Simple (hopefully) question about PC's fans

So Ive built this new gaming PC about two weeks ago and one of the fans is very loud.

This PC has 5 fans, 1 in the front, 1 on the top, the powerbox fan, one on the left side, and the cpu fan.

Whic one would be the one that is so loud? Im kind of assuming its the cpu fan since it gets louder when Skyrim has to do more loading, am I right?

Actually probably the loud ones are actually the GPU fans if you have one.

I used to have the same problem with my computer fan being extremely loud and irritating when I would play Skyrim. I used to have a Nivdia 545 and it was really loud.

But ever since I upgrade my GPU to a 660 ti my computer's fan is pretty much silent the entire time no matter how much load Skyrim puts on my computer.

So really, it's the combination of your CPU/GPU.

The powerbox fan never really gets that loud.

Get some programs like GPU-z or RealTemp for CPU so you can see what temp your cpu and gpu is and adjust the fan speed see how temp is when in full stress load and lower fanspeed to your satisfaction and temps are ok.

AMD and Nvidia also have apps where you can adjust your fanspeed.

Ahh I didnt think of the GPU fan, mine is a GTX 770

Actually mine is the power supply fan that makes all the racket.I'm running two gtx 770's and they both have two fans apiece.

Do you have any kind of fan control AI either in the BIOS or in Windows? I'd disable each fan, one at a time and designate which the noisy one is. (Not the CPU fan obviously or GPU, I'd probably just turn them down according to temps. Or it likely could be that the fan is running at max when it does not need to be. Most motherboards have some kind of fan control in the BIOS. There are software programs out there that allow this to be done in windows though, as mentioned above By Eva.

Sometimes the fans that come with build kits can be loud by design. You could attempt a return if you locate the fan. If its the same as several others. Cooler Master fans are inexpensive, up to 120mm or 200mm even for like $15, $20 dollars and run silently. I'd probably just go buy a quieter fan myself. I run Cooler Master throughout my system and my case is also CM.

My case is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119257

The fans I use: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103072

I have 7 Cooler masters  fans in my case(HAFX) all silent.

The 12cm Deepcools I use aren't too noisy, but then I play Skyrim with headphones put on.

For motherboards with AMD processors, there's the Cool 'N Quiet setting in the BIOS, but I turned it off for better cooling power and higher fan RPM (fortunately the CPU fan I use is also a Deepcool and it runs almost quietly).

If you are feeling lucky and fan control doesn't do it you can get the pinout for the fan cut in between the control wire and put in a potentiometer. I tore some nice fans out of a wrecked server but they were uber loud (like someone vacuuming the carpet) and fan control didn't couldn't turn them down enough. If you ever have a problem where the fans don't spin enough and things get hot (some laptops whine up and whine down but stay hot its really annoying), just cut fan control and it will never stop spinning. I never have problems with it because I wear headphones anyway, it can be loud with no fan control but everything stays cool.

Get an EVGA account and download

Precision X and control the fan speed of the GPU yourself....also

if you really want whisper quiet PC even when it's humming  get

Noctua CPU fan cooler very reliable, quiet and long lasting......

you can check many youtube videos on noctua fans even the case

fans are great...been a noctua supporter for many years and I am very happy..

check out my CPU fan configuration...

This is a bit outdated because I actually added a third fan behind that spreader so I have a Noctua

Push push pull configuration for my CPU and its whisper quiet even with 3 fans........

and it now has a GTX 780 and evga precision X controls the fans on a scale.....

Love your hardware, and your computer is pretty "cool" too

As the others have said, it's most likely your GPU fan, you can use EVGA Precision X to set a curve were it would run slower but at increased temps, as a rule of thumb, it's ok to have your GPU be at 80C at full load, these cards are designed for beyond 110C.  So you can have your card run at those temps and have the fans be a bit slower so that it won't sound like a jumbo jet taking off inside your computer tower, lol.

I just added another CPU fan to my Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO where one fan pulls from the front and the others pushes the hot air through the rear and out the case with another fan there and one on top, I will be adding another to the top for better cooling as I can have the fans run at a lower RPM and they would cool better than having fewer fans.   I just bought 2 more ANTEC high speed fans, I use Turtle Beaches for gaming, so even if the fans were loud, I wouldn't hear them because of the gaming headphones I use.
