Skyrim on Windows 10??

Does anyone know if Skyrim will run on Windows 10? I saw the Final Fantasy demo and hear all the hype about DX12 we won't be lost in the shuffle we will??

From what i hear,any game that can smoothly run on 7,8 and 8.1 should have no problem with 10

Win10 is the 9th version of Windows.

 

The platform is developed for legacy purpose in mind, going back to the earliest version of Windows, you can still run this software. However, for those legacy purposes, the system runs a legacy-check. Windows 95 and 98 were abbreviate as Win9x. While technically not entirely an incompatibility, it could result in unforseen bugs if version 9 of Windows also called up Win9 which is very close to Win9x. Therefore, to reduce the possibility of any sort of errors occuring out of this, Windows jumped to Win10

 

I'm not entirely sure why they didn't name it something like...WinCortana or something silly and similar to when they did "Vista", but regardless, the version number is 10 because compatibility. 

 

To put it short:

Thanks to it being called Win10, you will still be able to play Skyrim.

Windows doesn't have a 'legacy check' -- the typical procedure with software title numbers is to use the same (or similar) designations for all versions of an OS that use the same kernel (for non-programmers: the 'kernel' is the basic 'identity' of the OS, recieving instructions from the CPU on the motherboard and 'translating' them so that the computer can boot properly).

 

Since Windows 95 and 98 shared the same kernel (and were, for all intents and purposes, the same OS), they share similar title numbers; the Windows 10 kernel is a ground-up redesign, and therefore is not part of the Windows 9x 'family'.

I upgraded from 8.1 to 10 a few days ago and I have had no issues. In fact, I dare say it runs better than before; though that could be my imagination...

I hear on steam many upgraded to windows 10 with no problem for Skyrim.

 

Skyrim however will never get DX12.

always just talk to Skyrim, Skyrim, Skyrim, what Is with other games?
with any new operating system there will be problems with older games, this is so and that was so in the past!
I will stay as long in Windows 7 until everything is precisely clarified! because my games have cost money, they were not a free gift from Microsoft.  

 

edit: shit on DX12 until now it needs nobody and it will still take a lot of time until it needs someone.

I am playing Skyrim, Oblivion, FONV, Star Wars Battlefront II, Prince of Persia WW and Halo 2 for Vista and they all work like they did on 7. No reinstalls or anything and, if anything, they all seem to run smoother and faster now.

I'm talking about playing older, as Morrowind, Gothic series, Drakensang series and many more. I had problems in the transposition of Vista to 7,

I had to wait for more updates.

No ENB, just SweetFX. Of course it requires renaming it (I called it "Sweet_FX.dll"). Maybe there's a similar fix for your ENB as well? I think I read something along those lines earlier today.

After fresh install of windows 10, i only had to install directx 10, cause some dll's were missing. Directx install is in skyrim directory (atleast steam version). Performance wise, i didnt saw any difference. Also no problems with ENB.

Performance difference will come when games are DX12.

 

There where some benchmarks few games on GURU3D that showed 1 or 2 fps gain with windows 10 over windows7/8.1 so marginal improvement DX11.

 

New Deus EX will be DX12 coming early 2016 i think also new Tomb Raider.

 

Probably soon new benchmark test coming for DX12 but when i don't know?

So, there is no real reason why Skyrim should crash on win10? Because it crashes for me. I've started a new Mod organizer profile to test if it isn't caused by something else I've could done with my mods and it crashes right after the 2nd window appears. It doesn't start when I launch it directly from steam. Now I'm starting to regret I've updated to win10 so early.

 

 

Edit: I've restarted for the windows update and it works now. Don't know if that's what fixed it, but it works. Now back to installing more mods until the game crashes again.
