GECK is suddenly broken!

So this time instead of asking questions about making mods I am asking for help with GECK.

It's broken! It doesn't work anymore! It's  ... dead!

I don't know when I was using it the last time, maybe a moth ago, but everything was OK.

Now I was loading my mod and at a first glance everything seemed fine. Then I was looking in a quest and ...

... all the topics are gone!

Well, they aren't realy gone, but they aren't shown anymore. The left field, where you usualy can choose the topic is completely empty. And the conditions, too.

The last time I had a similiar issue with Geck was with Windows 8.0, as the condition columns where gathered togerther on the left side, but now they have completely disapeared.

Here is a picture:

Of course I have installed GECK and UP again, but that did not help. Has someone a clue what has happend and how to solve the problem ... or are my modding days over?

They currently still sell Windows 7. Might want to get a copy while you can before they discontinue it.. ;). Just saying. You could dual boot

The stuff is still there you just ned to got to the left everytime and drag the columns back across, a pain in the butt, because it was originally broken, thre was a fix when I upgraded to win 8.1 and now they broke it again.

Indeed! They are not gone, they are completely hidden on the left.

As I had such issue the last time (as you sayed: with win 8.0, fixed with 8.1) they were still visible - and only the conditons were affected.

I was thinking about something like that.

Or maybe I should reactivate my old dual-core computer. Still has win xp but it is fast enough for F:NV. And will never have any problems with windows updates ;)

Good choice however I would also have a win 7 ready in case something went bad with the old computer. I believe it would be harder and harder to get compatible (driver ) hardware for xp going forward.

The dual core computer might even be better for working on this. Perhaps if possible even kill the second core in the bios so that it runs as a single core. Some believe that it helps reliability with these games. Now that is provided you have a very good processor speed. Anyway no harm as you can go back and turn it back on again if you don't like the results.

I was thinking of the very same thing. Mostly to play my games as I am not a very big modder   Ok I don't really mod at all.. lol but anyway. having a spare old computer to be able to do stuff on is very good. A simple KVM switch would solve any monitor problems so that you can use your preferred monitor. I tried my laptop but it was too underpowered to be of any true use.

I was going to resurrect my old 775 2.8 gig P4. Get perhaps a referb GTX580 or GTX660ti on the cheap (maybe two) and two WD black 2tb to load my games on (one for primary and one for a backup after everything has been loaded up) get to a friends house where he has  a drive copier (because it would be a bitch of a time to get everything copied as a back up as my games alone can exceed 1 tb just installed before any mods added. (close to 100 games on steam alone not to mention Origin) and that would be my gaming rig as most of my games are old (ME, KTOR etc) and don't really need a power house to play in in some cases actually seem to run better on the older equipment.

So dual boot, Seperate machine etc are all nice solutions to this. I am trending to having a separate system for gaming and perhaps even personal and modding to boot. This way my personal machine can be smaller and better protected (from hacking) while the other machines wouldn't have any sensitive data on it. I could then run a Linux or even BSD on it as well. That would be a good reason to get a new laptop.. FYI i had part of this setup for a few years in the past and it was great (not the BSD system but laptop / desktop) Never had a problem sending emails paying bills and such regardless of gaming or mods or crashing etc. Always had a spare :D

Setting up a small NAS with VMs is a good setup and very inexpensive. Keeps all the games and what is needed for them separate from the main system, this prevents the need to download all your games again, if the OS takes a nose dive. Also VM's take far less resources to run than a full OS, makes games run very speedy. Doing developing of games on a Linux OS with Wine works pretty well too, as an alternative OS that requires very little hardware. If you are going to use XP as a gaming and developing platform, I suggest keeping it off the Internet or put it behind a router where only the essential ports for Steam, Origin, etc. are open and all the rest closed, otherwise the system could easily be compromised and potentially get access to the other machines.
