Wow, that sucks. I used that link a lot.

Well if you really want. I can write a new guide if you want it. Have to reinstall Skyrim again, so let me know if you want it and give me a day or two.

(Uninstalled it a week ago when I got depressed about people not enjoying my Skyrim photos that I was planning to make a story out of.)

The old ctrl+f4 technique is terribly tedious to do.

The current version of Racemenu can allow you to import facegen NIFs -- copy from another mod, then drop them into data\skse\plugins\CharGen. The go to Sculpt and press F9 to import the facegen by selecting what you want to copy and then go.

Let me post a way to see it

Start a new game

Make the looks to import to the NPC

Hit x to export

make the .spf

Quit skyrim

Open CK

Duplicate a preset to the race and gender of the character (It doesn't HAVE to be a preset)

Open the new preset

Import the .spf

Fill in the details you want (Rename it, rename the Skyrim search name maybe)

I place it into the world to check it. I normaly drop the NPC off in breezehome...

Export the face data. CTL F4 from the actor tab on your highlighted NPC

Save the mod!

Close CK (You are done with the CK!)

Swap the racemenu face texture with the one that the CK made. So the Game reads the racemenu texture when looking at the one the CK made.

Use NifMerge, and swap the parts from the dummy NPC with the racemenu ones. Make sure you merge child nodes, and you are replaceing the dummy NIF.

Make sure the dummy NIF which now has the racemenu data in it is the the correct place.

Start Skyrim

Go to the location where you set the NPC you created (or summon it via PLAYER.PLACEATME command) and see if it has a grey face bug. If everything worked it should look like the racemenu version!

Thanks so much for this explanation. This fixed the issue I was having on the follower mod I'm working on.

OK, let me get this straight.

  1. You have an awesome face from a mod
  2. You modified the face to make it more awesome
  3. You then exported the modified face.
  4. You opened the CK and created a NPC
  5. Exported the face in CK
  6. You then tried to use nifmerge using the CK nif and the racemenu nif but something is wrong.

Well I suggest you start over from the CK side and remake the NPC then export the face. Then try again following the steps listed earlier in the thread. I'm going to send you a PM so we don't clutter the thread.

The SPF command only really exports vanilla sliders, as i understand it. You'll still wanna use it since it includes the body weight and such so you know it'll all match up when you import into the CK, but to use the proper edited face you'll need to then export the actor's facegen from the CK, export the edited face from the Racemenu sculpt tab if you haven't already, and use Nifmerge to merge the RM-exported face into the CK-exported face.

See here: http://wiki.nexusmods.com/index.php/Using_a_face_made_with_Chargen_Extension_on_an_NPC_for_Skyrim

It's made for Chargen Extension which is obsolete since RM takes over from it, and it doesn't mention using the SPF command. And the bit about the face texture is inefficient as fuck, you don't need to open the RM-exported texture and save over the CK-exported texture with a program you use a .dds plugin for, that's roundabout and dumb. Just copy the texture file itself and replace the CK-exported one (or actually, by default the Nifmerge will likely set the head to use the RM-exported texture from the get-go so you probably don't even need to do that, but if you intend to release the NPC then you'll wanna make it use the regular facegen path just for the sake of consistency). But other than that, it should get you on track.

Final note, if using the latest stable version of RM, exporting the head will probably cause a CTD. It's known and already fixed in the next version, so either roll back to the previous version for now, or wait until the next version comes out, which should be soon.
