I'm using "Better Followers" which I know is old but it seems to do what I want (although it is a bit slow when changing between home and outdoor outfits and I get a lot of ex-followers running around nakie which is worrying)

AFT master race. It just WORKS with most custom followers I've tried, (not tested Cerw yet). But Arissa, Inigo, Vilja all works. Arissa and Inigo you both have to use "Make follower" command on, but after that it's brilliant.

I use UFO but if I remember it was only due to a certain mod requiring it as a pre-requisite. I think I don't even have that original mod installed anymore but too afraid to remove it just in case it is still a dependant for something.
