Hey, this has happened a couple of times in the past 2 months and I am a bit worried about it:

It doesn't happen when the PC is on, per se, but only when it is booting up.

Any help?

Error check your memory and hard drives. If they check out, then defrag your hard drive. If fragmentation is doesn't help, then see if there are any windows updates that you are missing.

If it is happening during boot up then it could be either hardware or software. Worst case if the hardware checks out then you may end up having to reinstall windows (better to format your disk and do a clean install if you have to go to this extreme).

So I am not running the risk of totally destroying my machine and having to start from scratch then? I can live with that for now - just gotten things back to the way they were.

Downloading 10 steam games on a 1mb connection is a horrible way to spend your life!

Thanks for your help :D

No, at the worst case a memory module or hard drive will fail and as long as you are not overclocking things and/or your case is properly getting enough air then there is nothing you can do to prevent it. It is a good idea to blow out your case periodically (do it in the garage or outside as a good deal of dust can sometimes come out depending on conditions/location).

Just keep rolling on.

Post the dump codes from under the main panel, the normal windows BSOD codes are pretty useless for trouble shooting. Top 3 lines under the main box are usually all that's needed to trouble shoot. Or you can post the dumps(Mini021712-01.dmp), and I'll see if I can figure them out.

The dump file(s) can be found under:

windows\minidump

With memory, grab this critter here and toss it on a flash drive, let it run for a bit. (8-10 passes should be enough)

For your HDD, if you can boot up run this:

It'll check for SMART and other drive errors for you. Just don't touch any of the features you don't understand. :) If there's SMART errors post them.

A bad or failing power supply can cause all these problems too. But it can look like other parts are failing or going bad. But it might not show doing normal diagnostics, only under load.

Hi, got that blue screen view tool, but I have no idea what I am either posting or even looking at.

A few odds and ends though from the latest one:

Mini022012-01.dmp

DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

Caused by driver: ntkrnlpa.exe

I'm afraid that this is all foreign to me :(

Driver issue most likely, though might be a corrupt driver issue. Driver power state failure is usually a suspend/restart/reboot error when the PC comes out of hibernate mode and the data is either stored corrupt, or is being read corrupt by something.

Have you updated any video, sound, or other drivers recently?

silk it's hard to help without knowing what hardware is in your box :P especially stuff like video card most nvidia lower end cards are known to suffer from TDR's and or blue chrashes

but it's indeed a power state failure if it isn't a driver issue (it is most likely) then the issue is PSU related which i can't help with untill i know what's in the pc itself

last time I update graphics card drivers was november sometime when Skyrim was released.

Specs for Cyber:

Processor: AMD Phenom II X2 565 Processor

Memory: 4.00 GB

Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 4730

Power supply: modxstream pro 500w

Have an extra power supply to test with? Oddly it's the first thing I usually check since it eliminates most big problems.

to be honest silk that modxtream isn't that great sadly, i've had 2 gamexstream 800w's die on me in the course of a year after that i said f this bullshit and bought the 1200w Corsair AX (only custom one that's not from that oceanic crap company in use by corsair for it's lower end psu's)

what might be the issue is that the amperage on the 12v lines is on the rather low end (watts is usually less important overall (note it's still damn important)) but with higher end vid cards sucking the 12v lines dry that might be your problem when the pc is under full load where the amperage simply doesn't suffice anymore due to degradation over long term usage
