Reliable way to fix brawling?

Even after having two mods that supposedly fix brawling-related bugs, I still have them. Are there any mods or workarounds that REALLY work?

I have both the Brawl Bugs Patch and SPERG (which lets you toggle manually or automatically brawling mode), but I still seem to get a bug where whoever is brawling with my character simply stops fighting and goes back to normal. More often than not, that causes me to accidentally hit them when they're not hostile, causing a bounty on my head and having to reload a previous save. It does not matter if I manage to finish the brawl (since the bug seems to happen at random times during the brawl - whether at the very beginning or near the end), even if I get my opponent's health to zero and they do the crawling animation, the brawling still does not count and I can't get gold from them, and the brawling option on the dialogue reappers.

I've never had the Brawl Bug Patch fail on me, so I'm pretty confident about it.  However, it does state in the description that it can fail.  The problem however lies not with BBP, but with the mod CAUSING the brawl bug.  The bug is (usually) caused by a cloak spell used by a mod which can be used to simulate many functions.  The mod developer needs to properly set the cloak effect to not cause "damage".  I would suggest taking the time and going through your mods, disabling/removing suspected mods until you find the mod causing the bug, then decide whether the mod is actually useful to you.  If not - kill it.  If you can't live without it, let the mod author know and maybe they can fix it.  Or you could even fix it yourself using the CK to fix the cloak spell effect.  Check this link out: http://www.creationkit.com/Dynamically_Attaching_Scripts .

Unfortunately, there is nothing guaranteed to fix the problem other than mod developers setting things up properly.

Before installing the patch, Uthgerd always wanted to kill me 3 seconds later after starting a brawl.  Haven't had that problem since.

LibertB. - this is the best answer to your problem.

Bumping because this problem seems to be reproducable, but no solution has ever been posted.

It seems that the problem is with the perks that boost in-combat regeneration: Stalwart Defender (Block) for stamina regen, and Resolve and Concentration (Restoration) for magicka regen. I would assume that whatever script adds them to the player when combat starts is registering as the player using magic and thus ending the brawl.

You can get around it by resetting perks before brawling but it's kind of inconvenient. I'd try patching it myself but I'd have to study the internals of SPERG.

I installed SexLab solutions and now I can screw her instead of brawling. Having Bijin Warmaidens installed makes the sex more palatable.

I also have this problem, and SPERG.... My workaround usually is starting the brawling, opening the console, clicking the npc and typing kill. As the NPC is in brawl mode he just goes down on his knees and i win the fight. But this is just a workaround, not a solution.

The Brawl Bugs Patch works for me, it was one of the first things I ever installed and brawls have always worked perfectly.

The Brawl Bugs Patch works for me but I make sure it's last in my load order. Before I did that it didn't work at all.

I use SPERG and never had a problem with brawls (been using the BBP since my first day installing mods.) Then, a little while ago, I started having an issue where every time I started a brawl the NPC would say how I obviously wanted a real fight and out would come the weapons and any local guards would rush in and massacre me. This started happening when Schlongs of Skyrim started including the BBP as a bsa in recent versions. I deleted the SoS bsa but still had the problem. In the end, what fixed it for me was downloading a file that's linked in the comments for the BBP on nexus. I just checked and right now it's the first comment beneath the stickied one from the mod author, by someone called ErshinPL. Installing that file over the original patch has fixed all problems for me.

Since I see Google is listing this page when I did a search for a fix for this same issue, I can confirm that Mord Sif's link above fixed the issue for me as well.
