Looking for a video recorder

I'm looking for a video recorder that will not greatly impact my framerate. It should be free to use. Does this exist, or am I fooling myself?

I use FRAPS. It's pretty good and it doesn't negatively hit my framerate any... but your mileage may vary.

The free version does all I need it to do, but you can pay $40 for the full version too.

Umm...FRAPS has one of the most idiotic amounts of framerate hits I have ever seen. On full resolution, you can lose 20+ FPS. Also, the free version only allows upto 30secs of video iirc.

I would recommend Nvidia Shadowplay, if you have a GPU that supports it, or dxtory if you don't. Both have minuscule frame hits, and both are relatively free.

I would highly recommend ShadowPlay by Nvida. the only kicker is that you have to have a GTX 600/660M or higher, but it works very well

I currently use Fraps (full version) and never had any frame rate issues with it.

Haven't tried ShadowPlay yet, but I've heard great things about it. I just dislike the Nvidia Experience program that comes with it. That thing always messes up my settings in my games.

But whichever you use, make sure to pick up Handbrake as well. It will help optimize your videos and make them smaller so you can upload them easier.

I use Shadowplay as well. :) It's a wonderful recorder that has no impact as long as you use it in Manual Mode. I had issues with it in Shadow Mode, it messed with my ENB a lot. But in Manual Mode, recording at 30fps it's smooth as butter and pretty high quality.

I too have been using FRAPS for years, full paid version and rarely have any issues with it, the videos it makes are huge, so using Handbrake to resize them is a very good idea.
