What means "Vanilla"?

I read about Vanilla Oblivion and Vanilla races and don't know what's ment. Please help me!

the term "vanilla" means, any part of Oblivion that is only what comes out of the box, and is the official game not modded at all. So Vanilla Oblivion has no mods, no added clothing, no added textures, no added changes etc. Does that help any?

One should note that this actually is the definition of vanilla with regards to any game.

The term probably comes from food (what else?), perhaps yogurt or ice, where vanilla is the most "basic" flavor. Once you add stuff, it won't be vanilla anymore.
