Emily

PC turn off itself when running certain game.

This might sound weird. But when emily play a certain big fish game called "haunted hall: revenge of dr.blackmoore".

The pc turn itself off, Emily was certain this is not about pc temperature and overheat Nor hardware failure.

Of course the best solution is to avoid running that game. But emily never figure it out what cause the involuntray power off.

Anyone ever having the same problem to define this?

If Emily is sure there is no hardware issues then it must be the game (Is Emily also sure that there are no issues with drivers for that hard ware as well. Graphic, sound drivers have been known to be a pain in the a**. causing all types of problems and sometimes only with a particular software. I haven't had a computer turn off personally but have heard of issues however it usually end up in a Blue Screen of Death.

Can Emily try the game on another computer? Maybe it don't like some programs running on Emily's current computer. It is just an idea for Emily.

type event viewer in the start menu and check the error/critical logs there.

Isn't that a power supply issue? The graphics card is taking up so much power that the power supply can't keep up and the system shuts down.

Did you install anything new recently? If not, I'd check the power supply.

Can I say power supply anymore?

Now that you mention it.

It could be some visual run time error on one of the game sfx or image format.

The game should crash but it killing the desktop psu like a frog on a frying pan. It's not even 3D. Some visual or audio asset on their binary probably did cause a powerspike.

Good point FatKyubey....

Power supply also degrade in heat and age. How old is Emily's power supply. ?  How hot is it where Emily keeps the computer?

Yes you could use a tester however that only shows that the voltage is correct it doesn't show the drain on the Power Supply. However it might be more prudent for Emily to test other alternatives until those have been exhausted. Then Emily can  try the power supply and see if it is the issue.

If Emily decides to try to see if the Power Supply is the issue I would advise a place that has 100% return policy. It would such if Emily got stuck with a Power Supply and didn't need it.

Let's see.

Like 3 years old?

The pc was build before new vegas.

Should emily buy a new psu?

No. Emily should try to figure out if there is some software conflict or other issues before trying a new Power Supply. That is unless Emily wants to... :P

My power supply is more that 5 years old. They usually last quite a long time if they are of decent quality and slightly over powered. I was told by a very knowledgeable electrician as time goes by the circuitry on power supply's like transformers degrade and the wattage/amperage tolerance lowers. Heat also plays a role in lower capacity. It is a very small drop each year. To a point that it might take 7 or more years before the draw is noticeably lower than spec.

Solved.

Remove the processor and clean it(radiator), change the thermal paste (if you know how of course).

I had this happen before when I installed Doom 3. I upgraded my video card and my power supply was low wattage (280 watt when it required like 500 or 550 or something lol), so I wasn't getting the recommended current to the card. Most cards need a +18 amps (on one molex connector) to one card. I didn't know this at the time and got rid of my card (ATI X800XL), but I ended up buying a new power supply and video adapter anyway. I think there are programs you can get that monitor the power/current use; try not to exceed 75% the recommended current load; any spike or dip will cause the PSU to shutdown to prevent damage to your other hardware. Yellow/Black wire pair is +/-12 V. You could also try running that program through an emulator or on a virtual machine if you don't want to go and replace hardware.

Also I hope you aren't one of those people who has like 20 fans, and a million LEDs all over your computer; if that's what you are running then you probably deserve what is happening to you right now lol.

PC turning it self off is the motherboard safety kicking in or else there could be burning components. If it is only happening when playing games try downloading those temperature visualization. Witch you can keep tabs of how hot your pc is.

What TDA says is probably the only way to fix overheating issues is renew your thermal paste if you know how. Also check how hot your CPU is not only the GPU Also if your PSU is old then that could be the reason why your pc is switching itself off.

btw dust can also cause this overheating since it is preventing the fans to work at full speed.

Sounds fishy to me, if Emily can run FNV without problem and big fish game is turning Emily's computer off thats a very weird issue.

The game Emily told us about is a 2D game with noting intensive on the GPU so it should not use extra power from the supposedly damaged PSU.

If Emily is not experiencing any issues like this on other games (especially 3D games) then the game itself may be corrupted, containing a virus or malware or anything else software related.

Here is a screenshot of the said game : http://www.bdstudiogames.com/images/ss/haunted-halls-revenge-of-doctor-blackmore-collector-s-edition-ss2_b-pc-18800-en.jpg

It has a run time error when playing one of the.. (Not sure if it was a flash) visual data on the binary.

The pc always turn itself off on the kangoro with newspaper scene.

So this is a software error after all.

Emily should try to get support from where she purchased the game or purchase a different version.
