Extremely random and unpredictable CTDs

In my Skyrim, its very rare for me to be able to load a gamesave directly into Skyrim. I first have to load a savefile of my character in something like Alternate Start's Abandoned Prison then load into the save or I will CTD. Then when I'm ingame literally and randomly just CTDs without set conditions and I usually get similar stuff in the papyrus logs, but I honestly don't understand any of it. It's becoming so annoying that my average Skyrim playthrough without CTDs is about 5-10 minutes long maximum which is preventing me from enjoying the game. I have even tried deleting all my saves and starting new playthroughs and using TES5Edit to clean my dirty plugins yet nothing seems to be fixed.

Looking through it the main error message is related to estrus

I'd give it a try without that mod loaded (if you need it for the animations for something like estru charus having it installed is enough you don't need it to be activated in the load order) as it occurs an awful lot

 

their is also a lot of missing file stuff at the beginning of your log but they are not mods i'm familiar with

Thanks for looking into it! I'll try right now and see if it will still CTD without Estrus as I just installed it because I thought it was quite funny. I don't actually really need it. Also I noticed that in a lot of my papyrus logs I did have some missing files and I even searched up some of them but a lot of them were stuff barely related to my mods and I always check my mod requirements before I install something so it's weird that I'm seeing this type of stuff but this mod setup dates back to the summer of 2014 (when I got my new PC) so I might have missed up on some.

if the setup and the save is quite old it might be worth downloading Save game script cleaner by Hadoram http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/52363/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D52363%26preview%3D&pUp=1 and seeing if their are any dead scripts floating around (you'd probably benefit from doing it after deactivating estru and loading into a save) that you can remove


 


 


 


While seeming counter productive as well it might be worth trying with logging turned off for a while and seeing how far you can play since the script engine is far more efficent when it is just executing scripts and not waiting for things to be writen to the log as this does slow down its performance by quite a lot

Following your advice, I disabled Estrus and used the save game script cleaner and it CTD'd when loading directly onto an open world save. This was the resulting Papyrus. (It would load and when music would play and it would enter the game world it just CTDs)

Then I tried my casual way of loading my saves so I am able to play.... and same thing. I think there is something predictable though as I'm trying to complete one of my (it's a mod) quests that takes me to a Hagraven Nest outside of Riften and when I pass by a certain area of the road that takes me there it CTDs so it did not make much of a difference.

Then I disabled Papyrus logging to see if that will make a slight difference. It did not.

 

Edit : My CTDs can also include just me starting to go a bit fast with casting spells, sprinting head on, or even quickly opening my items menu to equip some armor. They really are random. Sometimes they include when I enter areas but when I come back later to play again I can actually load into that area next time so I think the problem here is aimed at a script-wise setting.

Yipe, something that is not mentioned too often, but should be is don't script clean in outdoors areas, I normally use breezehome, make a real save then clean the scripts from that save, you might still have to do the load the prison cell then load the main save but it should work.


 


As for esterus there is a new version somewhere around here on ll, that is supposed to have sorted out the script spam, you still need the original mod I think but you do not active the esp, its just for the animations.  Take a look here http://www.loverslab.com/topic/30871-estrus-chaurus/

Had a similar problem yesterday. Fixed by just updating the unoficial patches and waiting 24h. 


For starters just wait 24h in game for all running scripts to settle down. If that doesnt fixe it try updating the patches and waiting.

Just test your game for performance before you start a new game and find the culprit.


 


1.) Are you using Mod Organizer?

1) No, I use NMM as when I tried MO it was a bit too tedious and difficult for me especially when I already have a large mod collection installed and it would have taken a lot of time I don't have to set it up again with MO.

 

2) RaceCompatibility is provided from ECE and I'm close to sure that it's not being overwritten.

 

3) I use the Succubus Race just to see how my different presets look on different custom bodies (I tend to switch bodies and compare a lot so I like having a few custom races.) and rarely use it for gameplay (I have once but that was a long time ago when my mod collection was much smaller and I didn't have CTDs compared to this.)

 

4)I used to use RaceMenu but its much easier for me to work with ECE as they are more preset friendly and I am more familiar with as I like to constantly change my character's appearance. 

 

5)Actually I haven't really though about following S.T.E.P. guides but I will start reading them ASAP since you recommended them.

 

6)To be honest I actually didn't. I just added it into the SKSE.ini file and I will download Shesons Memory Patch as well.

 

I will also try the Skytweak thing later (along with the S.T.E.P. guides) because I am exhausted at the moment but anyway thanks for everyone who gave me advice.

 

On a side note ; I don't know if it's because you guys or some miracle but my average playtime is now almost doubled! Today I played for about 20-30 minutes before I got a CTD (due to opening a journal which is one of the random menu-wise CTDs I get) (also it takes me half a minute to get back in playthrough so if a CTD happens I can get right back on and play as I constantly quicksave) so thanks to all who helped and I appreciate it! I will still take more advice as more people pass by!

it's useless to fix ctd, when you ctd, nothing is write in that log

 

yesterday i had a ctd, a real one (not a ram ctd because bad luck with leveled lists), i can reproduce it

after the gauldur amulet, when i went outside, ctd

when i reload the save and went outside, ctd

when i reload and coc whiterunexterior01, ctd

when and coc qasmoke, coc markarthexterior01, and went back to ctd zone, ctd

when -------------------------------------------------------, did the mine with some forsworn, and went back to ctd zone with another route, ctd

when-------------------------------------------------------, did the mehrune quest near markarth and start the aethernium quest, no problem

and now i am going for the cannibal quest, to see if i still ctd there

 

didn't have any problem there on the other profile, it's probably a broken npc that can spawn now that i am above level 30

that mean i can try getting in the ctd zone from another route to try my luck at getting a spawn without the problem

or come back later with more levels so it can no longer spawn

 

but fixing the problem... that's mission impossible 9

 

that's one of skyrim biggest fail, they forgot the popup saying "skyrim have crash because" when it crash (it may be useless on console, but not on pc)

If you use NMM you will have script problems guaranteed Uninstalling things with NMM is never a for sure thing. I understand it is an undertaking but you'll never have to worry about screwing up your skyrim directory and knowing which files come from what mod.

 

I would still recommend getting rid of it.

 

I don't know if you used the newest version but its changed quite a bit and presets are easy to load

 

yes S.T.E.P even runs you through safe ini tweaks.

 

Yeah no problem  also I am not sure I remember there was something maybe an ini setting to fix menu crashes but I can't seem to find it.

Two things to try : deactivate sexlab theft and seduction, and sexlab nude creatures. Harshest errors come from those, maybe they're not up to date or would enjoy a lower place on the load order. 



And yeah, I've noticed you have Ragdoll And Forces, which means you have a XPMS skeleton ? Is it Groovtama's XPMSE skeleton by any chance ? If you have it, try to check if you installed Extended Monster Skeletons by mistake during the skeleton installation, this one is either 2 fps or a CTD in certain areas.

Sexlab Nude Creatures was kinda taken over by


More Nasty Critters.


 


Never heard of Sexlab theft and Seduction.


 


Here's another thing to consider.


Your Loading an arseton of hair mods, and your probably only using one hair at a time in the game.  My point is hair mods are going to slow you down a lot more than most would think on load times.  Just use one mod.


 


Another thing, you have a shit ton of Plug ins. 


 


Its time to either learn to merge plugs with say TesVedit and this " Xedit "  or just to trim down your load order.


Every plug you add your actually going to have performance issues.


Crazy thing about merging plugs down to one plugin, your performance goes back up.
