Kashiwaba Tomoe

The new IPB build sucks.

Anyone else annoyed by the new forum updates change to the way things work ?

From the way quote bubbles were changed (Ive noticed more people breaking them lately) to the way you can't just hilite an image link and click the image tab, the new IPB kinda sucks balls (this isn't the only forum where the updates proven annoying to me, admitedly).

Also, the advanced controlls often don't show up, either. (and yes I've allowed the site, plus ajax.googleapis.com in no script).

edit: Not slagging the site in anyway, the new IPB build just sucks in my opinion. IPB ten years ago was much easier to deal with.

Everything is working fine as far as I can tell. All the advanced controls are working on my end and quotes are working correctly without any issues as well.

Most of it works, most of the time, dunno why the advanced controls don't load sometimes, and as I've said it's an issue I've noted on other sites that upgraded as well.

Personally I think the main issue of the build was that they changed too much how stuff had worked in IPB for ages in an attempt to be flashy and/or more mobile compatable

The empty quote box below is an example. Under the old system it appeared as markup, and was easy to manage, now you got a big quote box that is quite annoying to deal with in comparison.

This isn't a theme issue, that primarially deals with what image is loaded for buttons, coloration, etc, this deals with the way the forum itself works.

Well the (possibly) good news is that some of this may be modular, allowing the old code to be used, but I haven't setup an IPB in about ten years now so my experince is heavily outdated.

But you think this is bad, you should see the trainwreck that is IPBs 'chat' module, it utterly sucks.

Part of it is an attempt to make things more usable on smartphones, but the problem there is the same as in the gaming market with the PC/Console debate, if you dumb it down for one, it makes using it on the other suck.

Besides, the way it now requires scripts from more sites be used (I had to allow more shit in noscript to make LL and other updated IPB sites work) tells me there will likely end up being more secuirty issues resulting from the update as well.

I kind of like the new look  ,the only thing that seems strange is the quote , but other than that no real issues.

Is it possible to set it to display, on a per user basis, the old setup ?

I've yet to figure how the new way to make a bit of text into a clickable link like it used to be.

I meant using the post tools :P .

Keep in mind, I'm slagging invision not the site tech staff over this, first saw a site update to the new stuff a few months back, I've had time to realize that in most cases they just changed shit to change it, quite frusterating.
