Tell me about ENBs

I've never used an ENB. Pretty low powered machine. :( But I keep reading about ENBoost and that you don't need to turn on the graphical parts and can still use the performance bits, like borderless window, etc.

So is this the case? Could it help gain FPS using it like that? If so, then which files do I download and install? I've been to the ENB site (Boris'), but there are several files there to choose from and after reading what there was to read I'm still not sure which bits I'd need to install ENBoost.

I figured that this is the friendliest Skyrim modding site I've seen yet so I'd ask for some details here. Judging by the screenshots here I know nearly everyone is using an ENB of one sort or another. :P

O.o

I long ago was hesitant to use enb's.

But hell, how can you NOT nowadays, I mean it's got LAA patch and all.

Basically, install ENB from the website. The default settings in no way change/impact your performance on the ENB Graphics side of things. (At least to my knowledge, I may be incorrect on this)

And all you'll want to do is edit the enblocal.ini settings (this is the ENBoost stuff, which contains the LAA patch and other fixes)

Here's some pre-optimized ones by the creator I believe:

They are completely optimized for performance, so you might see a slight degradation in image quality. (If you read up the documentation, you can disable the image impact settings he put on them)

Gotcha'....I think.

So which of the 30 files do I need from the website? For example, do I need the enbinjector_v0004.zip file? Which of the ENB versions do I need (there are several listed)? The ENB does nothing without the presets (or that's how I took what it said on Boris' site)?

it's actually not degrading the image quality as all graphic modifications are disabled in those iNis.
But by now, ENBoost is a bit obsolete as by using this site you can patch the memory settings to match your system yourself and maybe afterwards enable only those graphic enhancements that you want.
i play only with Godrays, using the memory settings suiting for my system. No color correction, no DoF, no SSAO or any other stuff that may interferre with the mods i have installed.

The performance loss is so small, it's not even worth mentioning.
