Can someone point me a tool for windows 7 ??

I am looking for a tool that disables services temporarily in windows 7, i am not very familiar with windows 7 so i have no idea what i can switch off and what not. When i tried it last time my sound did not even work anymore so i fucked up.

 

I tried game booster but it does not work on my pc. is there any tool i can use that disables services i don't need ?? Windows uses allot of memory already and i try to cut it done so i don't run out when playing skyrim.

There is another one, which I prefer, but I can't remember the name since I only used it once. I am a Linux person, after all.

Have you tried to disable things from the services program? It's in the start menu (search services). That's pretty much all I use for disabling stuff. Though, if you don't recognize a service, google it, or don't mess with it.

Start-computer-rightclick computer-management-services&applications- scroll down to windows search then in dropbox disable search(no harm done believe if disabled).

 

Will help yah speed up your pc.

 

If you have windows7 64bit with enough ram its not realy needed.

 

Right click on desktop and disable aero or other applications you dont realy need during gaming.

 

This also apply to many background protection programs or skype and others disable all will help alot.

I am running W7 in it's maximum performance state (It now looks like old XP ) with as many background programs as possible turned off (I manually disabled them). Now if I try using Razer Game Booster it doesn't actually make a noticeable difference.

 

I only do this because I'm using a lower end laptop that's now a few years old (but running strong, though).

MSConfig is probably the best way to set your system up for a gaming profile, unfortunately Microsoft did not make such a tool, obviously because they would rather you played games on the Xbox. Also right clicking on the actual program, in this case Skyrim.exe and choose compatibility tab, then choose "disable desktop composition", will turn off the Aero desktop for gameplay and resume it when you are done. As stated by gvman3670 you can set your  PC to total performance mode by right clicking on "Computer", then click on "Properties" , on the left hand pane look for "Advanced System settings" , Under the "Performance" box heading click "Settings", place a dot in the option "Adjust for best performance" then reboot your PC. It will make the whole desktop look like Windows XP and it will also turn off features like Show Thumbnail views and such, but does improve overall performance quite well.

Yeah, I would strongly suggest not even LOOKING at CCleaner. It's devil spawn from what I can tell. That and AVG are the nastiest things I've ever tried removing from someone's machine. It's like they're their own viruses. Absolutely horrible trash in my opinion.

 

Once you adjust W7 for absolute max performance and manually shut down most services and programs through MSConfig you can also adjust how much of your memory is allocated to VRAM (which may require using the Google finger to determine the max you can set your system up for). I have mine running at it's absolute max right now. Plus I have two 8gb flash drives attached to use for ReadyBoost (and it does make a difference while gaming).

 

I software OC'd my CPU from 2.19 to 2.53ghz as well (fsb of 800mhz was stock). This made a noticeable difference as well.

 

Even after al this the highest temp I've seen on my laptop was 58* C, and that's well within acceptable levels. This is with no cool pad or anything, but the stand I game on leaves the entire underside of the laptop exposed for unimpeded air flow and it keeps it nice and cool.

msconfig 2nded or 3rded or whatever. This is the official/canonical way to do exactly what you're asking. Temporarily disable/enable services and other bootup stuff. When you've modified your boot this way, you'll be reminded every time you boot up until you set it back to default.

Yup, just hit the Windows start button (in the lower lefthand corner) and type "msconfig" into the search area. It will pop up "msconfig.exe", and you click that and start shutting down unnecessary stuff (services and programs). If you don't want reminded of it every time you reboot there should be an option there to not remind you.

 

And the best part is it's a part of Windows. No extra apps/programs needed.

I just use the W7 funtion (and I think XP had it as well) that automatically dumps the browser cache and cookies every time you close your browser. The downside is having to sign in to every site you go to if you've closed the browser since your last visit, but security is security and I can live with that. I type so fast it's no big time waster anyway!

Obit Razor Boost aka the new Game Booster tool does that. It disables updates and services to up your performance. This is typically used for decent rigs. I don't necessarily need to use the boost myself. However, the option to shut off updates so it doesn't interfere with my windows is nice.

 

The program comes with a built in FPS and even screenshot function that's pretty spiffy too.
