Anybody know how to fix currupted pictures

The computer hard drive got formated while installing Windows 7. After I got everything setup I used data recovery program to recover the pictures. They all recovered just fine, but some of the larger sized pictures are messed up. The icons on the pictures display the whole picture normally but when I open them, the pictures are distorted and have missing parts. Some of them display half the pictures and the other half is missing. I noticed that the smaller size the picture is, the less distrotion there is. The ones that are around 700 KB or less display just fine, but they are small and I like to use the bigger ones. How do I fix the pictures?
