I need some exciting gameplay mod recommendations

I've been playing Skyrim since release, but I only cared about making characters so I never started the main quest or any of the side quests. I even skipped the tutorial by coc command right after the guy cut the ropes. I have all the official dlc thanks to the Steam December sale!.

I am looking for solid combat, AI enhancements (creature etc.), leveling, perk and realism mods that is still alive and being updated. Looking for mods that make Skyrim a lot less arcade beat-em-up feel. Mods that makes Skyrim feel alive and challenging. I'm more of a sneaky type of player or 1hand magic+sword.

I have a very weak pc (core 2 duo, gtx 650, 4gb ram) so I hope nothing that adds too much strain. I am using a custom race if that makes a difference.

Thank you!

Requiem + Duel seems like a good combo for me.

I use Skyrim Redone + Enemy AI Overhaul + Deadly Dragons + Populated (forts, towers, places and dungeons, caves, ruins) + Dragon combat overhaul. for my combat mods.

All on expert difficulty of course :)

Makes for a hell of a starting and you gotta be careful since it's either kill or be killed.

Enemy AI Overhaul and the "Populated" series seem to add plenty of life....and death....for me. If you are into realistic, immersive survival then Frostfall may be your thing?

Well I currently use SkyRe too.

SkyRe, WTF, several spells mods + ASIS, many armor/weapon mods + Lootification, for the npc's to have many new spells and gear. And other mods that adds more spawns too. And Duel Combat Realism on top.

I added one called "Immersive Loot" and I really like that. After as much as I've played the game I can finally, FINALLY, find some all new stuff for a change. Even dragon eggs.

I'm slowly checking all the recommendations here. Populated, duel combat, deadly dragons, frostfall, Enemy AI Overhaul.

I'm not sure about Skyre and Requim because they are huge overhaul mods that might have a lot of conflicts down the road which I do not really want to worry about, but if i cant find anything else then I'll take of of them. Populated feels like it will slow my pc down, but I am very interested in it because it fixes some of the issues I have with this game.

EDIT: Going to check Immersive Loot too.

SkyRE is pretty good in terms of it's compatibility. I mean my load order has 160+ mods and it plays fine.

ReProccer + Balbor's ReProccer XML helps for your custom armors to get them to SkyRE standards.

I simply merge all my armors and weapon mods together. I have like 50+ custom armors and weapons merged through Merge Plugins in TES5edit. I just delete the lame pop ups, NPCs, and fluff like that to get rid of junk so I only get the armor.

It's not something related to combat, but I highly recommend Fantasy Soundtrack Project Replacer Edition. I just love playing through Skyrim listening to those amazing soundtracks.

Just load the plugins for it last since it tends to do weird things if you load it first, soundtracks don't play, etc.

I'd also recommend these mods as well.

Skyrim Coin Replacer Redux

Touring Carriages(along with SOS fix mod)

Achieve That

Trade Routes

Audio Overhual for Skyrim (along with patches)

Immersive Sounds (weapons/magic/aural assortment) Sounds so much better.

SkyRe is virtually compatible with any mod (including all the Sexlab stuff here, if you're interested). If any mod changes anything that may be incompatible with SkyRe, probably the author would tell since SkyRe is just the main standar overhaul. Also, Reproccer makes it pretty much a must have, adding many armors/weapon mods into coherency with perks and ingame ballance.

Also Lootification is great, it adds all your armors/weapons mod into the leveled list in a consequent way, so they will live inside the random chests and enemie will have by default some armors and weapons added by mods. And also ASIS does the same, but with the spells added by mods. Apocalypse Spell Package is one of the bests I think.

I was hoping that by making this thread I will be able to play quickly, but with so many recommendations then it'll take me a day or two to figure things out. I need to check each one of the mods to see if it will slow my pc down too.

@LaEspada, I'm very interested in music and sfx overhauls because the default stuff burned out on me a long time ago.

@judge0, That combination adds a ton of npcs so I need to check what I really need.

I definitely saw a lot of new stuff in this thread. I'm so outdated on these kind of things.

I am on a low end PC (laptop even) and the Populated series doesn't have much, if any, effect on it. It doesn't add any scripts at all so it's just rendering you have to worry about. And since they add no scripts they're all compatible with anything else you could add.

I absolutely love the Achieve That mod. Lot of extras without being overpowered. As for recommended mods, I'd suggest Mighty Magick. Lot of changes like getting rid of the 0% magicka cost enchanting exploit. Twin Souls is split into 2 seperate perks and the number of atranochs/daedra and undead is increased to 5 instead of just 2. Try running around 5 Dremora Lord's and see how much you can kill in a single fight lol.

Your computer is very close to mine, and I also try to play pretty immersively. As such, I'm assuming that the things I'm running would work well for you, so here are my personal recommendations. :)

Gameplay-wise, Duel Combat Realism v7 is a must for me. It makes combat so much more satisfying overall than vanilla, and doesn't have a major performance cost. You can add Locational Damage to it, too, which makes it more realistic (and waaay harder), but you'll see more performance issues -- that's up to you. In addition to Duel, I also use Arrows and Bolts Tweaks for increased arrow speed and damage -- which makes archers far more dangerous than they are normally (and, of course, makes me more dangerous, considering I love using bows :D). Apocalypse Spell Package also comes highly recommended, and makes magic a lot more interesting to me.

For more immersion (or "realism"), I also have to highly recommend Immersive Patrols, because that mod is just awesome and doesn't use any scripts at all. Touring Carriages with the SOS compatibility patch is also awesome for immersion and I can't recommend it more highly. Immersive Settlements breathes more life into the major cities and such, and blends almost seamlessly into the vanilla game. There are a lot more immersion and graphical mods that I use, but those are definitely the big ones!

On the topic of mods, though, I don't personally recommend Frostfall simply because I was getting a lot of script lag from it whenever I was in an exterior cell, which caused my game to suddenly start lagging pretty heavily every few seconds. It was like watching the game in slow-motion for a second or two, then going back to regular speed for about five seconds -- then rinse and repeat. That problem even happened when the only script-heavy mod activated was Frostfall (since I was trying to debug where that issue was coming from), so I simply stopped using it. As an alternative for immersion's sake, I started using Wet and Cold so NPCs would start covering up in blizzards and storms. There's no real gameplay effect there -- it's mostly visual -- but it's really nice to see NPCs don hoods and cloaks when the rain starts up. :)

Hmm... I also just noticed that you said you enjoy creating characters, then coc out of Helgen, which means I have to mention Alternate Start. If you aren't using it yet, you really should. Like now. :)

Good luck with the mod hunting!

Edit: Oh, and if you play a stealth character, Stealth Skills Rebalanced is a must in my opinion. :)
