Mesh edit: requests

I am not sure if this is the right place for this thread, it will depend on the requests.

I got the idea from the meshedit thread from janet. I tried to assemble a custom armor with nifskope, wich i know a bit about how to handle. Where i am really pants at, is using blender. So i thought to make a thread for requests to edit existing meshes. Nothing fancy here, no new armors or such stuff. For Oblivion i do a lot of mixing and mashing. In FO:NV i noticed a lack of separate clothing meshes, like torso, legs, feet, gloves. I tried hard to find a mesh of the leatherarmor with separated Nitristrips for legs and torso for instance. I could not find any. Even the type 3 conversions for the leatherarmor consist of a combined Nitristrip.

So here is my first request: Could somebody separate the armor pieces of leaterarmor into separate pieces with blender? If possible the type3 variant? All i need is the mesh, no esps needed.

I dont think this would be in violation of acquiring the modders permission first, since its not altering the mesh itself but only separates a nitrishape into several bits. Ofc if a mashup would be used in a distributed mod, it would be polite to ask for permission first.

This would open the possibility for people without blederskills to create some new apparel, like leatherarmorpants with a ncr armored vest and enclaveboots for example.

This is actually much simpler to do than you think. Assuming you have blender and the nif plugins.

Because of the way the type 3 mesh is pants plus a midriff baring top it makes things even easier. All you have to do is first, import it into blender, obviously. Delete the cube that's there at first since you'll be deleting it anyway.

After importing it, all that's left to do is select the tristrips group for the pants and top by right clicking it. Press tab to enter edit mode, then press A to deselect the vertices. Then press b to enter box selection mode and click and drag a box over the pants and boots. When it's selected and you're sure you don't have any of the top selected too just press p to separate it into it's own group. After that all that's left is exporting.

Really I could do this for you in like two or so minutes. But the sooner you learn to do it on your own the sooner you can make by yourself all the little tweaks and edits you want.

If you really can't do it though after trying, and I can't get things working for you Ill make your little edit for you. Just tell me what you'd be looking for and I wouldn't mind giving it a shot. Just know Ill be using the type 6 body as a base if I do.

I have bleder and the niftools. I also have looked at it several times, tried to watch some tutorial videos but everytime i look at it my brain just runs away screaming:) i'l give it a try though. Thanks for writing this up.

Edith: er.. the meshes from Type3 that Kodiak gave a link to in the other mesh thread already has them separate... problem solved.

Edit2: haha, this works, already messed up another armorpiece. You have to take great care not to click, press or drag something unintentional but it works!
