Let's talk memory. Laptop memory.

I have been thinking, in recent months, that there is something going bad with my memory cards. I have a two GB card and a four GB card. I'm not sure which one is used for gaming, but I have to assume that it would be the bigger one.

Before I reinstalled my OS a few weeks ago, the physical memory usage was hitting 90-100% while running Skyrim. After the reinstallation, it seems to top out at 80%. I'm not sure, but I don't think Skyrim should be hogging that much memory, even if I do have a lot of mods. I mean, four GB? Seriously?

So I came to ask about upgrading the memory, if I can. Can I? I mean, if it fits, should I stick it in? Or is there some crazy limit that will drive me up a wall and end my hopes for fixing this problem?

I thought that, maybe, I could resume work on my projects after the reinstallation and moving Skyrim, MO, and whatnot to a drive that is separate from my OS. Nada. Until I get this figured out, I'm up a creek. Anyone out there want to go canoeing with me? I promise I won't play a banjo and tell you you got a purdy mouth.post-279248-0-33379300-1429759990_thumb.post-279248-0-97004500-1429760003_thumb.

Skyrim devouring 4 GB of RAM (memory module, not memory card, completely different things) when a bunch of mods (depending on what kind of mods, but I guess you've been 'retexturing', 'improving lighting', etc) have been added to it, is fairly normal.

As far as upgrading your RAM goes, that'll depend on your laptop. There is a maximum supported limit for it, and it should be specified in the manual.

However, do you *really* need the RAM? Are you certain it is being completely used up to the point of paging kicking in? You could see about shutting down as many background applications as possible before delving into your modded Skyrim.

Lets start off by getting a little bit more information, first what is the model and make of your laptop? I am seeing in the images what looks like it could be a part number for an HP, but that could be misleading due to the RAM being Samsung, not my first choice for memory. If your total amount of physical RAM is 4GB, then yes you seriously need more. Why? Skyrim will use that much on it's own, so this leaves nothing for the OS. As suggested above, making sure no background applications are running would be a good start, get familiar with the command and application "msconfig". This can be used to stop all background applications from running at start up, a real memory killer for games. Skyrim also needs a 2GB or better video card, to perform "well" at all, sure they state it will run fine on a 1GB card, but that may be under ideal situations and with no mods. Let me know if I can help you further, I design and build systems specifically for high end applications, game development, drafting and design, etc.

This is what I have going on; the Samsung is factory stock, or factory goof, if you will. A recent search on Amazon has yielded hopeful results for replacing the 4GB card, but it looks like the 2GB won't be so easy to upgrade, if it's even possible.

The subscores on the WEI are troubling; the graphics subscores started at 6.4 and retreated to 6.3 after refreshing. That can't be good news if it's only going down.

i do not know for hp  but generaly now days it is better to have same amout of memory in both slots .    i suggest you to go on hp site  and look for hp config of your laptop .

you need to look at the maximum amount of memory you can put in  and there suggestions. as Dasanko  suggested.

i do not think anyway that you will see any difference between  6 or 8gb ( if 8 is your limit ) .  normaly the systeme should not be over 20% , i think you should clean your syteme from background services / like malewares etc... as techiespeek stated.         get malewares software (the free one)  get Ccleaner    (remove the automatic update  and the startup option ).  some antivirus are eating a lot of ressources (check what and or choose a better one ).

did you install any skyrim optimiseur before  : like emb , textures ,skyrim memory etc...
