Anyone here know what this problem is?

Sometimes when I play games my audio will make scratching sounds and then go out.
At first I was thinking it was a bug with titanfall but found out that it is happening with a lot my games.

Resident evil 6 max payne 3 and witcher 2 did it so much I had to stop playing them.
Have had the problem ever since I build the computer. My temperatures never get too hot, I trade the motherboard two times, trade the ram and refund the hard drive for a better one and I reinstall my windows 8.1 six times so it cannot be virus.
when I am watching a movie and this happens the media player will give an error and youtube and VLC videos will be 1 frame per second and will stutter.
On somedays if I push record on fraps the audio will go bad immediately. Skype calls make it happen too.

Ohhh dear... Could be a problem with the sound card. If you have integrated sound (Built into motherboard) then buying a cheap sound card could still fix it.

I fancy myself a bit of a PC technician, but I can't make any guarantees on my diagnosis as I have never heard audio do this in my life!

If you're using an older soundcard, it's the audio drivers usually. Either install updated drivers for your card, OR roll back to a previous version. Win 7 and 8 might try to supply the proper drivers upon install/update, but their version might be outdated or faulty. Same if you have onboard audio.

Another problem would be the Power Options in your Control Panel. If its set at Power Saver Mode, it will force your processor to run at about 30% power, which is too low to decode most audio files. Try setting this at High Performance first, then try Balanced if your issues disappear. Your audio card or onboard audio might have the same type of control options, so Best Performance would be better than Best Quality (just like video card options).

All I can think of ATM....not enough coffee yet... :P

Do you have this problem if you are wearing headphones?

If his game recording software is picking it up, then it wouldn't be the headphones. It would be the actual audio output from the PC itself.

I am using the Gigabyte 970A-UD3P motherboard with the newest bios and updates I think.

I will test different options but it may take a while. I will report back here.

Before you go tearing things apart, look for something simple maybe a loose connector?

If you are running wires to your speakers and there is a bad connection, the "arcs" can send pulses back into the sound system making it appear to be sourced in the card.

So in summary, check all wires and connectors first, make sure your sound card is properly seated.   Then if the problem still persists, look at sound card and power supply.

The Gigabyte 970A-UD3P system board has an integrated Via VT2021 chipset. Go to Gigabyte's site for this board http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4717#dl and select drivers from the first drop down and the version of OS you're running from the second. You'll see a list of drivers there. The latest version audio driver for Windows 8.1 (32- and 64-bit) is v11.0300c. If you're running anything older, you might want to download this driver and install it. But note that they want you to flash the BIOS before updating the audio driver. Check your BIOS date (boot up the system and hit the Delete key during POST and you'll get into the BIOS Setup). The BIOS version and date will be on the System tab. The latest BIOS update for this system board is 06 August 2013 (sorry, I don't know what the version is), so it's possible you're running the newest version already.

I updated both bios and audio drivers to the newer versions myself and changed my power plan settings but the problem is still here.

I do not know what else to because I have been looking for a fix for 5 months now. I replace parts, check wires for crossing, moved away wireless devices, tried as many drivers as I could find. Only thing I haven't tried now was put in a sound card. I will try to do that and if it does not work I give up >_>.

Give us an update on the problem, once you try the card idea. If it doesn't work, I will feel terrible for making you spend money on nothing :(
