Loverslab Images

Some users, recently have problems with the images here on LL, i count myself among them.

The images seem to re-scale themselves automatically to maximum size, i.e. the resolution they got taken in.

Further, the BBcode seems to eat itself sometimes. Trying to link images via the %7Boption%7D[/ img] code apparently got its own mind and sometimes refuses to work at all.

Is there anything special to this? I havn't seen any feedback from the staff regarding this and only some members experience this.

Same.  All my thumbnail previews are gone.  Chuckle,  maybe they're trying to save bandwidth :D

Both Firefox and Chrome exhibiting same symptoms.  Thought AdBlock or Ghostery may have been causing it.  Disabled both, still no good.  Beats the hell out of me what the cause / reason is outside of a yet to be disclosed back end change.

I'm pretty sure they are aware of it and maybe looking for a solution. It's my 3rd or 4th day with this problem.

I just noticed it today as I have been gone for a week because of work. I checked chrome and I just checked internet explorer and it shows the same thing as chrome does most of the pictures are not appearing correctly.

So, it is not up to the browsers we are using as I thought. I had to stop quoting posts with spoilers that include pictures since it expand the pictures to the original size. Some members have a lot of pictures in spoilers and were angry at me since they have to scroll all the way down to read my post. I thought it was my browser fault (MFF 31).

And what is most strange in all of this, is that most of the time I couldn't delete pictures from spoilers in quoted posts.

At times when I can't add things to a post like links or get things to remove or change when I change or remove them is that after I do what I need done in a post that I am getting ready to post is to copy and paste the whole post into notebook then copy and cut it out of notebook and then overwrite the whole post with the newly copy and cutted one from notebook. Which will fix whatever the hell causes it. It also works well with copy and pasting things as they get that annoying highlighted thing.

I haven't tried posting any of my own images since I noticed the problems, but I see it with everyone else's for the last couple of days or so. Almost every single forum page on the site has screwed up formatting for me due to either un-spoilered images or signature banners showing up much larger than normal. Yours, for example, germanicus, sticks out beyond the width of the posts, so the posts themselves are squashed in rather than filling the screen. Not blaming you, of course! It happens with lots of sigs, and yours is great! ;)

I hope they can fix it soon. It makes browsing the forums a bit annoying. I'm using Waterfox on my PC and an iPad, for what it's worth. No ad blockers or anything like that and both machines/browsers have the same issue.

I just uploaded a couple of images without any issues, at least taht I've noticed.

Mind, the earlier screenshots for QAYL seem to have vanished. The thumbs are still there, but clicking on them gets "no screenshot". Odd.

<!-- Forces resized images to an admin-defined size -->

<style type='text/css'>img.bbc_img{max-width:1920px!important;max-height:1920px!important}</style>

this is in the main page code so this is the instruction all browsers consider for render, all images are forced to that size.

webmaster can solve this removing this line or checking bbc config to see if its ordered form there

The "staff" that could fix the issue is Ashal.  Moderators don't have the options or tools to make changes to the the forum hardware or software.  As it is Ashal pays for the site out of pocket each month, creates\supports Sexlab, moderates AND maintains admin support.  How about we cut him a bit of slack.  Issues that don't involve the site crashing are not going to be mission critical for him to fix.  He has a life and a job that come first.

Ashal will fix things, it will just need to wait until he has the free time to do so.

Understand, but some sort of acknowledgement ( of any kind ) that it is, in fact, an issue and not an undocumented or undisclosed coding change would be appreciated.   Would take all of thirty seconds to say " Yes, I know about it.  I'll fix it when I can, ( or I coded it this way for reason X ) quit bugging me about it. "

( Yes, I've sent a PM to him the day it started.  No I haven't seen a response. )

This way folks know to rewrite their posts / blogs if necessary to a layout sans imagery.

Maybe you could request that people stop attaching BMPs and PNGs to their posts.  If they're going to attach an image in a forum thread maybe they could use a JPG format instead.  You could also request that people resize their images, with a max size of maybe 1600x900.  If people did those two things, they could turn their 3.9MB screehshots into 1.2MB forum friendly images.  Other things like people cropping their images to only show the subject in the screenshot and not the whole screenshot would help too.  I know it doesn't sound like much, but with all of the clicks the 'show your character' threads get, I'm sure it would free up some band width.

I disabled skyrim screenshots. BMP's take up way to much space. I use Fraps (jpg) and they are usually under 600kb. at full 1920 x 1080. I sometimes use camera raw which adds to the size of the file because of effects but when saving in jpg I can lower the save quality to reduce file size without loosing much actual quality and still keep the file size under 600kb +/-.

it's easy enough to do even with paint.

I just use the game engine's printscreen and then edit whatever in GIMP.  Same result I guess.

My suggestions were based on what I think would be the least taxing on the forum.  There really is no point to whopping big BMPs where people have to scroll up or down or left to right to see image on the forum.  Some of the images for Skyrim are so big that only one third of it displays on my screen and when I scroll around the only thing featured is a character.  The rest is just background and really a waste of image space.  I'm beginning to think that some people just don't know how to crop images or convert formats, so they just upload whatever their machine spits out.

Ashal already stated his concerns for the bandwidth of images.  I think as members we should take that into serious consideration and do what we can to help keep the bandwidth sucking to a minimum.  Just my opinion.
