CTD when crossing a certain line around whiterun

I just "learnt" how to use mod organizer, so i dont wanna install Wyre bash since my mind is pretty blown right now. So as a replacement im gonna use Modwat.ch to show my Mod list if thats okay. if not ill try fix Wyre bash thingy majig

http://modwat.ch/thanhpi#/plugins

okay. so my problem is CTD when i reach a certain point, i recently reinstalled all my mods to skyrim, using MO instead of NMM and been working on it for a few days and got quite the hang of it, the problems im having is CTD around whiterun (i have never been inside yet new playthrough)

FNIS 5.3.1

SKSE 1.9.32.0

SkyProc Patcher for Dual Sheath Redux

I have cleaned with Tes5edit so nothing there.

Thanks :)

If you don't mind I'm going to copy paste a response I made to another poster here - with some minor edits to it to fit this particular post:

I am not familiar with MO, but to get this out of the way we need to go through the usual rigamarole of basic mod trouble shooting. So let's run down the list:

On FNIS: make sure you have the most recent version. Check the nexus and verify you have the newest version (according to my NMM I had the most updated version, but when I check the actual Nexus page, turns out the NMM lied to me)

http://www.nexusmods...im/mods/11811/?

Secondly [this step isn't needed]

Thirdly, run BOSS - and if you don't have BOSS...how have you been playing Skyrim all these years?

https://boss-developers.github.io/

Fourthly (and really should have been first) make sure you have the lastest version of Skyrim

Fifthly, BOSS can typically find errors on it's own. Make sure you got the proper dependancies and Masters installed.

Oh, and don't forget to make sure you have all the Unofficial patches installed:

USKP

http://www.nexusmods.../skyrim/mods/19

UDGP

http://www.nexusmods...yrim/mods/23491

UDBP

http://www.nexusmods...yrim/mods/31083

UHFP

http://www.nexusmods...yrim/mods/25127

UHRP

http://www.nexusmods...yrim/mods/31255

Lastly: The best way, but also the epitome of tedium, would be to disable all mods and turn on ~5 at a time until your game crashes, then turn off mods one at a time until you locate the trouble mod. Also, maybe an artifact of my Oblivion modding days, but I know Oblivion did not like it when you throw 100 new mods at it at once, so, you may find turning a few on at a time will help it handle the new load better.

After running all these steps we can move on with trouble shooting  :)

EDIT:

and relating specific to you, I just noticed the length of your mod list...quite impressive, hahahaha. Maybe it's time to sit down and really contemplate the necessity of some of those mods and maybe clear out a few of them.

Like i said, i just did a full re install of all my mods so this is what i came out with. (had excactly 255 before)

what id like to ask is since i crash when i reach a certain point around Whiterun does that mean one of the corrupt things should somewhat have to do with the area around whiterun or whiterun itself?

edit: why is my reply a part of the quote ,_, man im bad at this

It's hard to say, though chances are it's Whiterun specific.

As I said, make sure you go through all the above steps, and if you have, make sure you do the last step full of tedium. You can either go from top to bottom - which, personally is what I would do - or you could turn on mods most related to Whiterun.

Alternatively, you can go to the other cities and see if any of them have similar issues. While this won't really fix any thing, it might help trouble shoot further. I would recommend walking to a couple of the different cities (not all of them, of course, because that would take forever) to cover as many different world space cells as possible to see if it happens out in the wilds ever.

BUTTTTTTTT, make sure you have used BOSS first: It's a really simple and user friendly program if you haven't used it yet. Nothing complicated like Wrye - which I understand your hesitation on. I have Wrye installed but only for severe trouble shooting and, of course, it's wonderful Bash Patch. I do most of my mod organizing through NMM

EDIT:

Also, as I continue to slowly peruse through your LO, I noticed you are using WATER. I seem to remember this having some bugs and conflict issues. It use to crash my game a lot a long time ago. Whether that has been patched or not, I am unsure of, but I found Realistic Water to be more realiable with almost no difference in detail (in my eyes)

EDIT EVEN MORE:

Actually, I noticed you have both Water and Realistic Water...which, I am curious why that is?

Firstly make sure you have Realistic Water Two, secondly...maybe you should pick between one or the other unless you know some hidden secret about combining the two that I do not know.

YET ANOTHER EDIT:

It's just an edit party on this post....

I also see you use open cities along with mods that also enhance the cities, but, from my quick scanning down the list, I didn't see any compatibility patch for these...

Again, You may want to consider downsizing your mod list. I also noticed you have like 6 followers installed. Don't get me wrong, I love living the life I don't live in reality. Contrary to my lonely existance, I love surrounding myself with likable pretty faces in Skyrim, but, come on, does the tea party really need to be a mobile tea party? But, that's beside the point, I doubt the followers are the problem here.

I would advise reading this off the official Open Cities Nexus page:

Compatibility

Mods which strictly replace vanilla textures or the vanilla meshes are 100% compatible.

Generally speaking, any mod which adds things to the closed cities will be incompatible.

City mods that add some details to the open worldspace will be partially compatible.

The Last Defeat of the Dragon Cult - The mod hasn't been updated since March. It's navmeshes are partially corrupted and must be repaired.

More Dynamic Shadows & Striping Fix - Numerous dirty edits that cause some interiors to cease functioning.

Mods which edit the following scripts will not be compatible unless patched:

QF_DialogueWhiterunArgueScene_00037CC2.psc

Help! I'm experiencing Infinite Load Screens (ILS) and/or Crashes to Desktop (CTD)!!!

In March of 2013, Bethesda released their final patch for Skyrim. Version 1.9.32.0.8. Prior to this, Open Cities Skyrim had little trouble operating in the available memory the game provided.

It has since been found though that Patch 1.9 changed something about the way Skyrim allocates its initial pools of memory, likely due to trying to get the DLC to work on the PS3 and then not bothering to make sure the PC had, you know, PC specific code for that.

The end result is that when traveling, either on foot or by fast travel, it becomes possible for you to run into problems with ILS/CTD issues. This is especially true in Windhelm and almost guaranteed to happen when trying to get back from Solstheim. It's also likely to happen when fast traveling from one city to another, and CTD may result when trying to enter some interiors after you arrive.

Fortunately the community has devised a solution to this problem in the form of a pre-load memory patch. There are several options for these now, but the one I most strongly recommend is shipping as part of SKSE now beginning with SKSE 1.7. In order to configure SKSE 1.7 to resolve this problem, you simply need to make sure your skse.ini file in Data/SKSE contains at least the following lines:

[Memory]
DefaultHeapInitialAllocMB=768
ScrapHeapSizeMB=256

This should resolve the problem on all but the heaviest of load orders. If you still have issues, then you can try either raising the 768 value to 1024, or install ENBoost which will help further reconfigure how RAM is used by the game. There are limits to this, so be careful. Skyrim can only have a maximum of 4GB even on a 64 bit system with boatloads of RAM. Allocate too much to either of the two SKSE settings and you'll be right back where you started with the ILS/CTD problem.

My own load order has 96 active mods, and the SKSE settings alone turned it from totally unstable to fairly rock solid reliable.

from what i know the only mods i have that edit Whiterun is Breezehome fully upgradeable which i have the compatibility patch for and Expanded towns and cities which on its Nexus Page says its compatible with Open cities, is there some mod ive downloaded without knowing it edits Whiterun?

edit: i run the two water mods because Real Vision ENB said something to make youre game look like mine download all these mods! (i think i was supposed to choose between the 2 but i went on a rampage and after downloading all the mods for my ENB i was already up to 80

edit2: also i run loot so i think that counts as running boss?

edit3: have tried disabling open cities, and etac, no change.

This could also happen if your video ram is running out.

On my current GPU (2gb video ram) my Skyrim crashes, on a brand new, clean install...and all I have installed (no mod files or anything, 100% vanilla) is the DLC+HD textures bethesda came with. It mostly crashes when near cities (not just whiterun), and randomly when I'm traveling. It starts getting laggy (I have a 660 GTX and it never ran HD textures very well for Skyrim) and then just crashes. Like I said, 100% vanilla install. Skyrim needs a 4gb video card if you start using higher end textures.

Then again, maybe you have a powerful PC :P But my point of this post was, its not always mod related.

Hmm, yeah, never heard of Loot. Interesting. From it's description, it sounds pretty much exactly like BOSS.

For Realistic Water Two and WATER, I say remove all things WATER related (except WATER plants, that one is fine) and stick with Realistic Water. FIrstly, I couldn't even find WATER n the Nexus any more to see if it mentioned anything about Realistic Water being compatible or not, but secondly, like I said, I think WATER had some bugs that caused a lot of CTDs. This is the first place I would start, removing this mod.

As for Whiterun altering mods; bare in mind, I only skimmed through the list, but the one that did stick out is Immersive Whiterun. Again, I can't find the Nexus page on this. While in a technical sense there is no "incompatibility" between it and Open Cities, it's just that you won't be able to see the changes it makes to Whiterun since they are being made the Whiterun world space which, in your game, you can't access unless you console command yourself to it.

imho, Open Cities lays the ground work for numerous incompatibility issues. While that's not to say you can't have it and have a fully compatible game, I would rather forego the beauty of open cities to reduce the number of possible incompatibilities. But, that's just my opinion. (hopefully next TES game natively has open cities so this won't be a problem)

Per Vendayn

I agree with his statement, though, typically hardware related crashes aren't as consistent as a specific threshold in the game's world space. I assumed, based on the mod number and types of mods installed you had a system to handle what you were doing. Also I sometimes forget about that myself....not to brag about my system hardware....

well thats odd. i do have Immersive whiterun as an esp. but i never recall downloading any mod of the sort. anyways ive tried disabling ETaC and Open cities no change, i run a gtx980 so thats 4gb of vram, and then i have 16gb ddr3 which should be enough i dont know if cpu matters but its i74790-k

edit: says Immersive whiterun is part of ETaC

:/ Hmm, sorry if I'm being a bit daft here, but what is ETaC?

Hardware is definitely not a problem, in fact your machine sounds overkill, hahahaha.

Also, you didn't mention if you disabled WATER....unless that's the ETaC thing. Like I said: WATER should be the first thing you try disabling. Meanwhile, I am running some tests to find the difference between BOSS and LOOT, and it's scary how similar they are...either they are partners, use the same open source code, or someone is stealing something from someone.

EDIT:

LOOT is interesting, but I'm concerned about the way it handles it's Master List. Perhaps it's from my days of modding Oblivion, but I thought when it came to a lot of mods, it was typically handled by category, though I suppose in truth, the LO is about load order priority, so it would make sense to load certain mods first over others, but I thought that REALLY only applied to certain mods, thus why typically there was a section on the ML for just-clothing-mods, and just-weapons-mods, and stuff like that, while looking at the way LOOT has ordered it, the LO seems almost random, as far as I can tell (though, this is based off of roughly 5-10 minutes of using LOOT)

There really isn't much more of a point to this edit other than pointing out the differences. I don't necessarily think your problem lies in the LO - people tend to make the LO out to be a bigger deal than it really is. Don't get me wrong: It is important, just less so than a lot of people like to believe it is.

ETaC is expanded towns and cities, from what i heard LOOT is a newer version and gets updated whilst BOSS was abandoned maybe i got that the wrong way though, anyways as MO can create profiles im creating a second profile and for now what ive come up to is that my game wont get past loading screen unless i run my Climates of tamirel, Supreme, storms, true storms, and Lightning during thunderstorms. im gonna go along the list and find out whats causing the problem, what i want to add though is that i usually do this. but its just such a pain since now i have to load the game aswell, and id say my load times are quite unbearable so ill probably be doing 10 mods at a time.

Ah, see, this is what happens when I don't involve myself much with the community. I didn't realize that BOSS had been abandoned....what a shame. Maybe it's because they stuck with Better Oblivion Sorting Software even after their Oblivion days...though I suppose BSSS isn't quite as eye catching.

If you can't get past a loading screen this is typically a sign of a missing master. Though most of the time it prevents the game from launching at all, I have had times where I was able to load into the game just to have it crash.

This is where Wrye bash typically helps because mods will be highlighted in a red or orange colour if it has a missing master or dependency. As of right now, I'm pretty dead set on the idea your problems are coming from WATER.

The last thing I would say is that make sure when you installed the mods, such as XMPS skeleton or anything else, when going through the installation screen you selected the proper options. While I was just using XMPS as an example, picking the wrong option can cause some pretty gnarly bugs from graphical, to mechanical, to down right CTDs. A lot of the time these things can be found based on missing dependencies or masters, so this might just be something you want to look into.

I wish you the best of luck. I need to sleep though. I'll check back tomorrow, but I have a long drive to make tomorrow and will be out of town most of the day and most of the night.

Im gonna work my way through all mods and see which ones are cuasing troubles. im only through about 20 mods, but so far it seems like UNPB is one of the mods that cause me to crash, only having the top 20 mods active in my priority list UNPB was the problem, but then activating all 230 mods again and disabling UNPB still crash so im gonna keep working through

edit: also my mind is quite blown, wow UNPB making me crash? T.T

edit2: also want to clarify the point im @ is from the starting town coming out of the Starting Cave, i walk towards whiterun following the road, @ the Crossroad i save and run towards whiterun and after this first house 50 meters i crash, without UNPB i can get past that point and i can get to the Aella the huntress fighting the Giant there, havent tried going too far

edit3: the house im talking about is honningbrew meadery

Hmmm, well, I actually do use the UNP body, though I use the standard, Diamonized version, rather than the blessed. This sounds like a major conflict with another mod. If you have other body mods installed, see if activating them (while UNPB is deactivated) will crash the game as well.

So, to me, it sounds like you have multiple errors.

You informing me where you crash, actually reminded me that I saw "Immersive Patrol" I believe the name of the esp was called. Judging by the name, I assume it alters the patrol path of guards - if this is the case, try disabling this and the (probably unrelated) conflicting body mod and see if that works. If that doesn't, I'll go back to what I said before: WATER....along with Immersive Patrol, and the body.

Once you can find what the culprit esp's are, we can then see how to make it compatible (though, needless to say, you may need to remove one or two)

I'm sorry that probably for the greater part of the rest of today I will be not be around to further help you, but I'll be sure to check back once I am home later.
