Hello Loverslab,

 

I think it is time I retired my old LGA775 socket mobo (ASUS P5K) crossfire and Core 2 Duo 3.ghz, 4gb ddr2 memory. Overall Windows 7 score of 5.9

 

I have decided to keep my ATI Radeon HD6670 2gb GFX Card, but decided to purchase these 3 items to replace my older parts.

Now I only have £250 available to spend so decided on the 3 parts, please take a look and let me know if they are any good in your eyes,

Being on low budget when trying to build a decent gaming PC really sucks...I know that all too well.   For the price I'd say not bad...

Mobo looks like Gigabyte's answer to ASUS' Sabertooth series...which are extra durable. Good thing is LGA1150 should support both Haswell and Broadwell..good potential for future upgrade.

Also like that the mobo is crossfired ready so that is also a nice touch..

For build advice and a great userbase very familiar with putting things together, I would recommend:

 

Tom's Hardware

 

It was from them that I gathered a great deal of information, reviews, suggestions, and a ton of help in building my own pc. Put a build together, post it up, and check with them to see if you have a good thing going, or what is happening where.

 

You probably already know this, but in addition to the components you already have listed, you will need a graphics card, power supply, cooling system, input options, chasis, and a small number of other things which the hardware people there can help you out with, with some pretty decent suggestions on what to get for your price range. It is also *CRITICAL* that you make sure all the components you purchase will be compatible with each other.

 

The pc I built up using their help is grand, and lots of Kudo's to you for building your own.

 

I would also suggest making sure that you shop around for your prices. Amazon is great, but may not always be the best. Newegg has pretty much every component you could dream up, though prices can be a bit steep, though they do come with warranty options.

 

I'm also not sure how well versed you are in doing this, but Newegg put up some videos on youtube for general assembly instructions. Link here.

Personally I've always been an AMD user; good market, relatively cheap parts and runs well.  Lately the I5 and I7 Core's have been outpacing even the AMD 8350 FX but if you're on a tight budget AMD is the way to go.  I would suggest picking up the ASUS Sabertooth x79 which has two variants for both Intel and AMD.  Corsair is the best RAM out there and are usually fitted with aluminum/copper heat sinks which makes them optimal if you want good cooling.  I HIGHLY recommend either the Radeon 7970 HD or AMD's new R9 series.  It isn't a GeForce Titan but for those really not looking into blowing $500 plus for a graphics card Radeon is the best.  Not everything is perfect on Radeon's though; they tend to be finicky when trying to Crossfire and this where the GeForce cards usually shine.

8gb of memory is becoming a necessity when modding Skyrim. Even a couple 4gb sticks of Kingston value memory serves well if you're not planning to overclock memory.

If you can't swing an i5 then maybe think about going AMD and get an FX 8320 but I can't see spending good money on a Dual core processor.

Why not save up another 30 or maybe 50 and upgrade to the quad core i5? It shows as a package deal for the mobo, memory and cpu all for 280.69. I don't think you are doing much justice to that mobo with a dual core processor. I'd save up and get the best 4th gen for that board possible. And as previously mentioned a good PSU is important. I think you can stretch far further with another fifty euro.

OK So I have finally done it, total new build and here we go.

 

 

 

1st Pic specs are, X-Strike case, intel i5 4670 CPU, ATI RADEON HD6670 2gb DDR2 GFX, 750 watt PSU, 16gb Corsair Vengance Memory, 2TB WD Sata 3 HDD and a GIGABYTE H87-HD3 Mobo PCI-express 3, crossfire enabled. I have a new ATI RADEON R7 2gb GDDR5 on its way

By default I've always been an AMD fan personally.  Seeing you've already built the rig though I might suggest picking up a GeForce Titan if you got the funds.  You're running an intel mobo and I'm sorry to say Intel doesn't cooperate very well with Radeons.  It'll work but you'll have bottle-neck issues, FPS loss and the occasional blue screen of death when the mobo goes, "but I hate ATI!!!"

 

If you're on a tight budget I would suggest EVGA SuperClocked GTX 760

For those who can't look at it;

CPU; AMD Fx-8320 - 8-core CPU. This is a decent CPU. You could argue Intel is better, but honestly I've seen charts benchmarking around the internet, and videos on youtube. AMD is fine this generation, and I am on a budget.

Mobo; Asus M5A97 LE R2.0 ATX AM3+. It works with my selected CPU, and it's fairly cheap. Asus has a good track record too.

RAM; G.Skill Sniper (series) 8gb (2x4) DDR3-1333 mhz. This isn't too bad. I've seen plenty enough to argue what's good/bad. I know Corsair, and G.skill series are good. I have no idea about Kingston.

Western Digital Caviar Blue 3.5" 1 TB hard drive. This one is good. Strikes a balance with that color, while still holding all I throw at it, and it should last me 2+ years.

Asus Radeon r9 270 2GB video card. GPU benchmarking puts this as a good card for my dollar. http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html

It works without being over $250. I do plan toupgrade when possible.

Termaltake VL80001WZZ ATX Mid-tower Case. I don't know much for Thermaltake, though this case looks decent. It should work, and have airflow. If not, I have another case at $54. Cases aren't too expensive.

Seasonic S12II 520W 80+ bronze certifited ATX power supply. I can change this to 620w if I need to. Ive seen a few videos of overclocking, crossfiring the GPU, and a few extra fans -- Only used 430 watts. I should be good.

I'm Canadian, prices go up, prices go down. This June prices may drop on some of the parts I have. I plan to build it by then, once I can afford it right away. Hopefully it's good, any tips on what's-what.

For xfire you can't mix the 2 brands you need 2 AMD cards for xfire to work or you waste your money.
