Beautiful People isn't compatible with Nuska's CCO (It's the only reason I'm playing Oblivion again myself) so good move. You can use any hair mod with it as long as you use wrye bash to merge the records but eye mesh changes will give you those weird eyes.

Unnecessary Violence III is cool it does everything that UVII and Deadly reflexes 6 did together. But I had to remove it since It would crash my game during specials when I had Magic overhauls installed. Magic is so bad vanilla that UVIII lost that battle.

Demolish System is cool it has dodges, air combos, and chain spells.

Rush Attack system is awesome but I haven't been able to find a copy of it since I started playing again.

All of tejon's mods are awesome and I recommend any and all of them. http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/users/45898/?

I really like yuravica's stock armors. But YMMV since I seems like everyone playing Oblivion likes jumbo brood mother tits. http://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/users/1090935/?

Do you mean the mod by Saint K? It can be found here on Chakaru's blog. Haven't yet tried it though since I'm more into archery and magic.

I just recently came back to Oblivion after a 3 year break playing other games, and I'm working towards building a relatively stable install again using Wyre Bash.

I'm not that big into adding new locations and quests as those are the mods that tend to cause conflicts.

Essentials: Most of these you can download from Oblivion Nexus or TES Alliance

Unofficial Oblivion Patch + DLC and Shivering Isles (significantly reduces crashes)

Better Cities (cities and districts are more fun to explore)

Unique Landscapes (beautifies the world)

Enhanced Economy (trading has more immersion)

Weather - All Natural (environments are more realistic and atmospheric)

OCOv2 Orsimer Overhaul (the best looking character overhaul mod)

Oblivion XP (classic RPG levelling system that is great in combination with overhaul mods)

FCOM Convergence 1.0 + COBL 1.73 BETA or alternatively Maskars Oblivion Overhaul (both significantly enrich the game)

Less Annoying Magic Experience (because the vanilla magic system is embarrassing)

Supreme Magicka (makes being a mage actually enjoyable)

Robert's Body Replacer (for realistic bodies) or alternatively EVE HGEC Body Replacer (for exaggerated bodies)

Qarls Texture Pack 3 Redimized (optimised version of the most comprehensive texture pack available)

If you start to run the game with lots of mods and experience slow-downs, you might want to look into using Oblivion Stutter Remover to help optimise performance. If you intend to use big texture packs, patching your oblivion.exe to be LargeAddressAware is very important. Using TES4Edit to clean the "dirty edits" in the Oblivion DLC ESP files and also PyFFI'ing your Oblivion meshes is generally recommended.

That should be a good starter. If you're interested in all the texture packs available then I advise you look here

Could anyone tell me where the issues with the eyes are? I'd like to use both of those mods, but the eyes are a bit of a problem. I'm sure it can be fixed with some work in the CS.

I don't use many of the popular and literarily big mods - partially because i'm on a low-end machine, and partially to reduce potential for conflicts/crashes (oblivion is unstable enough already, as it is).

What is "essential" of course (besides of obvious bugfixing or patching broken gamemechanics) is a matter of preferences. I personally am less interested in graphics fluff, items, hardcoded quests and locations - instead i'm mostly interested in gameplay tweaks, and ways to make playing oblivion sandbox style more enjoyable.

This being said, i wouldn't want to play without the following:

- CM Partners without CM Scripting (by me)

- Main Quest Refusal (allows one to completely bypass the main oblivion storyline, once one left the jail and tutorial cave)

- A few mods that add more encounters to the wilderness

- Crowded Cities Improved (No script version). Makes towns more populated.

- SimCamp (tweaked by me). Let's one set up a tent, bedroll and cook food and tea. Sadly not compatible with "See you sleep".

- Modified Bare Neccessities (by me. Minimalist hunger and sleep mod without all the bloat and pain)

- MCS and MCS Extension. It's not exactly an elegant companion management mod in terms of interface, but it's the least buggy and most versatile i know.

- Mounted Steering (Makes horse control more like in Mount and Blade, because seriously, the default oblivion behavior is a joke)

- P1D Keychain (No more inventory clutter of keys)

- Simple HUD Clock (as the name says, a minimalist no bullshit HUD digital time display)

- Map Marker Overhaul and Minimap

- Improved Hotkeys (simple, non-bloated and intuitive way to get more hotkeys. Sadly, it doesn't allow cycling hotkeys, and doesn't display spellname on select - but all the alternative hotkey mods i've seen were too bloated and complicated for my taste)

- MousewheelDisable (stops accidentally going into 3rd person view)

- Stolen Horse Ownership (if you steal a horse, and ride it for a while, it considers you its owner. Does not prevent bounty on you)

- Shadows Horse Wander Fix (the only mod i found that actually stops one's own horse from wandering off)

I'm a bit torn between FCOM Convergence and Maskar's Oblivion Overhaul. MOO is coming along very nicely and seems to have added a lot, it is also nearly conflict free considering how that mod changes things.

Has anyone used any recent version of MOO and could recommend an option?

Has anyone used any recent version of MOO and could recommend an option?

MOO is great... assuming you don't mind leveling up lockpicking to avoid dying when you find a chest with a lock on it.  And Mages?  Us Mages who can just cast an unlock spell and be done with it?  We get 'sploded if the chest has a trap, even AFTER we unlocked it.

But I'm just getting back into Oblivion myself, so MOO might be less painful for Mages now.

As for my personal "Must Haves", last Oblivion install that counted at ~230 mods, not including merged ones.

However, a few takeaways...

  • MOO is a good overhaul that is pretty much conflict free

I use FRANS myself, and MMM, but OOO and FCOM aren't my cup of tea since they are massive overhauls

LAME and RBP make my game better(plus are needed for Integration).  Recent updates to OBSE means that mods can be made that defeat the need for me to use SM to get my Spell Sneak Attacks, a welcome change

OBME allows for some sweet magic additions, but not a lot of mods use it and stick with scripted effects, which is a pitty

A Champions Death is my death handler, easy to use, easy to configure, works 24/7 and has only fucked up twice for me
