[GUIDE] Installing android apps to your phone using a computer

This is a guide for installing apps to your android phone if you are having issues downloading them directly to it. It is completely safe and secure.

What you will need:

  • Android Phone with a SD card installed.
  • Computer
  • Google Chrome (No other browser is supposed)
  • Google Account
  • APK Downloader
  • A USB cable which can connect your phone to your computer (Most phones come with one of these in the box)

Benefits:

  • Allows you to install apps which give you the 498 error when trying to download them directly from the Google Play Store.

Instructions:

1. Download and install Google Chrome.

2. Download and install the Google Chrome extension APK Downloader.

  • After downloading the extension move it to the desktop.
  • Open the extensions menu in Google Chrome by going to menu > Tool > Extensions.
  • Drag and drop the extension file for APK Downloader into the extensions window.

3. Select "options" under the APK Downloader extension. You will need to enter your Google account name, your password for your Google account and your android phone's device ID which you can get by doing the following and hit "save".

  • Open the dialer on your android phone.
  • Dial *#*#8255#*#* , this is a command which allows you to view the internal works of your phone. You DON'T get charged for this.
  • You should now be in a menu
  • Find your device ID which should be something like android-16 random characters and digits

Note: All this information is sent to the store when using the store app

4. Go to the Google Play Store and find a app you want to download.

5. Open the app page.

6. In the top right of the browser you should see an icon for APK Downloader just under the close button. Note you will not see the icon if you are trying to download a paid app which you have not purchased.

7. The APK file should download to your computer just like any normal download.

  • If you get a "400 bad request" error message: You have entered your android ID wrong.
  • If you get a "403 forbidden" error message: You have entered your Google account information wrong.

8. Plug the USB cable into your phone and then into your computer.

9. Enable "Storage transfer" on your phone.

10. Copy the APK file from your computer to your phone's download folder or a folder for download APK files.

11. Turn off "Storage transfer" on your phone.

12. On your phone go to Settings > Applications > Make sure "Unknown Sources" is enabled. You can turn this back off after you have installed the app.

13. Go to where you placed the APK file on your phone and select it.

13. Select "Package Installer", the "Verify and Install" options won't work as you didn't install it from the Google Play Store. However you will not need to worry about this as you downloaded it from there using the computer :)

14. Wait for the app to install. Note you will just see a green dotted line when it is doing this and it may take some time to finish.

15. The app should now be installed :)
