered; "Please... please..."
    "Please what?" I asked and felt her squirm around my fingers which were making their way towards her crotch.
    The what soon became clear when I failed to slip my fingers into her...

    Where there should have been a welcoming opening, I felt a series of rings and something that felt like familiar and infuriating... a lock... In a swift move I dragged her over to their bed and dumped her onto it. Her skirt was off in mere moments. Before me lay a woman with pierced labia... the piercings had been used to lock her entrance away. She looked sad about my reaction.

    "Why? Who? When?" I asked her and she turned her head away from me.
    "Slavers kidnapped me when I was traveling. Ulfbreth came and killed them, but they had already mutilated me like this."
    She looked like she could break down in tears at any moment, but I picked her up from the bed and hugged her, to her surprise. I backed off a pace and dropped my cloak, revealing the collar I had been hiding for nearly two weeks.
    "Bandits... I was taken during a raid on my home some time ago. I don't know how long I have been away, but It has been quite a journey." I told her and she hugged me tight.
    "I was going to ask you to remove this in exchange for a bit of labor. But you are in luck... If you have the lockpicks I can try and rid you of that lock."

    Before I knew what was happening she had run off and returned with two dozen lockpicks...
    "So this whole cold marriage thing is because of this blasted lock?" I asked while probing the lock."
    "Ulfbreth never talks about it, but he's crying on the inside. He blames himself for not being there when I needed him most. He is wrong though... He was there when it mattered... But try telling that to a stubborn Nord." Adrianne responds and quickly covers her mouth.
    "Keep it up lady and I'll stuff that soulgem you keep under your pillow where the sun doesn't shine..." I said in an attempt at levity.
    "I wish you could..." Adrianne responded to my surprise.
    "If only I could properly reward Ulfbreth for saving me, but allas... He is too big for my... other hole... and my mouth for that matter..."

    With an audible click the lock released, breaking the seal on Adrianne's life. Tear sprang from her eyes and she is about to start crying me a river, but I pressed a finger to her lips.
    "Wait here a moment... I'll be right back... Hold that thought!" I told her and rushed downstairs. Outside, I dragged Ulfbreth from the grindstone and pushed him inside the shop. He looked rather befuddled at me until I pointed upstairs and said "Go. Now!" Sheepishly he followed my instruction while I locked the door to the shop.

    When I arrived upstairs both Adri and Ulf were in tears... Hugging and kissing and crying... "I'll show myself out" I thought to myself and went back downstairs, exiting through the backdoor. "Another couple fixed... Seriously Mara... I don't remember signing up for this..." I mutter to myself when I take a seat under the Gildergreen, one of Kyne's blessed trees and the main reason pilgrims come to Whiterun. A priest of Talos is preaching nearby, but I care not... Nobody seems to care...



    Before me a couple argues about some old sword while I write this... I'll have to put them on my To-Do-list or I fear I might be in for some divine retribution...
    Anyway... Dinner at Dragonsreach tonight... I wonder if either Balgruuf or Hrongar needs fixing... I've got my eye on you Mara...

    I turn to the girls in the holding pen.
    "Hi, I'm Numenor. Nice to meet you." I say with an inviting smile in the hopes a pleasant conversation to which Seventeen responds; "Hello Nume, I'm Dannika and this is..."
    "Rachel" Twelves cuts in and points at me... "Cover yourself up! Do you really have to wave that around all the time?"
    I give her a bemused look. "Cover myself how? I don't really have any choice in the matter, do I?"
    She looks insulted and rushes over to me. Carefully avoiding my front, she tugs on my arm and spins me around.
    "I'll take the armbinder off so you can cover up yourself!" She says and starts releasing the straps.
    I protest, but I'm not exactly able to resist her and keep my balance at the same time...

    "And what do you think you are doing? Twelve." A sharp voice says.
    Twelve stops and we turn to look at the source of the command. At the gate stands an imposing figure; A woman dressed in blue, camo pants. She has her long hair tied in a single braid and she covers her eyes with aviator sunglasses. She doesn't have a top on, but her ample breast are covered with a special forces double tool-belt. In her hand is a crop I recognize as a nasty piece of work. It has a very fine tip, which signifies sharp pain to me.
    "No touching other merchandise, Twelve." She says and grabs Twelve by the arm. "I'll give you a swift lesson in obedience, step outside..."

    She attempts to drag Twelve out of the pen, but I intervene.
    "You are in the way Five... I don't appreciate that..." She sneers and releases Twelve.
    "Pardon me Ma'am, but It was my fault. I interrupted master Alex before he could tell them the rules. I take responsibility for failing to follow the rule."
    "Is that so? Well... You're going to regret that in a moment... Twenty lashes should adjust your obedience sufficiently. Twelve, take off his armbinder."
    "Ma'am..." Twelve says and continues where she stopped.
    "Now, Stand out here in the open for Mistress Astrid... Hands behind your head."

    I raise my hands and before I can steel my mind she hits my bottom. It feels like I'm being stabbed... It makes me flinch.

    Seventeen is the first to speak. "How was it?" She asks.

    Whiterun was a sight for sore eyes, I'll admit. People I had met in the past were still around for the most part, the hold looked like not much had changed and you really appreciate a warm bed after a day sitting in a carriage. From Ivarstead, the ride had been uneventful. The mountain pass to the ruins of Helgen was cold and it snowed most of the way. Beinkr, the carriage driver, was prepared to a fault for this though. A blanket and a bottle of mead in exchange for some dirty talk and a bit of a grope when we got to Riverwood. I guess he didn't want to push his luck. Riverwood... Nowhere did the civil war seem so far away as Riverwood. What is prosperity, but the lack of poverty.

    The road to Whiterun was as uneventful as the carriage ride. I met a traveling bard and asked if he knew anything about a bard called Lunerio. He told me to ask the dean of history, Giraud Gemane, at the Bards College in Solitude. Why did Solitude still sound so far away... Homesickness struck like a log to the face as I bid the bard farewell. For the first time in days, the collar around my neck felt heavy. Still a reminder of things past and somehow foreboding...

    Following the White river down to the plains of Whiterun Hold, I soon ended up on a vantage point. From there I could see vast plains stretched out before me and the hold of Whiterun, seated prominently upon its hill. The sun was departing when I walked into the Bannered Mare Inn. With little gold to spend I asked the innkeeper, Hulda, if I could spend the night and work off the tab tomorrow. Hulda was receptive to this, but she wanted my weapon as a deposit until I repaid her. Not a bad deal I guess.

    "I passed through Helgen on the way over here. One can only imagine what he has been through." I told Hulda, but to be honest... I knew, of sorts...

    The bed was divine... Sleep, take me! I'm yours...



    When morning came I started working off my debt to Hulda. Chopping wood, serving customers to the inn food and drinks, cleaning the floor... menial tasks... Somehow these were most relaxing. I worked up about three days of rent and expenses by the time night fell. Like in Ivarstead I was paid in favors, which suited me just fine. A favor can't be picked from your pocket...

    Tomorrow I'll visit Warmaiden's smithy and gauge if the blacksmith is inclined to remove this blasted collar from my neck... She seemed reasonable enough when I walked past her shop and overheard her telling one of the Battle-borns to quit riding her for more swords.

    I think I'll be better off not telling people I am Dragonborn... Even though they are my kinsmen, all of the inhabitants of Ivarstead suddenly address as if I am some kind of deity... It honestly makes me feel like a sham...

    "Are you serious? What makes you think I am hungry?" Mokudul scoffed.
    Finte raised her head, but kept it bowed to avoid meeting his eyes. "Finte hate bad man. You kill bad man. Finte like you. Finte yours." She stammered in a broken voice. She had not spoken in a year now. It would have only earned her a beating.

    Moku raised an eyebrow. "And what makes you think I am not a bad man, hmmm?" She raised her eyes to meet his. "You kill bad man. You not kill Finte. Finte thank good man."
    "Ha! You have a good head on your shoulders. Well alright... If you are mine, then take care of something for me." He raised his kilt revealing a monster. The comparison 'hung like a horse' should have been; 'like a horse who is hung like Mokudul.'

    To his amusement Finte scurried off into the woods after she had seen the beast. Moku laughed and gobbled up the broth. Few had the capacity to handle him, let alone a mere human. His amusement turned to surprise when she returned though. In her hands she had a dozen plants. She quickly boiled them on the fire and poured the broth in another bowl. With a rock she pounded and ground the broth until is was thick and gelatinous.

    Do the patterns in the stars tell us who we are and do we really want to know?


    The Greybeards gave me a book written by Jurgen Windcaller, their founder. It was a dictionary of sorts. Each page told a story three times. One in Deykel, written symbols, one in Pelnix, transcribed words, and one in Rotun, common translation. Reading the first story aloud caused a smile on Arngeir's, otherwise solemn, face. It turned out to be the story from the waystones.

    With every story in the book a deeper understanding of Dovahzul opened up new Rotmulaag, words of power. Force, Fire, Life... Master Arngeir adressed me when I said my goodbyes.
    "What will you do with your gift? A Thu'um sparked all-out civil war and a Thu'um vanquished Alduin, the World-Eater. What will your Thu'um say?"
    "Wuth keizaal neilaas, Old Skyrim survives." I answered after a brief moment of contemplation. "Old man Iverrig used to say that. Skyrim will always be and so will we."

    "A good answer, though as Dragonborn, there is no right answer. Maybe with your prowess the language will set our people back on the path of enlightenment."
    "I want to learn the language, but I have another priority right now." I said and showed Master Arngeir the collar around my neck.
    He nodded and bid me farewell. "Sky above, voice within. Dovahkiin."


    The road down the seven thousand steps was shorter than I could remember. There were no pilgrims traveling up the stairs even though the weather was fair. When I reached Ivarstead at the bottom of the stairs I was greeted by a rather dismal sight. On the road lay a dead guard, up against the inn sat a barely alive one, the roof of the inn had partially collapsed, The farmhouse door had been knocked out and people were running around... I saw Klimmek in the distance. He was holding his arm which was apparently bleeding.

    "Klimmek, what happened? Who did this?" I ask when I had caught up with him.
    "Bandits. Those bastards took Fastred. I couldn't stop them. I tried... Oh, Fastred." Tears rolled down his face.
    "Where did they go? And how many?" I asked while I grabbed the book of Deykel. One of the stories had caught my eye earlier. It was called Jul wo kriist, the man who stood. The word described in the story seared into my mind, Ahkrin, Courage.
    "They headed for Nilheim tower. They have been there for weeks, but they have always stayed away... There were four of them. The guards were no match for them and we were all unarmed... I couldn't do anything when they took Fastred away... I will never forgive myself..."

    I had picked up one of the guardsman's swords. I pushed it into his hands and applied a healing touch to his wounded arm. He looked me in the eyes and was probably about to ask me what we were going to do, but I steadied him with both hands and said; "Klimmek, I don't know what this will do, but trust me alright."
    He nodded, still confused. As I formed the word on my tongue, I could feel a fire roaring in my heart. "Ahkrin!"
    Klimmek drew a deep breath and closed his eyes. When he opened them again you could see a changed man.

    "I'm coming Fastred!" He shouted, turned and began to run to where, I guess, Nilheim tower was. I quickly followed suit.
    A brisk jog to somewhere on the other side of the lake brought us to a decrepit tower. Fastred could be heard, screaming her lungs out... Two of the bandits were busy trying to have their way with her, but they had not gotten far. Klimmek and I had a slight element of surprise... There were just three bandits immediately present. Klimmek kicked the one that was on top of Fastred off of her with a sickening punt to the ribs. The one that was restraining her hands looked up, but was instantly decapitated. Klimmek was feeding directly of his own courage. The word of power had only put him in touch with his Atmoran heritage. Before the first bandit could get up Klimmek had grabbed hold of him and with his bare hands he snapped his neck.

    I dispatched the third bandit with Friend's Razor by plunging it into his neck, through his heart. The fourth one appeared too far away from me to interrupt him while he drew an arrow and aimed for Klimmek.
    The words came easier this time... I shouted: "FO KRAH DIIN!!"
    Klimmek and Fastred turned to see the bandit freeze in place. The arrow fell from his hands. A mere moment later and the arrow had been on its way to them.
    "You are... Dragonborn..." Klimmek gasped as I walked to the frozen bandit. With a single strike from big rock I had picked up on the way he shattered into a thousand pieces...

    The way back was quiet. Night had fallen, vengeance had been exacted, the maiden had been rescued and love was blossoming. Apparently Klimmek had been unable to express his love for Fastred for some time now. We were all covered in blood... Back at Ivarstead I parted ways with the two lovebirds for the night. Things were going to happen which I had no business interfering with. I suspect that 9 months from now Ivarstead will grow in population. Boti offered a bed to me for the night. An offer which I accepted with both hands.

    Life continues. One thing that life on the road revolves around is gold and I have nearly none left. Thankfully people always have favors that need doing. Thus my morning was spent chopping wood for the locals. Boti, the woman that I had seen arguing with a man, her husband Jofthor, told me about how Ivarstead was becoming a bit of a backwater. She also told me of her daughter, Fastred. By Ysmir, what is it with all these damsels? Where are the men? Apparently there were men... Klimmek, a trader, fisherman and part-time courier, and Bassianus, a pretentious prat... Klimmek appeared to have confidence issues, Bassianus just had issues...

    Coincidentally I had met Klimmek in the inn. He seemed like a nice guy... I thought maybe he'd have some fresh fish for sale when he got back from the lake. Sadly he wasn't in a trading mood, but he said he would let me have some fish if I did him a favor and climbed to the temple on the slopes of the Throat of the World... The Seven Thousand Steps that led up to the home of the Greybeards had never been on my list of things to see before I met my ancestors, but I felt compelled to do it... for the fish... They looked fat enough for the oncoming winter and were probably delish...

    So with a pack filled with food I took the first steps up the mountain. The journey up the mountain became heavier as the air began to thin at such height. Still, the steps were broad and the incline was gentle... No need for prayer to the patron saint of minor discomfort... Again; What doesn't kill you...


    On the way up I collected the writings from the waystones, together they read;

    Before the birth of Men, the Dragons ruled all Mundus;
    Their word was the Voice, and they spoke only for True Needs;
    For the Voice could blot out the sky and flood the land.

    Men were born and spread over the face of Mundus;
    The Dragons presided over the crawling masses;
    Men were weak then, and had no Voice.

    For years all silent, the Greybeards spoke one name;
    Tiber Septim, stripling then, was summoned to Hrothgar;
    They blessed and named him Dovahkiin.

    The Voice is worship;
    Follow the Inner path;
    Speak only in True Need.


    High Hrothgar is a place without warmth... After depositing the knapsack of food in chest intended for such things I felt the undeniable urge to inquire about something Friend said before he passed away; "Do Vagh Gee" and the strange words that ran through my very being when I uncovered them.


    The Greybeards are exactly what you'd expect. Old men with gray beards. When I entered High Hrothgar they seemed to pay little heed to me... Three were lost in meditation, I guess, and the fourth one politely asked me to leave. I don't know why, but when I opened my mouth the strange words rolled off my tongue.
    "Pah werid sonaan Lunerio, wen yuvon lovaas meyz fo het ko vulon." A chill ran through my throat. I could see the monk's eyes grow for a moment and when I closed my mouth I saw the other monks had turned their gaze on me now.

    "I read these words and they seared into my mind." I stated.
    "All praise bard Lunerio, whose golden music became frost here in night." the monk said.
    "Who is Lunerio?" I asked, baffled by his response.
    "That is what you said my dear. It is dragontongue, the language of dragons. You have probably met with a dragon and survived then..."
    Well, Friend defeated him... I guess I stabbed it in the heart, but..." The monk looked quizzical and asked who Friend was. I told him of the encounter, the battle, the dragon engulfed in flame, the wordwall, the words...

    The monks immediately took to explaining what was happening to me. I am Dragonborn. Inheritor of the Atmoran blood and prodigy of the voice of man. Strike my previous theories, I wasn't even close... I was about to start asking any of a dozen questions that spilled from my curiosity, but the temple echoed with a deep rolling thunder. "Vos ek rahnd, zu'u hind wah tinvaak voth ek."

    "It seems our leader, Paarthurnax, has granted you permission to visit him. It is a rare honor, though in this age... everything seems possible..." Master Arngeir, the only vocal monk, said.

    A short trip through the courtyard and along a winding path up to the top of the mountain later I stood on the throat of the world...
    "Valokein joor, welcome mortal."
    "Zu'u los frund hi bo, I'm glad you come."
    "Aalkos hi vust fey fod ahrk tinvaak, maybe you could stay a while and talk."

    Perched on another wordwall was a dragon. I had frozen in my tracks the moment I noticed him, which to be honest had been far too late... Curiosity for the wordwall and blinded me.
    "You are Paarthurnax?" I had managed to force myself to say.
    "Hi los eldraag, you are surprised?"
    "Why me? Why can I understand you? Why does the sound of your voice comfort me?"
    "Us zu'u fahraal, before I answer, lig bolaav zey laan, please grant me a request."
    "Tinvaak rot hi doj nol vund, speak the word you learned from the wall."
    "Rotmulaag, the word of power."

    As his words sank into me I remembered the exact word that made my throat feel cold. I raised my head and softly spoke it aloud. "Fo..." A wave of cold air pulsed from my mouth. It washed over Paarthurnax and frost formed on his scales.
    "Grik fask zii, such gentle spirit."
    "Hi piraak avokei zahvos fah tinvaak, you possess greater potential for speech, fein vorey, than the other."
    "The other?" I asked. I was still awestruck, but the initial fear had completely vanished. "Is there another dragonborn like me?"
    "Vorey dovahkiin, the other dragonborn, gein tol sav hin lein nol Alduin, the one who saved the world from Alduin."
    "Rok kuz dez do lein, he carried the fate of the world, nuz fey ko Sovngarde, but stayed in Sovngarde."
    "So I am the only one then?"
    "Fah nu, for now."

    I let it all sink in for a moment. I felt no deception from him. Everything he had told me thus far had been steeped in respect. I suppose that was inherent to dragon-talk, but I am no scholar... I looked up at him, questions burning on my tongue. He tilted his head slightly, when I asked; "You said I have potential. What did you mean by that?" I asked.
    "Speak your name at the wall young one." he answered and turned his head to face the wall.
    "Thermis." I spoke at the wall and to my amazement two symbols lit up.
    "Thur iiz, Thurseiiz, Lord of ice. I will show you the Thu'um of Fo, Frost." Paarthurnax bellowed three words; "FO KRAH DIIN!" In a violent gust the entire wordwall was covered in ice.
    "Fo, Frost, Krah, Cold and Diin, Freeze. These word form the Thu'um of Frost Breath. The act of freezing, the loss of energy, but also the the shell that remains. Those who master these rotmulaag, these words of power, learn fine control over what they take... Do not be frightened, you will not be harmed."

    He turned his head towards me and bellowed those words again... Had I still any fear left, I might have tried to jump out of the way, but I felt safe...
    "FO KRAH DIIN!" he shouted and the violent gust engulfed me. To my amazement, the only thing that happened was in the wake of the gust a trail of snow formed in the air. It was nothing like the effect I had witnessed on the wall...


    After talking to him for a bit more, I noticed the sun was near setting. I thanked him for teaching me my name and my voice. He, in turn, thanked me for listening to an old Dovah and offered to teach me more of the language if or when I returned. On my way down it hit me that I'd probably never make it back down the mountain before the sun had disappeared. So instead I asked Master Arngeir if they had a spare room. He showed me a secluded corner where I could rest my head. Life, as I said, continues...

    "Well, his room is just next to the entrance. He's probably still asleep. And yes, his father is called Kjeld. Have you business with him?"
    "I am looking for an amulet or locket with a small emerald decoration. He owes it to a friend of mine."
    "He's in currently in Windhelm, but I could take a look in his dresser for you..."
    "Great. While you do that, tell Iddra not to go near juniors room today... Go have breakfast and enter his room when you are done."

    Little Kjeld was indeed still sleeping. I say little, but he was an adult, who apparently had a rather childish manner. Tying people up is easy... Tying sleeping people up is challenging when you are trying not to wake them, but junior was certainly easier than Hadmir. That may have been in part due to his size... Junior on the other hand was a scrawny caricature of a Nord... I was pretty well underway when Froa walked in...

    "Hey I found your... By Ysmir..." The volume of her voice probably woke junior... Thankfully he was already caught with is limbs bound together in a hogtie. I gestured her to be quiet. Froa put her hand over her mouth and leaned back against the door. With junior nor awake and struggling the next part would actually be more fun. I had already gagged him with a slightly repaired head harness and his head was covered in the old black-out hood.
    I leaned in and whispered in his ear; "I hear you have been a bad boy, junior. You probably didn't know that there is a tax on bad behavior, but I'm here to collect your debt."
    Froa's eyes grew wide as I pulled the soulgem plug from my bag. A bit of spittle announced the onset of the invasion.

    As I pushed the tip against his sphincter and the soulgem started to react, Junior started thrashing about... Well, for as far as that was possible while he was basically helpless. Everything was muffled by the gag and hood, but he did not agree with his predicament. Protest turned to pleading as the head of the plug forced its way past his sphincter. Pleading eventually gave way for plain moaning... Just like the quick-and-dirty harness I had made for Froa I added a few simple bindings to keep the plug in place. All the while Froa sat and watched.

    "Now, I will tell Froa to go look for you, and when she finds you she may or may not be inclined to help you. I would be very nice to her in the future, dear... Because I know where you sleep... and this isn't the largest one there is..." I whispered to junior.
    As if by design the soulgem discharged a few random shocks and with junior having such 'fun' I picked up my bag. Froa let us out of the room and we sat down at a table.
    "Will he be alright?" Se asked. "That depends on who wicked you are, but in general he will be fine. When you do cut him loose, cut him out of the hogtie first. Then just tell him a stranger told you to go find him... Did you find the locket?"
    "I did, it was under a pile of clothes along with two others. You can have all of them. A small thank you for today... And for last night..."
    "I promised your mother not to break your heart, but I wanted to help you explore a bit. You just needed a bit of a push I thought. If there wasn't a civil war on I'd tell you to find someone and either bind them to you or let yourself be bound to them... Just be careful. There are a lot of scoundrels out there for a lady to contend with."

    The morning had not been lost to me when I made my way outside. Froa gave me a peck on the cheek before I headed back towards Darkwater Crossing. "If you find any good yet lonely men out there, send them to Kynesgrove." She said with a smile. "I will. Just you wait."


    And there I was again, on the barren plains. This time with a spring in my step and a song in my heart. The trip back to Darkwater was quiet, but not uneventful. I met a traveling sister of Dibella and a troop of hunters out by the hotsprings. I traded her one of the spare amulets I got off Froa for a massage. I told her about my ordeal and showed her the collar, the bruises and my belt. I got her pretty excited when I told her I wore the belt by choice. She told me of the order of immaculate chastity within Dibellan lore. A militaristic order sworn to guard the temples in times of upheaval. Fascinating in its own right, but I just wanted her hands on my body...

    At Darkwater I met the woman that had set me on this path. Her name turned out to be Tormir. She gratefully took possession of the locket. Although she invited me for a more elaborate 'thank-you' I decided not to stick around this time. If anything I was getting homesick... I felt like my journey had only just started though. It was a foreboding feeling to say the least. Tormir may have sensed my heavy heart and she didn't insist. Instead, she pointed me in the direction of Ivarstead. There was a courier that made trips through the ruins of Helgen to Riverwood with his carriage.

    The path to Ivarstead is a steep one. Darkwater is by the base of a waterfall. It is the last one in a series of a steep cascading falls which springs from a lake in the Rift. Ivarstead sits at the start of this cascade. Thankful for an uneventful trip I entered Ivarstead. One last glance into the Eastmarch basin made made well up a bit... Goodbye Tormir, Friend and Froa... Divines keep you...

    I walked into Ivarstead and the first thing that greeted me was a couple arguing... Great! At least there was an inn... I traded the last amulet I got from Froa for food and a bed. I spent the entire evening recounting the past few days. Here, in my journal. I want to remember everything that has happened. Everything has made me stronger...

    To be blunt about it; Starting tomorrow, Real Life is about to drag me off for a few days. So no updates until Wednesday I think... I'll be allowed a few bites of internoms I think, so I will be around-ish...

    For those of you who are wondering if I haven't got anything pre-written; No, I write scraps at best if I'm not sitting down specifically to write.
    Truth be told, I'm interested to hear your opinions. I doubt I have more than a few folks following the misadventures of Thermis the Wicked, but hey... Most people are here for the latest SL version or and updated Zaz An Pack. I certainly came here looking to spice up my game...

    Respect is everything. A Nord who does not know respect shall never know honor.

    The day started late. I awoke with a sore body from head to toe. Maybe because for the first time in... However long... I had had a good night's rest and a belly full of food. It had been rough thus far, but I was among people again. Granted, I still thought it wise to hide the only visible remnant of my past predicament. After a good stretch I packed my bag. I had tried to travel light, but in these strange past couple of days I had gathered a wide variety of things. A sharpened dagger of throat cutting, Friend' razor of dragon stabbing, a decrepit bow, that one single arrow, some fur clothing and some travel furs. I even had a few dragonscales that had not burned away. What I didn't have was gold.

    When I emerged for my room Iddra asked if I wanted something to eat. I reached for my coin purse, but she told me not to bother and to grab a seat at any table. She joined me and pushed a chunk of bread and a tankard of mead in my hands. "You look like a lass with some experience." She started. I caught myself before I rolled my eyes, bad manners would surely rob me of another good night's rest. "I need a favor of you." She continued "You see, my daughter and my step-son are not getting along very well. I've tried to tell him to stop, but I fear that his father spoiled him too much already."
    "And what do you want me to do about it?" I asked, rather perplexed. "He's probably not going to listen to me..."
    "I want you to speak to Froa. She needs to stand up for herself like a proud Nord woman."

    That was a surprise. I suppose I must have look like a seasoned hunter from the wilds of the Rift.
    "Few venture across the barren plains these days, even fewer women. You are maybe the third in this cycle of the moon to have come from there. So please, talk to her." She looked rather upset... A warm feeling brewed inside of me. "I'll have a talk with her. Mums and daughters of Skyrim, right?"
    He face cleared and she put her hand on mine. "Thank you. Froa is outside, gathering wood. She'll probably return soon."



    Before too long a young woman walked in carrying a bunch of firewood. From her manner you could gather that she was angry. Not livid, but disgruntled. She went up to the cask of mead, poured herself a tankard and sat down opposite me. "And who might you be?" She asked, clearly not interested in the answer. I think her goal might have been to intimidate me in some way, but there was a fine line between tough and posing. She was clearly not as tough as she would like to be.
    "Froa I presume." I said in a slight demeaning tone. "And how would you know that? Who has been slandering me this time? I bet it was that little worm Kjeld. Believe nothing he said. He's a liar and a coward. I can't see what mother sees in his father."
    "Your mother asked me to talk to you. She believes you need to stand up for yourself." I said before she started spewing more bile.
    "She did?! She has just stands by and watches as the little bastard grabs every opportunity to humiliate me." I was already starting to like this girl. So much will to fight, only constrained by a lack of means...

    "You know... this Kjeld sounds like he could use a bit of a lesson in respect." I said, unaware that my 'wicked grin', as Hadmir would call it, grew ever wider on my face. With a confused look she looked at me for a while. "And what were you planning to do to him if I may ask." She asked suspiciously.
    "I could tie him up for a while. Make him consider his stance on women. You know... Give his pride a bit of a beating..." I said.
    All of the anger and suspicion disappeared from her face, replaced by a surprised look. A few silent moments passed until she leaned in and in a hushed voice asked me; "Are you a dominatrix?"

    "A what?" I inquisitively responded. "A dominatrix. You know... a woman that has the power to enslave a man to her will. With whips and shackles and chains and a dozen servants at you disposal..." She blurted out... She looked curious and flustered... Mainly flustered...
    "What have you been reading to give you that idea? Actually, wait, never mind... I don't want to know. I know how to do some things, but I'm not this dominatrix thing if your rough description is anything to go by." She began to look a bit disappointed. I couldn't blame her. She probably spoke her thoughts out loud.
    "Assume for a moment that I am such a woman, what would you have me do?" I asked. Hadmir would probably draw comparisons to a spider creeping up on a butterfly that barely touched its web at this point. Hadmir was a lot smarter than everyone, even he himself, took him for...

    The afternoon faded to dusk before Froa was done talking. She had all kinds of amazing fantasies. Most of them feasible... Some just plain bizarre... She just needed a little push in the right direction and the right tools. Having someone that understands you would also help... "I'm sorry. You probably think I have been possessed by some for of daedric curse..." She said before looking embarrassed and somewhat hopeful.
    "You have a vivid imagination... Do you happen to have any reasonable lengths of rope? Because I could show you how to do some of the things you told me about. More importantly, I could show you how not to do it..."
    An innocent, naive smile suddenly adorned her face. "I'll go get some! My room is the one on the right behind the counter. Just grab some mead from the cask and wait for me there." That said, she stormed off...

    I walked over to Iddra and told her that Froa had invited me to spend the night. She looked surprised. "Well it's up to her I guess...     It didn't take long for her hands and feet to be tied neatly in front of her. She had been watching attentively, but I think it was at this point that she realized just how helpless she was. It was too late to do anything about it though. I tied the rope ends to the bed, stretching her over the length its. From my bag I pulled the damaged gag and the soulgem plug, which had been left on and in me by their previous owner... I showed them to her. She must have recognized them because she started to squirm a bit. When I presented her the gag she hesitated a moment, but eventually took it in her mouth. Without the harness it wasn't much use, but this way she could always just spit it out...

    With a few leather straps I made a very basic harness and with a swift move I raised her skirt. Even while I was still strapping it between her legs the soulgem reacted to her arousal. It would continue to react to her and give her just a bit of stimulation. So there she lay. Unable to free herself... Well I say unable, but... I had not tied any knots on the bindings on her hands.   24. Thermius
    Note before reading: This entry has literally nothing to do with my playthrough, but I felt like adding it in because raisins... I'm not experienced in writing these sort of things, but I do hope it is well received.



    He never claimed to be a smart man. He was dutiful and proud, but smart didn't really run in the family. Then again, it wasn't expected of him. One does not approach a guard for learned conversation. They needed either the law or a strong arm. Hadmir held the guard post during the morning shift until mid-day. The area around Dragon's Bridge wasn't as troubled as elsewhere, but people came and went on a regular basis. Travelers to Solitude or traders looking to do business with the East Empires Trading Company. Once in a while he'd grab a petty pickpocket or obnoxious vagrant and toss them in the stocks for a day, but life was quiet.

    Hadmir had few desires in life, but he had set himself one goal. Though until now it had been unreasonably hard to reach. His goal was to wed a certain girl from his native village down to the south. When they were little he had told her he was going to make her his wife when they grew up. She had given him just one condition; he had to best her in matters of the heart, mind and body. Little had he understood the scope of this undertaking, and he had accepted the challenge with unwavering confidence. Kids can be mean... Fickle and mean... They can drop you in a pond one moment and share their lunch with you the next... Thermis was a little different.

    She'd never hurt him, but when she could she would embarrass him. It made him frustrated, but he'd strive to not let her catch him off guard again. She usually found something else to poke him with... Always one step ahead, but never out of reach. One day he realized that it was all a game to her. She was challenging him to be a better man now than he was yesterday and he would rise to that challenge. He may have come close on many occasions, but she'd still always be just that one step ahead. He might not have been destined to become a learned man, but he would at least learn a way to conquer her heart.

    When they came of age* Hadmir worked up the courage to ask her to test him. He was confident he could best her trial. She had accepted, but with a caveat. "It has to be worth my time. So even if you fail to impress you had better be prepared for... consequences..." She had told him. He had accepted this... What was the worst that could happen? Right... She told him to meet her at the stables four mornings from then.
    Hadmir was not your typical Nord. He was taller than most and built like a bear. Before he came of age he had always worked at the Solitude sawmill, though he had never aspired to becoming a woodsman. Hadmir could have easily become a carpenter, but he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps. He wanted to become a guard. By what hardly could be called a family tradition he would become a guard and uphold the law. His grandfather, old man Iverrig, had been a fisherman all his life. Hadmir's father had become a guard when the Forsworn struck out at settlements beyond The Reach. Hadmir would follow his lead now that he was a man.



    "By the divi..." flashed through his mind as his vision started fading. He hadn't even set more than three steps inside the stables when she caught him off guard from behind. He could feel her body pressing against his back... Her ample curves so clearly apparent... His lights were going to go out pretty damn soon and there was nothing he could do about it.
    A splash of cold water brought him back to his senses. As his vision cleared and he regained his awareness he felt cold and his arms hurt. Slowly his predicament dawned on him. He was standing under an arch in the stables. His hands and feet were tied to bars that spread them about a pace apart. The bar on his arms had also been strapped to the arch, leaving him standing. Furthermore, he was naked except for his boots.
    "Are you awake? Who would have guessed a big strong man like yourself would go down so easily." A familiar voice said.
    "I take it I failed your test then... I was ill prepared." He replied. "Very ill indeed..."
    "Are you prepared to accept the consequences?" She asked, probably with the most wicked smile she could manage.
    "My word stands." He replied, as he swallowed his pride. Hadmir was a man of his word. A man of principal.
    "Pray to Stendarr and I will stop." She whispered in his ear as she slowly blacked out his sight with a remarkably comfortable blindfold.

    "Open wide!" She commanded and presented a wooden bit to his lips. "It will make things a bit more bearable."
    He could feel her hands roaming over his body and for a moment she held him tight. When she let go he could feel a slim cane of stick making its way across his back. When it reached his bottom it snapped a sharp strike across. He screamed into the wood bit. Another snap of the crop, another muffled scream. After a while he lost count. The pain became less sharp after the first few strikes. Sometimes there would be a pause and he would feel her hand roaming the sore area's on his body. Sometimes it would be nails running down his spine.

    After a while he could feel her checking the state of his arms and legs. In a weird, but fascinating way he felt save. No blood had been drawn and he could take it still... She leaned in and whispered to him; "That was the warm-up... A big boy like you can surely take something a bit more... You can call for Stendarr now and this will all end, but If you take at least two times of what is next on the list there is a reward in it for you."
    Hadmir though for a moment, but he would not give in just yet. He steeled his mind for what was to come, but what hit him next made him spit out the bit and cry out in pain. A searing pain tore across his back, accompanied by unmistakable sound of a whip. Tears seeped from under the blindfold as a warm hand touched where the whip had struck.

    "Have you had enough?" the wicked voice asked... Had he? Everything screamed; 'Yes, Mercy?!' But somewhere, in his mind a voice said no. "Hit me!" he shouted. Barely had he fallen silent before the next hit tore at his body. Tears now poured and his voice wavered "Is that all you have! Hit me!" He shouted again. The pain was instant, followed by an exasperated cry. "You win... By Stendarr have mercy... I yield..."
    Through all the pain he felt her arms wrap around him for a few seconds.



    He could hardly feel a thing when she cut him down from his bonds to the arch. She carefully lowered him to a fur on the ground and sat there with him on her lap. After removing the blindfold she spent her time stroking his hair. Slowly Hadmir began to collect his senses. He was in pain, but he had never felt anything like the hurricane of emotions that were still coursing through his being right now. "You are... a very brave man." the wicked voice said. "You..." Hadmir tried to respond, but was quickly silenced. "Brave men win hearts." She whispered. "It matters not that you failed to win my body... this time... You've shown me the man inside you. The one that will face adversity head-on." "You truly deserve a reward."

    As she lay him down on the fur he could feel her hands roaming his body again. Before long they latched on to his manhood. He could have been forgiven for calling her a liar. From the start until the end she would give him no mercy. Before she allowed him release she would bring him to the edge and leave him there. Having ruined him twice she then devoured him entirely. Hadmir was not a small man... He was 'proportionally' endowed. As she released him it became clear that this time he would be allowed to finish. She swallowed his pride... He had been completely defeated...



    A he sat against the arch from which he had been hanging just a while before. Thermis had gathered her ropes and restraints and was sitting opposite him. "I believed you would take three..." She said. The wicked grin was gone. "I'm not like other girls Hadmir..."
    "This is what I have to overcome?" He asked, his voice heavy and exasperated.
    "I want you to be strong. Maybe I'm selfish, but I want you to be stronger than me..." She buried her head behind her knees as she sat with her arms wrapped around her legs.
    "You are one wicked lady... A real piece of work..." Hadmir scoffed.
    Thermis looked up. She seemed frightened...
    "If this is the bar you have raised for this challenge... Then I accept!." Hadmir exclaimed. Instantly Thermis started to glow with joy.
    "I will respect your wish until the day we are wed, but hear me, Thermis, the Devourer, the Wicked... You will remember the day I beat you!"

    That day they drew up the rules of engagement; If Hadmir lost another test, Thermis would pick another punishment. If he conquered either her body or her mind, Thermis would marry him on the spot... Fairly straightforward... Of sorts...

    Dear diary,



    I believe in working hard to accomplish my goals, but lately I find it increasingly more obvious I may have offended some deity or maybe a demon from Oblivion. The world is set against me. Throwing ever increasingly bizarre events at me. Working at our farm didn't require much prayer, but even in times of need we'd dutifully keep our local shrine clean and stocked for travelers. Not a thankless task, but we never expected anything in return.

    Today I made it to Kynesgrove, but what a day it had been. Though it started out pleasantly enough, I now remember it as a foreshadowing of things to come.

    The woman from Darkwater Crossing had pointed me in the general direction of Kynesgrove. I realize now I never asked for her name... Nor did I tell her mine... What was my name again... I'm sure Hadmir would have called me the Devourer and this point... Anyway... I had caught a bit of sleep on the edge of an apparent wasteland. The Eastmarch basin is a renowned thermal hot spot. Warm water spews forth from crevices at a steady pace and minerals from said primal waters are renowned to nurture ones skin. Alchemists are known to recommend bathing here to boost ones health.

    Once the sun had ordained to show its face I set out across the pond-riddled plains. Even though the terrain was jagged and uneven at the best of times I had covered a fair distance before the sun was at its peak. Uneventful was the morning... Until I heard a man shouting in the distance. When I went to investigate I could see a man running away. I could also see a cow with strangely familiar markings being accosted by three wolves. The cow seemed to be made of sterner fabric than the man... I decided to 'make my ancestors proud'. I'm not what you'd call a warrior and as I said before, I doubt I'll end up in the halls of Shor. But to be fair... The wolves were distracted, wolf meat is lean and I wasn't planning on going hungry any time soon...

    With the element of 'we're tearing at this cow' on my side my dagger earned its new name, Wolfsbane. With a dead wolf on the end of my dagger the other two retreated a small distance. I was prepared for them, but they decided to run away. Feeling rather pleased with myself, holding a dead wolf by its scruff I turned to the cow... It was then that I noticed what the wolves probably ran away from... How foolish of me to consider myself intimidating... Stood a small distance from me was a giant...

    He didn't look like I was offending his personal space... Which for giants is about a hundred paces in any given direction... But my heart sank when he started to approach... I could take a wolf or two, but a giant... One single blow from his mace would drive me straight into the ground. I admit I was too scared to move when he was all but two paces from me, but he seemed calm. He looked at me with large empty eyes. Then he looked at the cow... The cow with strange markings... "By Kyne how could I not have noticed!" I nearly shouted out loud. I dawned on me that some farmers bring offerings to the giants to appease them and stay them from 'visiting' their farms. This cow was such an offering.

    As I started to back away slowly, the giant stepped forward and in a single stride closed the distance. I froze in my tracks. I was sure I had offended him... While my heart nearly burst with fear I stood petrified. Caught between 'fight' and 'flight'. He reached for me and picked the dagger from my hand. He stood towering over me for a while, looking at the dagger. To my surprise he started laughing. He set his mace on the ground and detached a large sack from his belt. From it he took, what to him must have seemed like a letter-opener and dropped it in front of me along with my little dagger... I would have felt offended somehow, but I had a giant take pity on me... Hadmir will never believe me... not in a hundred lifetimes...



    At this point that day took a turn for the worse... In the worst way possible... ever... With a roar it made its presence know. From the sky descended a huge, winged, scaled horrifying creature. A creature of legend. A dragon. Old man Iverrig used to tell us young folk the lore of old, but I doubt even he believed that a dragon would ever roam the skies of Tamriel again... The dragon swooped down and picked up the cow in its massive claws. It then flew off to a rocky outcrop towards the center of the basin. The giant, slightly confused and utterly enraged, picked up his mace and set about heading towards the outcrop.
    Feeling slightly inclined to aid this big friendly giant I took notice that my body was still frozen in place. I have never been this physically terrified... First the giant, now a bloody dragon... Whoever I have offended really took the whole disproportionate response thing to heart... It wasn't all to long before a sense of honor, curiosity and a fool's bravery granted me control of my feet again...

    In the distance I could hear the dragon roar. I traversed the plains as fast as my feet could carry me and when I arrived at the outcrop I could hear the giant shouting as well. As I climbed the slope of the outcrop I came upon a clearing where the giant and the dragon were engaged in combat. The cow lay dead, impaled on a stone shard. The giant was staggering from a blast of freezing breath expelled from the dragon's mouth.
    Close to the entrance of the hollowed clearing lay the remains of men, clad in fur. Probably bandits or hunters from the region. Prey in the eyes of a dragon. One of them had a bow and a sinlge steel-headed arrow. So If I was going to make a difference I'd have one shot. I could never match a giant in strength and even he was having a hard time to say the least. So I hurried and got in position off to their side. The years spent practicing my archery on hares would be put to their ultimate test...

    "Don't hold your breath." Uncle Throm said. "Clear your lungs and keep them purged." "Look for the killing shot. Any animal, big or small, has a kill-zone where its eyes are. Hit the eye and you can take down even the largest troll."
    Those words had better be true uncle, or this could be the grave of Thermis the Devoured in a few moments... I thought to myself as the dragon tore in to the giant's side and ripped off a chunk of his skin. The giant staggered and cried out in pain and the dragon drew a deep breath... Now! I thought as I let the arrow fly.

    With a tremendous roar the dragon flailed about. I had caught it unaware, right in the eye, I had bloodied it... The giant, who had recovered his footing, raised his mace high and with a sickening smack laid waste to the disoriented dragon. Had it not been a dragon, its head would have come clean off... The giant then collapsed to the ground. He had sustained grievous wounds and I recognized that he would not survive this day. With the giant's letter-opener I skewered the motionless dragon where I guesstimated its heart would be.



    The giant had cropped himself against a rock. His face had turned pale and his big empty eyes were dim. The tear in his flesh he held tightly as the blood poured on the floor. I put my hand on his, though it was naught but a gesture. I had never learned anything more basic than the weakest of healing spells. It was hardly suited to stop a wound like this, but at least it would relieve some pain. The giant turned his head to me, as if to acknowledge my kindness, but turned his gaze upon the dragon's lifeless body before too long. He raised his arm and directed me to look as well.

    The dragon looked like it was burning. Its flesh vaporized as ember sparks from a hearthfire. The embers swiftly started making their way towards me and dove into my body. A warm sensation filled me as I absorbed the essence of a dragon... The giant looked at me and spoke in a deep voice, in a language I could not understand. He pointed at me and spoke his last words; "Do Vagh Gee". With that he collapsed. He had bled to death and there was nothing I could do. Tears welled in my eyes and it started to rain.

    After the rain cleared I spent some time collecting furs from the dead. I used them to wrap 'Friend' the giant's body. I had not got a clue as to the rites of passage upheld by the giants, but for me it felt right. I would stay with his body until night came and his spirit could leave his body. I assume my ancestors would welcome him If we do all travel the same road in the afterlife.

    While searching hollowed clearing I came across an inscribed wall. The markings were weathered and rough, but strangely alluring. When I cleaned the dust off most of the carvings I began to hear chanting... "Pah WERID SONaaN LUNERIO, WEN YUVON LOVaaS MeyZ FO HET KO VULON." "Fo, Fo, Fo..."
    My mouth went dry. When I tried to speak I felt intense cold building in my throat. "Fo..." I whispered and watched as crystals of snow formed around my breath. I remembered now that I heard something when the dragon roared. I heard this word...



    I buried Friend this day, I shall tell his tale and remember him as a warrior worthy of Shor's hall. May he be judged favorably for his valor.
    So here I am. Kynesgrove. I had snagged a hooded cloak from one of the other dead. He wasn't going to use it anymore anyway... It made my iron collar a little less conspicuous. 5 Gold for a bed, 2 for a pint of mead and piece of bread... Well spent I guess... I got to use the kitchen to prepare some beef cuts I got off the skewered cow... Something which Iddra, the Innkeeper, gave me a discount on a bed for... Beef seems to be a good trade supply here. I'm tired... I might just sleep till noon tomorrow... Anyway... Here's to you Friend, slayer of dragons! May you be greeted kindly wherever you have gone, just don't tell them Thermis sent you...
