Oblivion Console Problems

Hey guys I've been noticing something that can be really annoying in Oblivion.

You know when I am testing mods I use the console a lot to do stuff but sometimes I can't select an actor or object in console. Like if I click on them in console I won't see "Anvil Guard" or whatever but instead I get the " " " thing or " . ". This happens at random times and it sometimes stops when I restart the game but not always. Does anyone have a clue as to why? I have tried seeing if there is a difference in first or third but there isn't one which confuses me.

Basically, " " " or " . " or any other variations means you're clicking on a static object such as a rock/wall/object.

So that probably means you didn't get the person exactly or you're too far away for the console to detect. And it is possible for the console to be a bit stupid sometimes as I get that but if rarely.
