What new social network... ?????

I use ESET and Malwarebytes in combination. They do cost but they seem to help protect me very well. However if you don't use proxies or other levels of protection there is info that anybody can get. OS and version, IP location and possibly even the company that is supporting it, maybe even your own home ip. Other info can also be given. It is best to avoid areas of the web where you suspect it is unsafe.

Yea, I see. Advice for the future look on the web for some info on the company before giving out your email. Or do as I have done even here. Use a alies name and profile (age, race, birth-date etc) so that when they spam they are spamming an alies, (nothing really).

You should be able to clean up your inbox from the spam you are getting soon enough by setting up the filters however those you know won't be so lucky and they will also have to get filters set up.

Or you could just block the site entirely using the host file.

Someone else must have had your email or it is a common email with numbers at the end. They just created a list of possible emails and sent them out. When they don't return (bounceback) they assume that they are legitimate and start spamming. So if you had a email say Kat@gmail. There is likely a Kat1@gmail, Kat2@gmail, Kat3@gmail etc. Just example. If someone found Kat54@gmail. There is likely 53 other "Kat" gmail being used.

Or some virus or someone else with a virus that has your email. The virus uploaded the emails and Poof, instant spambots. Many other ways.
