Tattoo Black Body?

After i got Adobe Photoshop CS5 i took the idea of adding tattos to my character. After 5 hours of saving,internet serach,other methods and guides i finally add tattoos to my character and save them using Paint.NET. Going into the game i found that my character's body are half black and some of the tattoos are not where i put them.

So does anyone know what happend?

Itgun, are you certain that you saved it in the proper dds format and did you archive invalidate?

You might open up the mesh with nifskope to check that the pathing is correct and that the uv maping didn't get screwed up.

I save it in a proper dds format(using Paint.NET) and did a archive invalidate.

I cant find the meshes for the one i use,my character is a Human from Xenius Race

the one i looking might suppose to be a folder name Bodie,same in the textures.

Check this to make absolutely sure that you are saving it correctly:

I might indeed be wrong but I don't think paint.net is capable of doing this.

To check the texture mapping in nifskope just open the base mesh for the body from the oblivion\data\meshes\charaters\_male\ folder (use the upperbody.nif unless you have a seamless fullbody. Once nifskope has it open then click on the body and this should give options below the body in the "Block List or Block Details" box.

Find the NiTexturingProperty and click on the arrow to expand it and look for a flower that should have a patch like: "textures\character\imperial\male\footmale.dds"

NOTE: I just picked a male but the principal is the same for female meshes as well.

Now click on the purple flower and browse to the custom dds texture that you are wanting to use and open that to see how your texture will look.

I did the nifskope and the texture looks ok,no black parts.(just that the tattoos are not there)

Also the reason i save using paint.net is because when saving using photoshop the size of the dds file is 0, just zero.

If photoshop is not saving properly you have a serious issue. You do have the latest dds plugin for photoshop correct?

The tattoos not showing up in nifskope is also a problem and makes me wonder if you are looking at the right dds file.

I am just thinking that paint.net may be the problem if you did the archive invalidation via bsa redirection. I can't think of any other reason for the problem. Course I know only enough to be dangerous about re-texturing :)

If you can't end up figuring it out zip up the dds file and attach it and I can take a look at it. I can't promise that I can fix it and it will have to wait until tomorrow as I am about to fall asleep typing this :P

No worries on annoying me mate :)

The old way of archive invalidating is no longer reliable and can cause all kinds of problems!!! This is why bsa redirection came about. It is a switch that won't be terribly difficult. If you have questions on how to do it just holler. :)

i've found a decent test to see if your textures work. open the nif you are texturing and set the texture as greg said, keep it open and edit the texture.

when you are done save it and click on the nif, it will update showing the new texture.

much less frustrating than starting the game and it takes little time to make work.

i've never heard of it being half black before, could you upload a pic of it?

what are you saving it as? dxt1? dtx3?

I already delete the edit texture and didn't toke a pic of it.

I also save it as DXT1. I gonna try use other race.

Have you check the size of the picture on which you want to put the tattoo?

Not very long ago' date=' when I was modifying some dds files(actually they were the texture of some walls) of a mod,

I found some of the walls was “half-black”, I checked the wrong files and found they all had wrong size, then I fixed them.

What’s more, I remembered that if you didn’t export the finished dds file in the right setting with “generate MIP maps”,

it may also make it half-black, though I am now quite sure of it.

There is a tutorial on moderteam, and it tells people how to put the tattoo on the body ,

it’s here(tutorial thread), but it’s in Chinese and require you to pay the fourm golds:s...

If many people really can’t figure out how to do it, may be I should write a tutorial:huh:?

It was the size of the picture and i didnt use the denerate MIP maps thing.

Right now i using the Diablo Ice Cube race with no problems.
