Upgrade time

So about 3 months ago i dripped tinsy itty bitty bit of water on my cpu. And now its getting pretty bad in the crashing / failing department. Still usable but no good for what i need to do. And ive seen some pretty good steals posted here on LL but can't find the threads i read them on nor do i really want to look for them. (No time) So I was looking to spend about $600 usd. or less. Most preferably less, the motherboard would have to fit a 2133 set of ram (if your going to find that for me to). Anyways, thanks for any input, im really looking forward to all the $$ you guys will most likely save me as I tend to just buy the most expensive one. Any money you can save me now will go towards a G card.

(Edit)I already have the tower and all that, I'm just installing a new Mobo and CPU.

Do you want to buy a complete PC tower or do you want to build one yourself?

I'm just changing out the parts that are pretty much broken. So I guess I'm building one myself, but it's not a complete build, really just a fix.

Well, that's what happens when you dealing with shady porn sites

But yeah, what kind of issues do you have? When do your pc crash? Just random or any particular thing you do atm when it crash? etc etc.

If we can break down the things that causes the crashes, maybe we can also save us some trouble, and maybe even just replace the thingy that needs changing.

Unless your are a troublemaker and chaos stuff is your thing.

Well the Cpu is about 4 to 5 years old by now btw. But it initially crashed after the water drops spilled on it, and it will randomly crash when idle, as in im not actively using it. The boot up takes forever, despite a 6g SS. and the cores became quite throttled after the latest crash. A few times in order to get it going again, I needed to disconnect the power connections to the motherboard and reconnect them after a few seconds. So I think that it caused a short, which is obviously bad, but thats just a best guess.

Just about all the motherboards will support any ram. At worst they bottle neck the ram to a lower speed so that is not a huge issue.

So the question is what all parts do you need/want to replace in your computer?

and next question is what all parts do you have and plan to keep? what size is the power supply? how many rams sticks and what sizes? what is your video card? etc.

I have everything, it is still a working computer, and am just intending to invest in a cpu and motherboard initially. And may invest in a new graphics card if I have the money left over. So Basically, im keeping the power supply, heat sink, RAM, dvd drives, hard drives, case, and external inputs. I may need to buy a 2 6 pin to 8 pin converter if i buy a new graphics card though.

Ah in that case I would suggest getting the best Motherboard and CPU you can afford to get and then you can worry about upgrading other stuff later. Though if you go with a very good CPU you will need to add liquid cooler for it.
