Making custom armor meshes

Hi. I'm trying to transfer armors from another game into Oblivion like some of the other mods out there, but I can't seem to get it to work properly, and I can't find a proper tutorial for the program I'm using. (Gmax)

So far I've imported the base skeleton.nif, and modified the armor mesh to fit the skeleton, then I get really confused afterwards when it comes to the bones :/
