Scripting and 3DS max and UV Texturing.

Hey guys,


 


I have a few questions ><.


 


I am working on something and I wanted to get a couple of pointers.


I am looking for tutorials to help with figuring out how to Script for Oblivion.


 


Also (I may have asked before) but what is the BEST way to make UV maps and are there any tutorials then that?


ATM what I do is I Google an Image use blender and then (often times) just use the image as one full part, so if there are designs on it I kind of do a full UV map like say a button on a shirt :(, but many modders (or 3d modeler pro's) often make these elaborate textures, even in some cases to go over a very simple mesh but still looks great. Just wanted to know for good tips on that.


 


Lastly with 3ds max, does it have a way of doing UV maps and texturing itself?


I've never really used it so I am kind of confused there X_X.


 


PS: Sorry for my lack of search button, just I've been checking it on the little free time I have and had not had much luck so hoping the community may point me to a few links that describe these in good (or great if possible) detail.

The best way of uv mapping an object is extremely dependent on its shape and topology, i.e. the approach for a monster for example will be totally different from mapping a sword. Generally speaking, the more organic/irregular the shape of your model, the harder it is to get a good result.
The exact procedures would go beyond the scope of a single post, but yes, Max does have a way of creating these UV maps (as do most other 3d modeling applications), though it is not meant to be used for creating the actual texture maps - for that you'll need a dedicated 2d application like Gimp or Photoshop (there are also 3d painting options, but that's again beyond the scope of this post).

To access Max' uv mapping tools you can either assign a 'UVW Map' modifier to your object (that's the closest you'll get to a 'magic button' option and if it's only a simple primitive object this should do the job), or a 'Unwrap UVW' modifier if it's anything more complicated, but you'll probably need to go over some tutorials first before you get anything remotely useful out of it, so I strongly recommend you do that if you want to explore that area further.
