complete rebuild needed?

hello all..

I purchased skyrim at launch but never really touched it as i still had many games to finish before i got started. my gf decided to jump on and play instead. she loaded sooo many mods that i cant get anything to work properly. i have deleted my data folder, reinstalled twice but i cant get rid of this list of mods. my interests are mainly inthe lady body mod and high res paks. i've been at this for days now and im at my wits end..can anyone guide me on starting fresh and installing the lady body mod?...thanks

This is a suggestion I posted elsewhere

First you need to uninstall Skyrim(Captain Obvious at your service)
This is how:

1. Open steam.
2. From the menu select: Games>View games library
3. Right click: The Elderscrolls V: Skyrim
4. Select: Properties
5. From the tabs, select: Local files.
6. Click: Delete local game content...

After its been removed there are three folders you'll need to verify that they've been deleted.
There shouldn't be any Skyrim folder in "..\Steam\steamapps\common"

 

Delete the Skyrim folder from "..\Documents\My Games\"
e.g. "C:\Users\<user name>\Documents\My Games"
(This folder is where the game keeps its savegames)

 

Delete the Skyrim folder from "..\AppData\Local"
e.g. "C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local"
(This folder is where the game keeps information about mods and etc.)
That "AppData" folder is by default hidden in the OS, to show these folders search the interwebs for:
windows showing hidden folders

so is it possible to install lady body without  a mod manager?....btw, i found the AppData  folder and am now reinstalling skyrim..

Yeah, just do it manually

Read the instructions/readme of the mod.

I couldn't find the mod you're talking about so I can't assist on that particular mod.

But seeing its a body replacer mod...

There should be two folders:

Textures

Meshes

Drop those two in your "..\Skyrim\Data"-folder

And you're ready to go, err, play.

thanks a million..about 20 more minutes before game is reinstalled ..i'll giver it a try

also, there are 3 folders..textures, meshes and an ESP...i take it i'm supposed to find where other folders of said name are and drop new ones there?

the .esp file is always directly under "..\Skyrim\Data\"

What is the third folder called?

do i take the cotents of the textures and meshes folder out and place them in the game's folders or do i just drop the whole folder in the game dir?

Not the contents.

For example, the mod folder contains(light green = folders)

Textures

Meshes

TheMod.esp

Select those 3 items and copy(ctrl+c)

Then open "..\Skyrim\Data"

Paste(ctrl+v)

The Data folder should now contain

Textures

Meshes

TheMod.esp

Did you delete the "\AppData\Local\Skyrim" folder?

If you did it may be the NMM which tries to reinstall them. :/

The "..\AppData\Local\Skyrim" folder contains information about your load order, installed mods, mods you've subscribed to.

So deleting only that one won't help, but if you do Steam won't install the subscribed mods.

 

Now I see someone using the alias "monkeypoots" starting to tear his hair.

Seeing you reinstalled Skyrim and "something" just reinstalled all mods that you wanted to remove in the first place.

You can clean the data folder manually.

 

A clean install of Skyrim\Data has the following files and folders structure

NOTE: I have the Creation Kit installed so some of the folders may not be present if you don't have that application installed. "Scripts" for example.

 

I actually made a Java application just to handle this tedious task of cleaning up mods...

But I can't release it yet because I'm not 110% sure it works.

I use to use NMM in the early beta so things might of changed. For current info and verification I would check the Nexus Site for current procedure.

 

I would un-install all mods controled by NMM before deleting the Skyrim Game from Steam.

 

As far as not using a mod manager many of the games from Skyrim are created for the use of the NMM. It makes managing the mods a bit easier. Great for those that don't want to learn or follow instructions. Many mod authors don't even have instructions for manual installation. To install manually you will need to be able to understand the structure of the game files, see what the author has added and then drop what you want into the correct files.

 

For not using mod managers it is easy enough but you really have to follow the instructions to the T or something can get screwed up. Also if the files are loose you will have to chase down those indiviual files and delete them if they are "added" or enhancer files. If they are "replacers" you will have to have a clean back up of the files changed and copy paste and accept the overwrite of them to remove them. There are several files to keep in mind as well Textures, Mesh, Sound, to name a few.

 

A lot of work to install mods without a manager. Lots of work to repair a messed up texture file and the such.. however some of the best game customizations are created by doing these manual install. Change hair textures, face, hand clothes etc.Truly make it unique and different and ultmatly special. The choice is up to you
