Since yesterday I have been thinking of buying a game. But I am torn on what I should be buying.

Summer draws near. And it brings with a familiar smell. Reminding me of the old days. Playing Mass Effect. Thing is if I go with this, I'll end up paying something like 17.99 EUR which is converted to like 50 or more liras. I can buy them off of Steam which will be a lot less expensive but that also means no DLC.

I have been watching SorcererDave on Youtube. He started an Oblivion playthrough. Recently, I believe. And I kind of want to get that game, as well. Because a) in the long run, when Skyblivion comes out, I'll have a copy in hand B) it will come with DLC packs which is more playtime for me. Also it costs less than ME.

I cannot buy both because that might set me back a little. So yeah, I don't know what to get.

Oblivion has a great main story, one of the bests DLCs in allgamiong history (shivering isles), a magic sistem thats 100x better than skyrim (seriously skyrim have the worst magical system from all the elder scrolls games that Ive played (I played since morrowind), it has great mecanics for anything else, but holy shit skyrim magic sucks. Also oblivion have tons of mods on nexus and some mods here on LL. The grafics are old but arent ugly and there are severalgraphical and textures mod for it, the only grafical problemwith oblivion is that vanilla npcs and characers faces look like fruits, but theres a amzing mod called oblivion characte overhaul 2 that make their faces look nice. If you decide for oblivion, tell me and Ill give you a list of essential mods for every character and a list for essential mod for specific classes ( if you want to play a mage I can send you the utimate oblivion modlist for ages becausemost of my chacrater were magic users). Also you et to visitplaces the great and proud Orzog (yes, Im a sorcererdavid follower)

Fair warning, Mass Effect 1 can have problems with nvidia graphic cards, so check your hardware for compatibility before purchasing.

Anyway, I personally feel that Oblivion is a very mixed bag, so I'll give my thoughts on it and let you decide if it sounds interesting.

From a gameplay perspective, Oblivion represents the final break from the old model of gameplay established by Arena and Daggerfall and used in Battlespire. Purely chance-based lock-picking was ditched in favor of a mini-game (different from the one used in Fallout3/Skyrim), the experiment of cities being seperate from the surrounding environs (started with Mournhold, back in the Tribunal expansion days) was standardized, and the level design schema that had been prototyped in redguard and Morrowind was perpetuated and refined in Oblivion, with the addition of traps, levers, secret doors, and other sorts of obstacles into every-day, run of the mill dungeons. Oblivion saw a move away from using dice rolls to determine if your character hit the target to relying solely on the movements of the actual characters, and gone were the old days of spell failure. If you liked Skyrim, then you'll recognize that in many ways Oblivion and skyrim are like parent and child, in a way that skyrim and morrowind (or even older TES games) are not.

However, Oblivion still has features that skyrim lacks. Unlike in Skyrim, wearing armor in Oblivion does negatively impact your spell-casting ability, the spell-crafting system is still in place, and certain schools of magic are much more robust in their range of spells (conjuration especially). Oblivion retains the class system of Major and minor skills, as well as the need for optimizing your leveling in order to earn the +5 attribute bonuses. You'll find this to be a substnatial difference from how levelling works in skyrim, so if you're going to be a new player of oblivion (which is how I read your OP), you should probably read a levelling guide. Oblivion also has a very wonky level-scaling system so the level of threat faced by the player tends to stay the same no matter how highly levelled they are. At high levels, enemies like ogres and minotaur lords turn into damage sponges with enormous amounts of HP, and end-game armor becomes so common that you could break your ankle tripping over a pile of daedric or glass armor. ('cause every bandit or marauder has a set) Quest rewards are levelled too, so perversely enough it makes sense to hold off on getting coveted items like daedric artifacts until you've reached the late-twenties in terms of level (get 'em too early and they'll be too weak to be useful in the late-game).

Naturally mods exists to change or rectify problems you might have with the oblivion experience.

You get 1000000% more play time from Oblvion, but Mass Effect has 1000000% better story.

Depends what you want.

Voted ME just because i prefer a game with a better story, but it was kinda obvious that most of the people would suggest/vote Oblivion instead. :x

While Mass Effect 1 is a fantastic game, Mass Effect 2 is a dumbed down, dumb action game where they cut almost everything that was great to aim it more toward the third person cover shooter market and further from the whole RPG market. Plus the story in 2 can be hand waved away as pointless, as virtually nothing knew was learned about anything... outside of how many times you'll want to scream when they've just said suicide mission for the hundredth time.

Oblivion, is a great game, no matter what certain people will say. It's a little bland here and there, sure, but so was Morrowind and everybody busts a nut on that ugly as sin bitch with a combat system that makes me want to murder small puppies and... but I digress. There is a wealth of functions and features that work very well and make the game amazing that Skyrim decided to take an axe to, such as the ability to craft your own spells, have an oxygen meter visible when you dive under water, have a class, have a birth sign from the start of the game, have guilds that feel like you're actually growing into, rather than just being hot shoted to the top. It also features things like liches, gargoyles, daedra, Oblivion, Varla Stones that totally recharge enchanted weapons, a story where you are not the chosen one and that makes you SUPER DUPER SPECIAL. You can say you're dragonborn, but the Amulet says no, so hey, you can still be dragon-kin in your own head, champ.

Oblivion is, dollar for dollar, a better value. Modding is great and vast, and while I love ME1 to death... ME2 drags it into the pit and murders it.

Agreed.  Maybe save a bit more and get both?  They're all good games for different reasons.

Mass Effect, I have a grudge again Bethesda for some "uncertain" reason...

Both are great games and I'm not sure myself.

Keep this in mind though about mass effect; you're only getting mass effect 1 and 2.  What happens when you beat the 2nd one?  By that time you may be pretty immersed and pysched for the game but... you still gotta save up for ME 3 XD  Just a thought cause I know I really enjoyed all the games and having to wait for the releases of the next one to continue the story sucked for me personally.

BUT honestly.  I'm just as divided as you.  So I'll do what I always do in such important decisions... flip a coin.

...Mass effect.  The coin has spoken and thus is my vote!

Oh, I am not worried about it. I already bought ME3 about 3 years ago if I remember. I actually played the entire ME series. But they were pirated and I no longer have them on my system. Seeing I had some money, I said to myself 'Why not buy them?' I bought DA games with the same logic. Got DA for free when it was a give-away (heh heh, suckers), had to pay for DA2 and DAI, though. The only reason I bought DA2 was SilverXXX. If you don't know what I am talking about, search nexus.

Hmm... Maybe I should wait just a little while for a sale. Maybe Lady Luck will smile on me. I am leaning towards Oblivion, though. Gotta be honest.

If that's the case, Oblivion would be the better choice at the moment.  You can always pick up ME1 & 2 later.

I think I'll wait for the time being. Maybe there will be a sale on any of the games and maybe I can get all. You know what they say if you can't decide which of the three girls to sleep with, go for all. :D

That's some fantastical advice, right there.

I only did mass effect 1, and really liked it. But mass effect 1 has a lower life than Oblivion. With all the moddings you can spend hours and hours on oblivion while mass effect once you finished you won't replay it right now....

Mass effect 2 : I only started the game, I saw few mechanics were changed and the start of the story was quite weird ( that's what I felt about it ). Can't really after.

My personal thought is that you should take Oblivion

Mass Effect is, no exaggeration, ABSOLUTELY my favorite game series of all time.  Femshep makes me want to be a better person.

Here is a question: If I buy Mass Effect on Steam, can I add the game to Origin? And will I be able to get their DLCs through Origin regardless of where I bought it? If I can get the DLC like that, then I wouldn't set me back if I buy just Oblivion and ME1. Because ME and DA are the only games I am interested with EA stamped on their names. And the only solitary use I have for Origin, right now, is the DLC for the said games.

Yes, absolutely.  Origin lets you entire the serial code for the games when you download it, so you can just get the ones you got off steam.

The dlcs for ME1 are free and they come with the game so it's not a problem to use the game through steam.  But for ME2 and ME3, it's better to play them through Origin, it does a better job of managing them.

Better to save your money right now, me1 crashes a LOT and a lot more near the end. You can get oblivion game of the year edition and not put up with steam if you don't want to.

It really is just better to save your money right now though. Financials are gonna be really bad later on this year so save now while you can.

I guess it's a pick between Pest and Cholera. ME1 has a superior story while Oblivion has way more stuff in turns of replay capabilities.

Also, I'm pretty certain that OB modding scene is way bigger than ME1. So even if you get bored of OB default stuff, you can add mods to spice up things thus, keep playing as long as you want.

Mass Effect all the way.  Better story, better engine, better graphics.  If you want a big game play experience then ME is the best choice, imo..that no one cares about but me.

If you want a game to occupy your time then pick Oblivion.  If you pick Oblivion be prepared to relive your experiences with Skyrim as far as hunting for mods and installing them, bugs and more bugs, and everything else Bethesda is infamous for.  And you'll hate OB for what it lacks if you're used to more modern games.

Currently, too occupied with Dragon Age: Inquisition since BE came out and the game became moddable again (no more hideous biege PJs  ) I'll save up for the time being because I know with DAI taking up amounts of my time, I know that if I bought them, I'll likely never play them. or hardly play, if at all. Never been a fan of playing multiple games, at the same time.
