Dude500X

something is bottlenecking my CPU, games just wont run properly

This is driving me nuts

I can usually always play games at 30fps.  Lately it has not been the case.

So, I opened up processes and found that something called CCC.Exe is hogging the whole cpu, I am sure this is catalyst control thing but.. should it be using 90% of the CPU when im only on Firefox??

Im sure that is causing my games to buckle.  Anyone know how I can fix this?

CCC.exe is Catalyst Control Centre.

Sounds like you either have a virus on your computer or you need to uninstall and reinstall the CCC suite.

Apart from that we can't really help unless you give us some specs and more information.

Also turn off auto-updating if the feature exists with Catalyst.  That could have been what was going on at the time.

doubt I have a virus since I recently factory resetted.  have run security essentials and malware bytes and came up clean.

I know my PC can run these games, so I dont know why system spec's is necessary.

disabled that update thing, maybe was causing it.

frustrating as last night the game was working fine and now I load up New Vegas and its back to 15-20fps when it was running great at 30fps last night.

One thing I do is go through and turn off all auto updating in all programs, from Windows to the smallest firefox plugin.   I update only when I need\want to.  Before beginning a gaming session you can hit ctrl+alt+delete and take a look at what processes are running in the background.  If they are update deals (like adobeupdater.exe) or just stuff that you don't need running (like skype)  then kill the process.  If you don't know what the process is then leave it alone or google search it.  Shutting down the wrong thing could crash your windows session forcing you to reboot.

well, turning those updates off worked... back to 30fps even in heavy combat.  Might try see if I can get 40fps, used texture optimiser on NMC light so might beable to get better fps.

now I just gotta fix the damn white head black body problem but Im sure that is an Ini thing.

Make sure you are NOT running the oblivion launcher.  That automatically creates a new ini file.

Make sure the file is not set to read-only and that your user has permission to change it under security settings. Otherwise it will just switch back.

Recently factory resetting a computer doesn't mean a damn thing when it comes to viruses. They are even virus which embed themselves into the HDD which allows them to survive the reformatting process.

The requirements of the game go up when you add mods to the game, the more mods the more computer resources are needed. Not only that games like Oblivion and Fallout: New Vegas are still processing event in areas even when you have left that area. Again more resources being used.

Ive heard of that.. but I have heard it can break computers.  Is it user friendly?

CCleaner is a great program and definitely user friendly. I've used it forever and it has never "broke" my computer. Some people complain about the registry cleaner, but I've never had a problem with it, so whatever.

You should also run a spyware / adware scan while your at it, Malwarebytes Antimalware is a great free program, as well as Spybot. Sometimes Virus scanners pick this stuff up, but I find a dedicated adware program does a better job usually. Only thing that is annoying is sometimes they will mark keygens as viruses, so ya if you're into that whole thing just be warned.

if you got virus issues the only way to deal with it : format with killdisk or darik's boot and nuke windows format and factory reset just delete the link to the virus but it's still there

better yet, download every anti malware and anti virus software you can find and install them, cough....cough really guys??? a few posts from the beginning of this topic states to turn everything off and all you guys did was give him a ton of new things that will either self activate, create new partitions on his hard drive, and in registry and double or triple his already suffering system

look if you want a secure system stay out of the quote unquote spyware and anti-malware programs the majority of them are using archaic formats and not all of them are 100% accurate and some just shouldn't even be available to the public in general

look if you get a virus there is only one thing you can do to be sure you get rid of it and thats to follow CYB3R's advise cause once a virus has planted itself onto your machine you can never know for certain if it has been completely removed...

I can tell what i do, and i have never had a Virus nor key logger that i couldn't say for sure that i wasn't able to get rid of 100%

set your computer up the way you want it and get it running your games as you like them to run, this includes getting all of the updates and mods

either download or purchase a copy of Panda AntiVirus then get a hold of a copy of Acronis TruImage the Panda software is used by many of the bank industries world wide , i figure if its good enough to keep our money safe then handling our PC's should be a breeze for it, Secondly the Acronis software is used to back up your entire computer onto a spare hard drive saved in an .ISO format best way of using this software is once you have your pc setup and running how you like it, unplug the internet cable or disable your internet connection, make a digital copy of your hard drives it will make a copy of all hard drives either individually or independently  then save that copy to a hard drive big enough to hold all information , then remove that hard drive from your system and put it back into its antistatic sleeve and back into its box and into a safe location

now why would anyone want to do the above, simple you and everyone else here can attest to the amount of time it takes to set up a PC as it can take 9Hours to a day to get it near to what you had before ... well doing it this way saves you the headache of about 22 hours , my system is comprised of 10 hard drives and to get them set up takes me almost a week of straight through time to get my system where i need it using the above programs i can do it in about 4-6 hours and any regular pc normally is done in about 2 hours , this includes all pc updates, game downloads, drivers, patches and its a 100% virus free/ 100% malware free

Panda Security software info:

now thats technically one prorgam that you have added to your pc : and it is a non intrusive architecture to any Windows platform

Nortons takes all of your programs and scatters them across all disks so your computer takes longer to find files

McCaffe packets your information within more packets so you wind up with the same issue of your pc taking longer

CCleaner is fine as its aimed primarily at your Cookies

BUT

REGcleaner and REGedit are 2 programs that if you are not informed on or know about can and more then likely will kill any pc if used by someone that isn't trained in their usage: AS THEY DEAL WITH THE CORE ARCHITECTURE OF YOUR PC AND ARE A DIRECT LINK BETWEEN YOUR KEYBOARD AND THE MASTER FILE TABLES FOR ALL YOUR PC PROGRAMS....IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING IN THERE, THEN DONT GO IN THERE.

THE BEST WAY TO DESCRIBE THE WARNING ON THIS IS LIKE this:
