What would cause 3DS max to export a nif with multiple NiTriShapes?

It's been a while since I messed with 3D modeling. I thought I did everything correctly, exported my mesh, and in nifskope it has multiple NiTriShapes when I think there should only be one. Even in max my mesh has only one element. Any ideas why this would happen? All I did was add the UV Unwrap, collapse it, and add the skin modifier, select my mesh->Export Selected.

Not combining all the meshes into one object on export can do that.

But I have only one object, called Box001, and I choose Export Selected so no other object should be included. When I open it in nifskope there are two NiTriShapes: Box001 and Box002. I don't know where Box002 comes from because it is not in my scene and my mesh has only one element. I exported before skinning and unwrapping and this didn't happen.

Try doing it again from the beginning and see what happens, sometimes the tiniest mistake can cause problems.

Assigning a material/texture to the object will override that.

i do not know if it is the same in 3dsmax     but in ' blender '  when i join objects   first i check and delete the second textures color assigned  if there is any   and second i remove all 'vertex dobbles'  (some times you can not do it because of inversed normals for effect)

and third i check in 'export' setting for a line where it is preised to assemble/combine all shapes.

Weird. I guess it had something to do with the texture. I was actually messing with the projection modifier and "render to texture" before this happened. I also noticed in nifskope that Box001 had some texture properties already assigned.

Thanks guys, problem solved.
