Display Chinese and Japanese

I found a plugin called obcn_12416.dll which is suppose to let oblivion to display Chinese characters, but it somehow change all my BT mod fonts size :s. Does anyone know if there is another plugin that won't mess up with your UI mod?

Really interested in that too :)

Is that an obse mod?

And btw, I think it modifies the font (from a latin characters font to an utf16 font...?), not the font size.

My UI was totally mess up after installing that dll though. Gigantic fronts appear in the inventory menu and stat menu =.=

Yup' date=' it did. I just found out it also created a obcn.ini in my save folder. Seems like you can change the font size here. But I don't understand what's going on in the folder.

Here is the obcn I play around with:

[OBCN']

FontParam1_1=ºÚÌå,0,24,-1,24,34,700,0,0

FontParam1_2=ºÚÌå,0,24,-1,24,34,700,0,0

FontParam1_InterLinear=24

FontParam2_1=Á¥Êé,0,20,-2,13,34,400,0,0

FontParam2_2=Á¥Êé,0,20,-2,13,34,400,0,0

FontParam2_InterLinear=20

FontParam3_1=·½Õý×¼Ô²¼òÌå,0,22,-2,16,34,700,0,0

FontParam3_2=·½Õý×¼Ô²¼òÌå,0,22,-2,16,34,700,0,0

FontParam3_InterLinear=16

FontParam5_1=Á¥Êé,0,24,-1,26,34,400,0,0

FontParam5_2=Á¥Êé,0,24,-2,26,34,400,0,0

FontParam5_InterLinear=24

May have to run that through a Chinese translator alako. That sounds like where the font sizes may be controlled.

That's Chinese:

[OBCN]
FontParam1_1=黑体,0,24,-1,24,34,700,0,0
FontParam1_2=黑体,0,24,-1,24,34,700,0,0

FontParam2_2=隶书,0,20,-2,13,34,400,0,0
FontParam2_InterLinear=20
FontParam3_1=方正准圆简体,0,22,-2,16,34,700,0,0
FontParam3_2=方正准圆简体,0,22,-2,16,34,700,0,0
FontParam3_InterLinear=16
FontParam5_1=隶书,0,24,-1,26,34,400,0,0
FontParam5_2=隶书,0,24,-2,26,34,400,0,0
FontParam5_InterLinear=24

Maybe you can try to change some of the numbers in parameters, like all the suspicious 34 by 18, to see if this parameter controls size.

Can you post that mod?

Well this is what I did that happend to make this work. I swaped the font with a custom smaller font in tredtional Chinese. You should be able to use actual simplified Chinese fonts, just remember to edit your obcn.ini accordingly.

Install the font (.ttf) by draging it into your Control Panel>Fonts list.

Place the obcn.ini to your My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\ folder

And finally place obcn_12416.dll to your Oblivion\Data\OBSE\Plugins\ folder.

I didn't tweak the ini settings to the perfect exact, but at the moment the settings seem to work well enough.

Also, this won't work if you have the Japanese plugin obja_12416.dll in your plugins folder. As Oblivion doesn't support unicode. So you can only have one language plugin. If you have both, the Japanese plugin will take priority, and any Chinese character will appear gibberish.

Be great if anybody can figure out a way for Oblivion to handle both at same time, though.

By the way, it's worth noting I've had multiple complications using Japanese/Chinese writing systems implemented into Oblivion while using interface mods, like Darnified. I think BTMod did work for me, but be warned if you go with Darnified, you may risk your game not booting up.

At the end of the day, I just don't play with Japanese/Chinese characters. Yes, I get ascii random jibberish crap, but it's not like I can read Japanese very well anyways (certainly not Chinese), so why use it? I'll take Darnified any day over something I can't read.
