Virusses spread through site adds ??

One thing i was always worried about. Was how adds loaded on all sites was sometime causing virus to be spread this way.

My question is even with the use of addblock or noscript if the malicious add is blocked from loading can it still do it's thing in the background ??

Nexus lately has been a major source of malicious stuff that i was worried that i needed something more to defend myself from this type of criminal act ??

The problem on the Nexus is with users uploading fake mods filled with viruses. Here in Lovers Lab, we don't seem to have that problem.

As for the ads, I'm pretty sure adblock stops the ad from loading completely. If you are still worried about viruses, there's a few nice free antiviruses and scanners. Try Malwarebyte's Anti Malware. Stay AWAY from AVG though.

Thanks, yes i already use a good virus scanner. But i was worried with even those tools stopping those virus was not enough. Since they could still do stuff in the back ground.

The real thing that got me worried, that even well known sites where being used to spread malicious adds, to steal people Bank ID. And since i got add block + no script has not seen any problem since.

This was not the first time it happened on Nexus it happened more times in the past but after the first time i immediately installed add-block and no script. Too stop these things from happening again after i had too reformat my pc due to this.

Stay AWAY from AVG though.

Why's that?  Is it useless or does it actually have adverse effects?  I ask because I already have Malwarebytes, and I'm looking for an antivirus program to compliment it.

I used the KIS 2012 2 years ago, and from my experience it's worth it, bought it in the local PC store for about 20$ for 1 year license.

If you combine it with malwarebytes, your computer is pretty safe though... I think....

Except if your computer infected with some nasty adware/malware..

Sometimes I used adwcleaner too..

Only when you click there is risk plus good add blocker completely blocks everything so no virus.

And the right Browser like Waterfox WILL PROTECT YOU.

Use waterfox 64bit-ghostery(block everything and i mean EVERYTHING) and startpage(protect your IP nothing can follow you) you don't need virus programs.

TOR project for complete annoymous underground if you wish.

It's practically a virus itself with how it spreads itself all throughout your system. Try removing it some time and you'll see how much of a pain in the ass it is.

I use MS Security Essentials and Malwarebytes. They finally released a new, updated version for MSSE a few weeks ago (maybe a month now).

AVG has always sucked. I don't even like McAfee or Norton.

Malewarebytes is one of the best you'll get. Never read any complaints for anyone about it. MS Essentials is decent. I'll have to check on that update version. But yeah, it's always best to have more than one. Some like MS Essentials doesn't detect everything.

I use...

Malewarebytes

MS Essentials

Advanced System Care v7.2

IObit Maleware Fighter v2.3

all of them are free.

Edit: btw anyone else experiencing 502 error as of right now in the hour?

Yeah, experienced one 502 error earlier. But everything runs fine now.

As for computer protection, this is what I use.

NOD32

Outpost Firewall Pro (with lifetime updates) :D

Spybot: Search and Destroy (free version)

Yeah, I got a couple 502s a while ago. All seems fine now. Maintenance?

Back OT....

I use MSSE as my main AV for real time, but have Malwarebytes here to run a second scan with. That's been working for a few years.

The built-in tracking protection and popup blockers in IE11 have been preventing me from seeing ads all across the webz. I do have this site set as viewable, though.

Looks like it could use a maintenance. It's happened a couple weeks back, but today was the worst.

I've been thinking of switching over to Comodo. I already have Malwarebytes.

Would I download and install the 3 Internet security, antivirus, and firewall? Just going for free version right now, I'll decide later if I want to buy.

This site is not immune! When I tried to log on to the site about an hour ago, a window popped up telling me my browser had been frozen by the FBI for viewing child porn! And the only way to unlock it and avoid prosecution was to send a money order to some scam artist with-in 24 hours. Now I am 100% sure that this came from this site and no where else, since I literally tried logging on here immediately after installing windows 8.1 on a HD that was not even partitioned a few minutes before. So I of course immediately went and installed comodo firewall and firefox with adblock plus.

Sounds like you may already have adware within your PC. In that case it has nothing to do with this or any other site.

Oh no... HE'S INFECTED! RUUUUN!

But seriously you have some awfully mean adware, and I suggest a full deep virus scan while running in Safe Mode.

If all else fails, back up your files and reinstall Windows. I've been there.

The FBI Ransom bug. It's all over the web unfortunately. I've seen several posts mentioning it on this forum and others. Heck, I know people who saw that on a family oriented archery forum.

Yeap sounds like it to me. Run Malwarebytes Anti-Malware best spyware malware remover I have found. Also zone alarm is great you can lock internet access to and from your computer it comes in handy when something is trying to get out so that it can connect to whatever it's trying to connect to and it helps with removing things like that. Lock it down and send in the nukers to wipe them out.

I once had a thing on my computer that once it connected to the internet a pop up would come up saying close everything and save the computer is shutting down it started to piss me off but finally the little bastard gave me enough time to download zone alarm and right after that the pop up appeared. I was like whatever your seconds are numbered now asshole and as soon as my computer comes back up your ass will be gone! I brought the system back up installed zone alarm then hit lock down no more pop up. Then I was like alright you little bastard time to die! I ran malwarebytes found the little bastard and nuked it then unlocked the internet and bye bye little annoying shit and no more pop ups.
