Attempting to put together a small mod, stumped

I am trying to take the DMRA Prison Irons mod in the download section and make a little conversion that gives you them instead of the sack cloth clothes when you begin the game in the imperial dungeon.

I've figured out how to make new item entries and change the resources they point to, so changing the wrist irons and creating a new entry for the ankle ones seems easy enough.  But then I run into a problem:

How do I keep the game from giving the player the sack cloth pants and shirt on game start?  I could just delete their entries, but they're used by NPCs and in leveled lists I think.  I'd like to keep them around, just not automatically given to the player...  :'(

Edit:  There's also the issue that the ground nif is purple in game (lack of texture?) but I see nowhere to apply one.  And the menu icons give me an error about having 7 mip maps when I choose them in the CS but they appear to work ingame...

For the menu icon it's simple, it shouldn't have any mipmap, deactivate mipmap generation when you're making dds that will go in the menu.

But with or withoup mipmap it work, just have to get rid of that annoying msg~

If you just want to add the prisons irons you can select "add on start up" or smthing like that in the editor. Maybe deactivating this (if it is) for the sack cloth will prevent them from being added ?
