oblivion crime system question

ive been working on modding oblivion for quite a while but never sat down and just played it, so i havent been through the story in about 5 years. started a new charachter, did one aeylid ruin and as far as the main story to get the septim guy to the temple, then fast traveled to anvil. i had killed 3 people along the way, one being in the aeylid ruins and 2 in oblivion realms, so no witnesses but the guards immediatly slammed me with a 7800g fine, first time to anvil btw. my question is this how oblivions crime system actually works? i was under the assumption it was like all of bethesdas other games, no witnesses no crime. because if its not supposed to funtion like this i need to start going through plugins, i cant take that kind of bounty every time i need to visit town.

To my knowledge your crime must be witnessed to be counted (I have found companions CAN count to that... damn traitors).


 


Do you use Player Slave Encounters? I amended the fine level in that (which would explain a high bounty) but it still uses the base system for being caught (IE Someone has to see you). There is the chance of a set up adding to your bounty but that is not the case here.

yea i have pse, but generally i lower your bounty costs when im starting out. can cm partners cause a bounty for you even if you have yet to recruit them? because if they are roughing up towns i havent been to that might be the issue, if not i guess i have to start looking at things.

I use the MCS Companions and in that the companions get the bounty not you. Not sure if CM works the same but I would imagine so. It would be damn harsh to stick that on the player considering NPC inability to hit a barn at three paces. :)


 


*edit: Unless you changed that too, your fine could have built up over a period of time as PSE sets the arrest on sight to a higher level.

i dont know, i just checked my game settings section in the tes4edit, and everything crime related is being controlled by oblivions standard settings, i just find it strange that my very first trip to  anvil after saving kvatch, only friendly kills being in oblivion and a ruin, no witnesses, i got sacked for 7800g. might have to go over my plugins one at a time to see if they are making something im doing illegal.

i give up, absolutely no new illegal activities are added by mods except death related ones, im just going to write this one off as anvil being racist and hope it was a one time freak thing.

Had exactly the same situation on a test save, killed 2-3 bandits max absolutely no crime commited, guards were hunting me for 7000+ septims fine.


Ended up reloading save.


 


Funny thing is, on an other save i killed 2 guards, ended up with 40 septims fine O...O
