The Mad God

Lord of the Rings: Shadow of Mordor... AC with a LotR Paintjob?

Just recently discovered this game that's in the works and I decided to make a thread about it. Here's the demo:

And holy shit is that narrator annoying!

Here are my thoughts:

Now obviously there is a definite inspiration from Assassin's Creed, what with the "plat-forming" and wall climbing. The combat is similar to AC and Batman: Arkham City as well. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, only it looks somewhat unoriginal. And then there's the "nemesis system". And while I like the idea of it, I have a feeling that it'll become gimmicky after some time. I'm not sure. Also, the game looks alright aesthetically.

It's safe to say that I adore the universe Tolkien created. I think it's great to see a game where we aren't exactly reliving the War of the Ring, but I have a few problems. First, "Talion" looks too much like Aragorn from the films. I know that Talion is supposed to be a member of the Dunedain and a ranger, but come on! From the black, long hair, to the facial hair, to the outfit... I know it's minor but... ah well. Second, Talion is a wraith. Um, okay. I mean I get that there were more than 9 wraiths but, I really don't know how they're going to explain this. Well at least it gives us a convenient explanation to have eagle vision!

So far, I have mixed feelings for this game. Since it is set in Arda, I have more interest in it than most other games, but they still have some convincing to do.

So, any thoughts? Discuss, share, etc!

I like what I see in the video. There are some things in there that run counter to the canon (I'm a nut), but if the game delivers on what it promises in the walkthrough I might buy it.

I agree with the wraith thing - I think there is mention of harmless ghosts in the books, but anything called a wraith would definitely be a minion of darkness in the books. Perhaps that is the big twist, I don't know.

Looks good to me.  Personally if I want lore then I will read the books.  Hell the movies didn't even follow the books worth a crap so why should video games.  If they make a good game then let that stand by itself.  It certainly looks like they are off to a good start on things by the video.
